It will do the job and save you buying an expensive amp but it could use better headroom and individual toggles for tonal adjustments instead of taking the back off and fumbling with very tiny switches.

I have owned a few MIAB style pedals and this one if by far one of my favorites for my use (tied with the Barber compact Direct Drive.)
This is a compact, heavy little beast of a pedal and it sounds fantastic both used in combination with my Marshall Origin 20 combo, and my Boss Waza Air headphones.
Some of the posititve:
- Compact
- Well built
- Cleans up well with the volume control
- Very close to the actual Plexi sound
- Several different sound options selectable via the internal DIP switches
Some of the negative:
- Knobs are very close together and a little difficult to adjust even with my smallish fingers.
- The DIP switches are located internally so it requires removing the back of the unit to change.

From slight dirt to full on creamy plexi distortion. It’s all there. Cleans up with the guitar volume knob. Pairs well with other exotic effects. I have two SL drives, one for grit and the other set for lead, as well as an exotic AC booster before to add a bit of boost. I run the EP booster at the end for nice volume boost. Synergy with all exotic effects.

Definitely has a vintage Marshall tone to it. It has a lot of distortion on tap if you want it but I’m more using it as a slight boost for leads to a 4 amp wet/dry/dry/wet stereo set up

The Xotic SL Drive has a permanent place on my pedalboard. Works great as a stand alone drive and the internal dip switches allow you to shape your base tone. The Tone and Drive knob and volume pot give more flexibility. Also places nice and juices my OCD Overdrive when I need to pile on the dirt!

Quality made pedal that definitely delivers the sound of an old cranked up Marshall amp. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to dial in the sound I wanted. Highly recommend!

This pedal is amazing. Right out of the box I adjusted the internal switches to the Blackmore or single coil setting and used it on a recording. No complaints just a huge grin at the results. This pedal is worth twice as much as I paid forit.
