Product Rating Product Review I bought this for my Grandson, it's the perfect size. He loves it and will eventually move onto a full size guitar. I took the opportunity to play this when I received it, for the price point I couldn't believe the quality and the sound that came out of the little guitar. Highly recommend this, I'm just truly impressed with Yamaha, period. Love them

Product Review The guitar itself is an easy 5 star. For $150 it's a great value especially when you consider the fact that it comes with a gig bag. Sounds great, plays great, looks great. It does slip out of tune fairly easily, but I may be able to remedy that on my own. DON'T believe the HYPE with their shipping. When I ordered, it said, "order within the next 30 minutes and receive tomorrow." 3 days later, it arrived. When I contacted American Musical about this, they blamed me. If you can wait at least 3 days, go for it!

Product Review I purchased this guitar for my 11 year old daughter. I wanted to find a quality instrument that is smaller in size, easy to play, and stays in tune. I have owned other Yamaha guitars before, and they are a great guitar for the price. The Yamaha FG JR1 did not disappoint! The guitar is easy to play, stays in tune and it sounds pretty good for a small guitar. The strings do feel a little heavy for a beginner. I would definitely recommend changing the strings to a lighter gauge for a beginning player. I recommend the Ernie Ball Earthwood Silk and Steel Extra Soft 10-50. They’re a great string for tender young fingers.

Product Review Solid easy to play and stays in tune! The perfect lap companion while watching TV or just hanging around without the bulk of a full size guitar. I been playing the FG for couple of weeks and find myself picking it up more often then my ovation simply for the convenience, comfort and it sound is pretty good too. A perfect guitar for a serious youngster that wants to excel and not be held back by trying to learn on a inferior guitar...

Product Review Excellent beginner guitar for my daughter. Yamaha always makes a solid product. Tuned up nice and has stayed in tune well. Great acoustics, projects well, tone is bright compared to a full size or a nylon string. I’ve played it myself several times and it moves well. Highly recommended for junior size

Great Beginner and Travel Guitar!

This guitar is a lasting guitar. The spruce top is very durable and the sides and back(I think it may be spruce too) are very durable also. The only problem is that the wood was very dull when I bought it. All I needed was a little Pledge and that brightened things up. The neck is very glossy. And the fretboard doesn't collect grease the way other guitars do. This guitar is still playing great after three years of owning it(almost four actually) and putting maybe only 16 dollars into it's maintenence(excluding new strings). and it was my own fault having to put the extra money into it because I screwed around with the Tuning Heads. Your general opinion of this product. I love it! The neck does need adjusting right now but I have had it for almost four years and have played hard so it only needs slight adjusting. The only complaint is that it came with heavy steel strings. Such a small guitar really needs a light gauge string to sound as good as a standard size. This guitar is just right for me. I have grown out of it but still enjoy playing it because it is easy to handle and even though there is no cutaway the lower frets are fairly easy to access With a .50MM pick this guitar sounds bright and beautiful with a .60MM it sounds almost as well. I do prefer a lighter pick anyway because I like to strum hard. but the heavier .70MM is too heavy for me to use on such a small guitar. The top of the guitar is and was beautiful. I recomend spending a little money on a bottle of Pledge for the back, sides and neck, you can also use that on the top you just need to be careful not to get it on the fretbord or strings, that will probably grease them up and dull the sound and playability. I was very inexperienced when I bought this guitar(my first guitar!) but as a beginner I think it sounded alright and of course as I said before, it should have come with a light gauge string, even strings from wal-mart suck as GHS Jammers Light or First Act Creamies; they are fine I have a set of first act creamies on mine right now and it has never sounded better!

Don't pass this guitar up if you want a good bargi

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Very well made guitar. All the bindings are tight, the finish is nice, good tuning pegs...a fine little guitar.

FEATURES:
After a few mins of playing you forget it is a "Junior" guitar. The single note, and finger picking sound is very good. The strumming of course has a smaller body with which to make sound, but it is really on the good side.

EASE OF USE:
Once you adjust to the smaller body, everything else is in good porportions. It didn't come with a "manual" but none was needed.

VALUE:
Absolutely a good deal. It is the first guitar I have ever bought without playing it first. It was worth it. They got it here a few days after I ordered it, well wrapped and the little gig bag was quite nice.

SOUND:
Because of the small body it of course is not going to boom like some big drednaught, however, as I said above, the single note and picking sound is excellent. The strumming sound is acceptable

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Solid unit

FEATURES:
Solid spruce top verses laminate

EASE OF USE:
Set up is fine from the factory.

VALUE:
Price is about right. Anymore, and a buyer should start looking at the solid top 3/4 size guitars.

SOUND:
Given that this guitar is smaller, and has a lamintated body, it still has a good sound.

STYLE:
Bluegrass

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
Amateur

OVERALL:
This is a great beginner guitar, or travel guitar. Too many kids are given toys to try to begin learning an instrument, and it's actually a hindrance. This is a real instrument. It's a very small investment to help you child get started.
