Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The pickups are very hot in series mode. If you need something more mellow pulling the knobs up for parallel cuts the output bigtime. They tend to favor the bright and snappy side of the tonal spectrum but with huge low growl. Overall they sound amazing. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The nirvana black finish is absolutely gorgeous. Very prominent grain in the body looks great!
