WX5 Woodwind Controller
Quality:
Did my research before purchasing this model. This electronic instruments seems to be very well constructed. Although I would dream of dropping it because the keys are made of plastic. But all in all, it's very durable and well constructed. Feels really nice when playing.
Features:
The ability to transform 'breath control' to acoustic woodwind sounds.
What might be really nice is an external midi configuration utility to configure the WX5 instead of pushing button combination's on the instrument itself.
Ease of Use:
It's relatively easy to configure, although I don't really like the dip-switches. I haven't fiddled with the internal setup and configuration within the instrument yet.
Didn't take too long to figure out which settings I needed to make it work. Comes out of the box configured by default to be used with a tone generator. Works with Midi just fine after a couple dip-switch changes.
The instrument is very playable but is more sensitive that other reed instruments (sax). Takes some getting use to how sensitive the pad keys react.
Sound:
Well, currently using the Midi interface into my Kurztweil sampler and the sound is acceptable. I'm sure that once it's connected to a tone-generator that the sound will be much better.
Action:
Had to configure the unit to interact with my Midi instrument. Several dip switches had to be set specifically for Midi control I'm saving up for the tone generator now. That is ultimately the perfect combination and match to the WX5...
Value:
Yes, the instruments does exactly what it's suppose to do. Trigger midi events to either a synth or tone generator. Very expressive instrument. I've played keys for many years and always wanted the expression that a reed instrument provided. This is the way to go without buying a sax, flute, trumpet, etc.
