This subwoofer is built well. The response is incredible. Deep thunderous bass even at low levels. I didnt realize how lacking my mixes were until I installed this Sub. This sub helped me to dial in the Bass and Sub and now my tracks dont sound so muddy.

I have bought this subwoofer to use with HS8s and HS5s. While it isn't really needed for HS8s unless you are working with a lot of sub bass, I would highly recommended it for use with HS5s. It helps round off the low end and gives you full control so you can achieve great sound when mixing and mastering. It can definitely go loud so use it sparingly when mixing and turn it up when you wanna listen to some jams/watch a movie.

Matched with the HS8's, all three 8's banged. Tried two other subs (Adam 10 and some other popular brand, can't remember), and they both were distorted at lower volumes, as well as muddier. For reference I have a properly sound treated studio area, and years of experience. If you pair these with Yamaha 5 or 7's, or preferably the 8's, you're going to be happy. Also make sure to buy some quality cables, but I'm sure you already knew that. I've gone through a handful of monitors and subs, and I can say that most subs don't usually sound this accurate or handle a load like this one can. I'm extremely happy I made the purchase!

I have bought the HS8S Subwoofer together with the Yamaha HS7 Power Monitors to upgrade my recording studio sound system. And, let me tell you, that is being the best purchase I have ever done in my life. This subwoofer is extremely powerful and sound very clear. You will be able to hear very clearly all the bass range of the instruments. The subwoofer’s construction quality is best to none!!! I am very please with the purchase of the Yamaha HS8S Studio Subwoofer and I will recommend the purchase of this item to anyone looking to upgrade their studio sound system to produce professional music arraignments.

I must say! Yamaha without a doubt produces the flattest sound Within and beyond it’s price range, and adding this sub, is mandatory, why? Because it gives you access to taking the bass as high or low as you desire, and measuring exactly how and what frequencies you want to come through your lower speakers. I tell you, my bass is so friggin clean and crisp, I feel if vibrate to my souls core and I throw in some compression on my mix and oh my god I quiver and shake with excitement hearing how incredible this bass sounds. It is very clean without any muddy reverb at all. It seems to be very fresh and deep, rich and airy at the same time it’s classic and modern right where I need it to feel for new sound to be created without loosing site of direction and feel.
TLDR:
A must have if you’re serious about making music.

The information it gives you is clean and thorough. There are crisper cleaner subs if you’re producing Death Cab For Cutie, but this thing is dang near perfect. If you’re serious about producing sound, you need good bass communication.

I own and operate a professional recording studio. We were in the middle of building or new location when our subwoofer blew, we’ve been running the Yamaha HS8’s for about a year now so we wanted to move to this sub eventually anyway and hands down we do not regret the purchase. It blew me away that all that low end can come out of an 8 inch subwoofer. It has superb clean and punchy bass. Perfect for any engineer trying to fight the bass and kick drum battle. This is a perfect companion to the hs 5’s, sound is not overblown like some branded subs. When this sub is dialed in it just fills out the lower octave that is missing with the hs 5’s without being too boomy. I don’t mix a lot of bass heavy music but it really helps me get the flub out of kick drums and bass guitars. If you have the room I would highly recommend.

Okay,I have 2 HS7's and wanted a subwoofer to fill in the low end...I mostly use my system recording,playing guitar thru it,and listening to music in general...Just got the HS8S today,so I have only spent a few hours with it...I am impressed and maybe a little disappointed at the same time..It sounds great,but I used to have the KRK 10 sub,and the Yamaha is nowhere near as loud or powerful...Its not boomy and loud like the KRK...its more subtle...you don't hear it,but if you turn it off,you notice immediately...very balanced....So if you are looking for a sub that will shake the walls,this ain't it....if you are looking for a smaller,tighter,more balanced sound,this is it....I am still trying to decide...but matched with my HS7's,the system sounds massive...Gonna live with it a few more days and decide if I will be keeping or returning for maybe the JBL LSR 10 or another KRK....

Your general opinion of this product.
I have the Yamaha HS 80 monitors and had the KRK sub with them. Wanted a more balanced system. Switched to the HS*s sub. Man the sound with all three is amazing, the built in crossover and everything set to 12 o clock. Killer! Yamaha makes a great speaker for mixing.
The tone is not over the top, its just right, i mix a lot so accuracy is more important. The KRK sounded awesome but not accurate. The HS8s Sub had improved the whole set up, taht and the Yamaha hs8 monitors is a winning combination
