Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
have had for 2 weeks now, used about 1.5 hrs each day in a small home studio, all features work and it has great sound, i have been using a Fender Strat and an Acoustic electric 6 string, both have produced great tones and with plenty of punch and volume. The clarity it maintains at higher volumes is super.

Your general opinion of this product.
very pleased with this amp so far, have not used the aux input yet so dont know how the output sound is yet.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
easy to adjust and tweek if you want to customize your own presets. Getting the footswitch with it was a big plus making hands free changes easy.

Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I purchased this amp from AMS,and it arrived in flawless condition.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I can't answer this question yet, only owned for a week so far.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
Nice, compact amp with a lot of tone choices, and oh yeah,it's plenty loud.Amps are subjective, like guitars and strings. I love this amp, makes my ESP with Dimarzio D Activators sound even better than before. The Clean channel is awesome when you find the right Drive setting. The ability to create 8 of your own presets is a nice plus.BTW,it comes standard with a Ruby Tubes 12AX7 pre amp tube. When it decides to go,I may replace it with a JJ ECC803S, GOLD PIN, Ultra-low noise premium 12AX7 tube, but for now I like it as it is.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It feels 24lbs light,no neck, and you must get the footswitch to appreciate this little powerhouse fully.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tones are so many to choose from, read the manual first so you understand it's few limitations, and going on your own presets is a preference for me.The reverb settings are a nice touch.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish on the amp was flawless.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
It hangs around and so far hasn't moved, and likely will not unless I want it to.

Haven't had the amp for a long time. It survived the road trip to our gig and played just fine. I plan on getting a spare 12AX7 tube and would suggest any prospective buyers of this amp to do the same. if your tube bite the dust, you have no power section. No tube = no amp.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I'll have to give an update later on 'reliability' over time. THat's the only reason I gave this review item 4 stars
General
Your general opinion of this product.
I've had several Digitech RP floor model processors, the solid-state RP-12, the RP-14. Also had the RP-20 and the Digitech 2112 rackmount, both with on-board twin 12AX7 tubes. I've also used Jackson and Marshall all-tube heads. I've had a little experience with "sound".
The Vox Valvetronix VT40 Plus is a great little amp that is portable but packs a quality-sounding punch for it's easy-to-carry-size. It does get authentic tube tone in a manageable package. And by "manageable" I mean that the user has full control over the tone without having to max out the power amp section and rattle windows. The amp is plenty loud enough if desired. I often play in smaller venues where my 2X12 combo was just too much amp and to heavy to keep carrying around. I couldn't be happier with this amp that offers more bang for the buck. I also researched my selection and viewed a number of amp shootouts and almost selected a Blackstar amp. I'm glad I went with the VT40.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Easy to program but one should thoughtfully read the manual after you play around with it a little bit. Otherwise you will miss some great features that are not obvious by just working the knobs and switches. The amp has features that I wasn't even aware of until I read the manual. Very useable and easy to program but read the manual completely or else you will screw yourself out of some useful features.
I would also highly recommend getting the optional footswitch. It does NOT come with the amp. Having a highly programmable and useable amp like this without a footswitch si like owning a Corvette sitting on concrete blocks. And as I mentioned previously, one should also have a spare 12AX7 tube on hand in the guitar case or somewhere.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone is great. See "Sound" above.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish looks good. It appears to be built sturdy enough to withstand the abuses of transport and stage.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Before I could even get the amp out of the box, four ninjas busted through the front door of my house and destroyed everything. WTF kind of question is "Action"? The action on my guitar is great. The action form the VT40 is well, kinda' boring. It just sits there and looks like and amp. I do like the ivory-colored chicken-head knobs and the typical Vox grate dressing on the front of the amp.
I'll use the rest of this useless space as a disclaimer: I'm just a regular guitar-playing Joe. I don't work for Vox or American Musical Supply. I don't even know anybody that works for either company. I am however a happy customer of both companies.
This review is simply an honest review by an honest guy with no vested interest in it other than passing on the good word to other like-minded seekers of good tone in an affordable package.

So far it looks like a small work horse. I expect it will last a long while. Nice first amp or even small gig amp if you want something lighter to carry around. Plenty of power when you need it too.

Your general opinion of this product.
I had reservations about purchasing a small amp like this one, however the amp is great. It is small enough not to have to lug around and break your back with but has enough power to play gigs as well. Sounds are good and special effects are good as well. Depending on your selections there are many possibilities with this amp. I bought it for my son as his first amp but I have also used it when I did not want to lug around my Super Reverb. Nice difference in weight. Easy on the back!
