Ive used these in other setups and did have reservations because the low end wasn't as much as I loked to mix correctly but those were in a HS5 setup and untreated room. After going with the larger HS8s in my room I realized the low end is perfectly clear and gives me a true hold of what I'm mixing. Won't need a sub as I was anticipating. Overall the flat references these give out are true yet very detailed. Can't wait to use these more throughout the years.

Ive worked with these in the past and loved working with them and could tell my mixes had more breath and room in them cause i could see or hear better with them. But I'm a person who works off the bias of " make what you have work " and so finally decided to upgrade my studio rig and finally hot the hs8's and boy am i excited the jump from the Samson rxa5 to these is just night and day not only the jump from an 5 inch woofer to and 8 inch woofer but the clarity and just how visible and clear you can hear the 3d space is astounding its like i was mixing with a slight blindfold on and now my sight is clear when mixing. if your just starting or finally upgrading i think you cannot go wrong with these monitors they popular for a reason and that reason is that they are just tried and true perfect monitors

I've experienced many different types of speakers throughout my lifetime. None of them have matched the quality of sound produced by these. I know a lot of people always say these are great. However, to truly understand you need to hear them in person. If you are questioning on whether to buy these or not, I suggest you stop asking yourself if you should. Start asking yourself why you don't own them already! These are worth every penny I spent on them. My friends and family have loved hearing how they sound when I show them off. These have also been a great help in getting the right mix in the music I produce. Buy these and you won't regret it!

Well, went from the M-Audio Bx5 Graphite, to these, and these are a gem. Honestly best bang for your buck without spending 1000$ plus on monitors. The most true flat frequency response I’ve heard yet. I’ve played around with KRK, Presonus, and nothing compares. The bass, isn’t super crazy but packs a punch though, 8’ cones very stable. The knobs on back are very easy to adjust, and read. I keep mine up around 1/4 to half on the gain knob. You don’t need anymore than that. Especially with proper treated room. I work out of bedroom and they sound fantastic, I don’t have all the padding on my walls to stop frequencies from reflecting off wall to wall, but to be honest I don’t even notice it. You want a good pair of monitors I couldn’t recommend anything else unless you want to spend the big dollar amounts on Adam Audio’s etc.

I bought this to enhance the output of my digital piano. Wow! This takes things to a whole new level. Super clear sound, I doubt I could tell it apart from the real thing. simply put these kick butt compared to other under a 1000.00 speakers I've worked with I loved the first Mackie's that came out. Yet, theses are so much better the truth is in the mix and the clients happiness. I can say good-by to high frequencies ear fatigue enjoying all the work I need to do every day.

I purchase my Yamaha HS8 for my recording studio and I must say, the speakers are one of the best speakers I have ever owned. The sound is not tainted, it has neutral sound coloration, which is exactly what I need. With the speakers I get the best mix I can crank up my monitors high with no distortion. It’s integrated control function give me a wide frequency response, It helps me move between high and low and frequencies perfectly. One of the greatest investments of my life. I’m happy I made it.

These studio monitors have the iconic white woofers that other high-end Yamaha speakers are known for. They sound terrific and have larger speakers for that rich bass sound. These speakers are excellent and as far as my mixes sound flat with no distortion. They give me a true sound and they are my main monitors that I use for mixing because they give me an accurate representation of the low end that smaller monitors don't give me. When I play the mix in my car it sounds exactly like it sounds coming out of the monitor. Great job Yamaha! Thank you for making them easy to pay for American Musical!

Absolutely loving these new monitors! The clarity across the full sound spectrum is absolutely perfect allowing the listener to hear everything in even the most complex mix. Very happy I went with the HS8’s. Plenty of low end that is natural and not over done.

As a producer of 20+ years, hiphop/rnb, the yamaha hs8s are amazing. I look for great highs, mids and solid lows and these live up to its name.
Accuracy
As a sound designer, the clarity reaponse is so clear, it picks up sound id usually not hear with other speakers, I am able to create big sound such as realistic strings that sounds huge. Tweaking sounds is what I love, so tweaking frequencies with bass or 808s so they will not clash with other low end sounds, these speakers are perfect for that. Lots of producers have this issue, I highly recommend for aound clarity.
Bass
Ive owned lots of speakers, as I work with lots of bass and 808 sounds, the hs8s by far have amazed me, solid and tight kicks, 808s etc. All sound amazing and not muddy, not to loud and over bearing and not to soft. Perfect responses. The bass and kicks are so tight, id leave a beat I am creating on loop for hours because I be amazed on the clarity.
Overall
Highs, Mids, Lows are what my ears judge when it comes to speakers and Yamaha did a great job, id give this 10 stars.So if you take your sound serious like I do, get the yamaha hs8s, you will not be disappointed.

Great Response, perfect for mixing or audiophile playback. Was exactly what I was missing in my production arsenal. Whether it be a small room home studio with the HS5 or HS7 as well, Yamaha does not disappoint. A+ HS8's in my opinion or BY FAR best studio monitors you could have for definitely under $500 each, maybe even $1000 per speaker and I've used KRK, Focal, Adam which are up there but for this price they're not only better, but a fraction the cost of those Brands.

These can fill an entire house with high quality sound. They don't need a subwoofer (at least for the 8 inch cones). Incredibly clear and hifi sound (I'm a huge audiophile). Paired with Tidal master quality or FLACs is incredible. My only quarrel is that they were shipped in the Yamaha box, so it would have been a very attractive package to steal from any thieves. Please package them in another box!

These speakers are incredible. I’ve read so many reviews that describe these as the most professional recording monitors for under 1,000$ and I couldn’t be happier for listening. They are a bit larger than expected but the frequency range is to die for. Will definitely take care of these for years to come. If anyone is on the fence about buying them, please give them a chance. You won’t regret it, I assure you.

Have a Great balance in spectrum.
I wouldn’t use them for regular living room monitors . But to mirror accurately as possible these are very close to the NS 10’s so sought after in the industry I would definitely recommend these puppies !

these are the same studio monitors i used in school as well as in multiple studios. so it was only right that i got them for my own studio. they are a bit bright on the top end but that's what i need it helps me get my de-esser settings perfect as well as make sure i don't boost to much on the top end of my vocals. I love the HS8s. I interned at Assemble Sound in Detroit, MI and they used them in the main studio room. I purchased the set with the subs and it makes my mixing process so much easier. I am absolutely satisfied with this purchase. Only thing I regret is waiting so long to pick these monitors up. If you are looking for a good pair of of studio monitors I highly recommend the Yamaha Hs8's. The clarity from the tweeter and the low end from the 8 inch woofer makes this speaker well worth the money!!!

The sound that comes from these monitors is perfect. First of, the speakers look amazing and they are eye catching. The highs and mids are heard precisely. I would always recommend a sub to hear the low frequency accurately. I love the flat response you get from these monitors. Great buy!

I use to own a pair of NS7’s these speakers blew my mind with the accurate detail of the sound. These speakers sound much better than speakers costing up to 3 times the money. Very tight bass and very crisp highs and a very good frequency range. If you need a accurate true mixing monitor look no further to these you won’t be disappointed.

I new I wanted these the 1st time I heard them about 8 or so years ago. Though not my first pair of studio monitors, they’re the best I’ve had so far. Coming from the Rokit 8s, I was really blown away by the sound and crispiness from the monitors. To describe the sound or compare to the rokit 8s, they have a brighter richer sound. You may have to go back and mix because you will definitely differences in your mix during playback. I feel like this speakers are step up and I’m more than happy with my purchase. These are gonna train your ear to be more efficient and less lazy. If you wanna up your game Yamaha is the name!

These are the 2nd set of these that I own. Not that the first ones wore out or went faulty, but now I have a set on each floor of my house where I do work. I have a set in my downstairs studio, and now a set upstairs where I rough ideas out. These are hands down the best bang for your buck monitors. Great sound and great reliability. Ok so I auditioned the 6 different monitors, under 1k and 2 over 1k. The Yamaha HS8 were the best by far of all under 1k, including the Jbl 308 and the Krk rocket 8. I also tried the entry level Adams’s and liked these a lot more.as far as over over 1k in cost, I like the alpha 80’s (focal) more, especially in the mid range area, however they are 1100 dollars and slightly over what I was willing to spend. For the money there is no studio monitor, close to these period. I use these for gaming, movies and tv, but I also listen to a lot of music in hi-res. From the tv I use The optical out cable, to a small 30$ dac and presto I have full perfect sound. Couldn’t be happier with output and the quality of sound. Don’t need a sub with these unless you are a movie buff or spend a lot of time mixing. ( allows for better separation. They are lively, even at low volumes and eliminate the issue of not hearing voices and having to crank them up. I keep these around volume 2 and it’s plenty to fill a 25x20 living room.
I do help mix some and I use these to determine if the quality of the mix. It has made a huge difference in finished products as I am able to hear detailed information, and clean up muddy sounding recordings.
In response the the person who keeps posting buy the Yamaha NS-6490, please stop. You are truly an idiot , and misleading people. I bought these and tried them and they are clean, loud, and very large speakers. They are actually about 1/2 larger than the HS8.they are also passive and not powered. They don’t sound half as good as the HS8’s, and they need at least 75 watts to get them going. They still only produce about half the sound of the HS8, but would make a great set of theater speakers with a high powered receiver. best speaker non-powered under 150$

I am a producer and engineer. I owned a pair of Yamaha NS10’s and when they eventually blew out after 20 years, I was very interested in a comparable pair of monitors. After listening to the Yamaha HS5’s and the HS8’s, I decided to go with the 8’s due to the fact that they add more bottom. Just like any other monitors, you have to find the sweet spots, and also allow your ears to adapt to the different fields and frequencies. After months of having these monitors, they are definitely a winner in my book. I have produced, mixed and now mastered several projects with these monitors and I would highly recommend them for any studio setup. You will not be disappointed.

These speakers pack a very strong and clear punch into their 8-inch frame. The mids and highs sound very accurate and even without a sub woofer there is a decent amount of bass boom. I can see why these are the top of the line in the HS series. Very tolerable sound -- not too harsh or bright but not muddy either. I can definitely see how these have become an industry standard.

First off, I just want to say how great the customer service at AM has been. I made a mistake on the order and was worried it would prevent it from getting shipped before the weekend. Called up their support and they immediately picked up and resolved the issue. Plus it still arrived at the expected delivery date.
As for the HS8's they are perfect for any home studio. Nice frequency response and very flat. Keep in mind if you're in a smaller space, you may be better off with the hs5's. These are very powerful and may be too much in smaller space.
Overall they are really solid. Great for any music production/mixing or just casual listening.
Recommend a sub for lower frequencies, but these have a decent range of low end as well.
If you're thinking about it, whether it's these or the HS5's, go for it!

Upgraded from the Rokit KRK 8. While the KRK did serve its purpose well, moving on to the Yamaha HS8 instantly made a impact. Great midrange and controlled lows. Took a while to adjust my ears to it but afterwards I found myself managing the sonic responses more effectively. Highly recommend!

I’ve never heard this much detail and clarity in any speakers. You’ll hear things you’ve never known were there in your tracks. I will say that the HS8s hold more of a bass clarity while the HS7s have better clarity in the highs as opposed to the lows. Either way, you definitely get what you pay for! Great product!

I Went From the 8 Inch Mackies to these, and it was the best decision made. As I transition from beat maker to producer, I need monitors that will deliver true sound with a flat image. These things are great, from High end Frequencies to Low End.

I bought the Yamaha HS8 speakers and all I can say is WOW they sound incredible and they have Plenty of bass. For some reason my speakers have some hiss sound to them but all you have to do is turn the gain knob down slightly and they still are super loud, crisp and great for mixing......I see why a lot of producers have these speakers

I ran with that set up for about a year then decided to sell both pairs and I came back to the Yamahas. Great sounding monitors. Iv never had a bad thing to say about these monitors. Let's me know exactly what I need to fix in the mix. Buy them figure them out and your mixes will thank you

I've owned a wide range of studio monitors, from the very cheapest to some of the most expensive. For most mid-level home studios and smaller commercial studios, these monitors give exceptional performance for the typical budget. Many use the Yamaha HS5 monitors these days as replacements or substitutes for the famous NS10's. They do sound very similar. But if you'd like something with a bit more low end, the HS8 is the perfect choice. The best way I could come up with how to describe how the HS8 monitors sound is "transparent". The HS5's are good. The HS8's are a step up and they almost "disappear", allowing you to hear the music in its purest form. For the $$, of course. Yes, $2500 monitors (and up) will sound better and be even more transparent, but for this price range, the HS8 monitors can't be beat. They are now my "A" monitors in the studio for tracking, mixing, and mastering.

I absolutely love these monitors, I use them at home for producing, djing, and parties, these monitors put out plenty of sound for parties, tbh they can be to loud in a house setting.
I've taken these monitors to the lake and other outdoor areas to play some music and they were more than sufficient for what I was doing. On top of all that american musical's payment plans are amazing and the customer service is the best I've seen, they will always answer your calls and have good information on hand... highly recommend the monitors and american musical, I will definitely be doing more buisness with them

If you don't have a pair of these in the mix position, you better get you some!! Four monitors that I have trusted through the last thirty years... Tannoy Baby Golds, Alesis M1's (Original Unpowered), Yamaha NS10M's and Dynaudio BM6A's. After a proper break-in period, these monitors do not disappoint! Critical listening to digital streams, vinyl records, 24/192 and 24/96 mixes and finally my 16 track 2" Multitrack tape machine, I'm really happy to have purchased a pair. I purchased these a while back and have not been disappointed in any way. They have one of the best flat responses around, my mixes sound almost the same on any type of audio system.
Response to a remark below. You could go out and by the lower priced Yamaha's in your post, but you failed to mention these are book shelf speakers not studio monitors. They're made for listening to everyday music. Their response is not nearly as flat as the HS8's so your mixes are going to hurt. In my opinion the HS8's are worth every penny, and I would never purchase a pair of bookshelf speakers to use as monitors.

the yamaha NS-6490 has 3 drivers and is even bigger and better and only cost 130 for a pair! and you can buy a yamaha 2x100 watt reciever for 150! total $300 including tax for two yamaha speakers that sound way better and higher output than these that have the exact same speakers in them.

I had rocket 5 before I found out about these. I purchased a pair and it totally changed the dynamic of my recording studio. The options it gives you to fit your room are great. The flatter sound of these ensures that your mix is solid. they are loud and focused. Oh and lets not forget that they look baller. That always counts i don't care what you say about that. If you are thinking you like the white on white better, but want to go with black on with white cones to be safe.... just get the all white ones. I wish i had :) Buy these and buy from AMS they have the best service.
