I've played guitar for over 40 years but several years ago I decided to give the lap steel a try. I purchased the Rogue starter pack which wasn't great but certainly served it's purpose to learn lap steel. I finally decided to upgrade to the Vorson and WOW what a difference! The quality of the craftsmanship and the sound is incredible. I play in a band that does everything from rock to country and when I brought this to practice they couldn't believe the difference in sound. It's really inspired me to learn even more. I use a Boss ME80 effect pedal and am able to get some really cool sounds. Just buy it!

The active pickups are just too hot. When you put the slightest bit of gain on the signal you start getting nasty, dissident overtones. Then when you dial back the gain to get rid of them, the "Clean" tone you get is weak, with too much mid-range. Also the way the knobs work doesn't make any sense. 2 of them are supposed to be volume knobs. But each knob turns down both pickups. And as for the tone knob you get the highest amount of treble when the knob is at 5. And the last thing you can get it to sound like is a plain old lap steel.

This lap steel from Vorson is such a beautiful and amazing instrument! I love the finish and the feel of it right of the box. The only thing I did was restring it with Elderly C6 strings. Quality of manufacture and finish is top notch, as has been the case with every Vorson I own. And, AMS ordering and shipping is superb. I have absolutely no issues with this lap, or ordering and shipping, Two thumbs UP!

Great sound with quiet electronics . SIT strings which I tuned to C6.
3 way toggle switch for paralleled or series selection.
Master tone,Treble and Bass knobs.
Classic tuners
Nice gig bag and slide bar with a cable.
Nice quilted maple veneer top.
Classic tuners, Nice vintage pickups with great sound.
A great value and made in China with good quality control !

I've been playing guitar for 37 years, but this is my first lap steel. I was first looking at a Rogue ($80 new!), then started researching all lap steels low to high. I found this gem, and knew it would be great. I bought the "blemished" one in vintage sunburst, and once it arrived, I was blown away with the quality and looks of this instrument. It had one minor flaw on the top of the guitar, otherwise perfect. These sound great, clean or dirty. I was surprised at how good and quiet the pickups are. Don't hesitate, buy it, you'll love it!!!

This is a decent instrument, well worth the money. The action is decent, it was set up nicely. The pickups are noise free, sounds good clean and dirty.I bought the scratch and dent model and was surprised to see that the only ding was so small I had to spend 5 minutes studying it to find a very slight flaw. The one beef I have is with the control knob's, the Vorson caps that cover the knobs are a bit over sized and kinda sharp on the edges. I would definitely recommend buying this lap steel to start out with.
