Product Rating Product Review I already own one of these and I am considering buying another one as a backup and for syncing them together to get 16 tracks of recording in real time if needed in band situations. I have used about 1/12 of what this machine is capable of. I have compared the the mastering section of this recorder with some of the online "mastering services" and this recorder competes with them no problem. Never need to "bounce" tracks because you have 24 digital tracks. If your intimidated of software recording like me (Cubase,Pro-tools ect..ect)then this is the best alternative. And yes it has built-in drum tracks to use as well.

Product Review I got this recorder because it seemed a little less complicated than some other brands in this price range. I was right and so far I’m really happy I got it. It also has two built in condenser mics that are decent so it’s ready to go out of the box.

Product Review Seems to clip an awful lot even when your not peaking in the red. It's a pretty horrible problem. Everything sounds fine during recording then at playback everything is peaked out still well bv below the red. I find it practically impossible to use. I'd like to know if anyone else has the same problem.

Product Review I was looking to replace my Tascam One PortaStudio. (I know, I know, old, cassette, blah, blah, blah) . Had no input on Ch 1 and the cassette didn't work so its usage was relegated to being a 3 channel mixer for my bass when I need to practice, learn songs, etc. I ran my laptop and my bass thru the PortaStudio so I could play along with the tunes. It was only 4 (3) channels and I needed more inputs as well. It worked for what I had needed it for but it was long overdue for retirement. Lately friends have been sending me tracks to add bass to and I knew I had to step my recording gear up. I have always been partial to Tascam products, so I began looking for a device that would act as mixer, stand alone recorder but was also a DAW controller for when I wanted to use a bigger monitor and music software. I wanted to keep it old school as I hate using only a mouse and wanted to use sliders and knobs. The ONLY product that had all of the above features was the Zoom R24. None of the Tascam devices controlled a DAW, which was a deal breaker. The Zoom has 24 tracks of recording, 8 inputs, 2 built in mics for live/field recording and can control Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, etc. The preamps are quiet, the unit was easy to setup/learn and I was tracking bass within an hour. I can either record a track by playing a clients stereo track into the R24 or I can import a WAV file into a DAW and use it to record new bass, etc. A fantastic all-in-one device since I did not want to buy a separate mixer, digital interface, preamp, etc. In addition to adding bass to tracks, last weekend I did a small recording session for a podcast as a favor for a friend and to put the R24 to the test. I recorded the podcast, then added an intro theme, background music, ads, effects, and an interview that was recorded 2 days later. Used about 12 tracks. Mixed every thing to stereo, then compressed to MP3 file flawlessly. Looks like I have a new client! She now only has to record the weekly audio of the podcast and can reuse everything else or record/sweeten new audio. The Zoom R24 is a brilliant, powerful piece of musical hardware. Thank you AMS for making it so easy to purchase and for the quick shipment. It is exactly what I was looking for and needed! I have used it for about a month, it has exceeded my expectations and my only wish was that it was larger in size like a true mixing board but that would make it less portable, so I guess that is just me nitpicking. Oh, AND it also has a drum machine/sequencer built on that I haven't used yet! Awesome, awesome device. Thank you again, Wayne

Product Review The R24 does everything the write-ups say it will do, and with incredible ease. The instructions are simple and well written, and there are no hidden "gotcha" items. It works exactly as designed, and I (a longtime musician with no recording experience except for session guitar work) had it up and running, and recording, in about 15 minutes. This is the best investment I have made in a very long time!

Product Review Need to record??? Well look no further than the Zoom R24. This is a monster machine coupled with Cubasis LE. Onboard functions between sampling and not to mention looping abilities will bring ANY music production to a level of Professional Quality! The ease of recording is what all musicians and engineers are looking for besides it's portability and ability to use the intergated mic system. Zoom R24 as definitely upped the game from it's just as powerful R16. So don't strain your eyes looking at displays to try to edit your creations but take the ease and workability and portability you will find in the ZOOM R24...Don't need that much head room? Check out the ZOOM R16. Don't just settle to coast through your production...you were meant to ZOOM!

USB easy to transfer songs from computer to computer. best recorder under $3,000 Quick patch or use drums and built in mics for a really nice sound. Has FX and can control plugins and other outboard gear Small and compact. Touring, small clubs, studio. Fits in my gig bag. Idiot proof!

Product Review This thing is easy to operate.great recordings..feature that sold me was recording 8 tracks at the same time,,the whole band. the effects input on my vocals were GREAT. Also I used it for a mixer for live band jobs if I didnt need the bigger board. Hint get a 16,or 32 gb sd card. The 2gb sd card will only give you 50 minutes with all 8 channels at once and you wont be able to mix down on the r-24,, you'll have to load into a computer to finish mixdown,Ill use the mixcraft 7 program to polish it off.. Over all VERY SATISFIED with this..If interested you can get an in depth step by step demo on how to use this unit on u-tube from a guy called topdassle,,otherwise if you don't run out of room on sd-card you can then mix down on r-24

Product Review This is the 1st multi-track recorder I ever purchased. It was between the TASCAM 32D or the Zoom R24. I chose the Zoom because it is much more versatile and easier to use than the TASCAM 32D. It also has more functions than the TASCAM. I am just studying the manual, as ALL multi-track equipment, you should read manual and understand functions and paths to get the full value out of equipment. THUMBS UP!

Product Review I own a Zoom Q4, very impressed with the quality. Was looking at the R16 multi-track, but found a "dent & scratch" R24 for the same price. Was told of the 45 day satisfaction guarantee, so I took a chance. I opened the shipping box, & the factory box the unit was packed in was mangled & wrapped like a mummy w/box tape (uh-oh). Cut open the box, & the unit was in pristine condition (whew). The dent & scratch must have been the box itself. Have used it about a month, tried out most of the features, & it works great so far. A friend bought another brand, and never used it because it was so complicated. I borrowed it, and he was right. Layers of menus to navigate, & simple tasks become complex very quickly. Too hard to use and no fun!! The R24 is a breeze in comparison! As simple as you want (simple is good), and even complex functions are not too difficult. Good sound quality, portability (bought a case for it). Multi-track in the field without tearing down & moving my whole studio!

Product Review Having used an H4n I am familiar with Zoom's intuitive operation and the R24 only expands on the ease of use. The operation manual is surprisingly simple and laid out in a practical order with helpful hints and notes. The R24 is equally useful as a "sketchbook" or for larger projects. Build quality is good but the enclosure is plastic hence the four stars vs. five though I still highly recommend as its battery power option, light weight, and eight simultaneous inputs make it mobile and capable of recording multiple instruments/vocals in a take. Mixing down is simple on the R24 or on the included Cubase LE version DAW. Bottom line, good product at a reasonable price.

Your general opinion of this product. Finally!!! An all-in-one that allows you to take your field work, download/upload it to our chosen DAW on your computer and make the final professional changes from there!!! OR, if you wish, mix everything down on the unit and finish there. Excellent! One of the very few units that I've been able to use before having to read the manual. Stand-alone/Interface/Controller - all in one unit?!! Holy mackerel!!! None to add that I can think of at this time. Awesome! I've only had this a few weeks. I've put it through a good amount of use already... I expect it will last a long time.

Your general opinion of this product. I record critical piano, acoustic guitar and keyboards for professional use and CD production. I took a step back by using a recording "box" because my computer replacement was making too much noise. So now I record raw tracks quickly and easily to the R24 then transfer to my computer for editing and mastering. This is the only product offering a standard 44kh@24 WAV file for direct import. The R24 shows up on the computer as a storage device with a simple file system. Recording quality is as good or better than computer, with enough headroom for lack of distortion on peaks but good strong levels. Built in mics sound very good for scratch ideas, not for actual production. I chose the R24 only because of the display, I don't need 24 tracks. I can't imaging using that two line display on the R16 for navigation, no thanks. Menus are logical and quick to get to. I wish the display was bigger though. Tactile controls feel good and consistent. Setting up raw recording is very fast. transport is a pleasure after computer mouse control. Setting up overdubs (multitracking) just got very fast and convenient since all the control is right in front of you. I learned how to use all the features for recording last night in about 4 hours. Drum and sampler will not use. Effects are only for monitors and do not print. Effects are easy to use and apply to monitoring. The standard WAV format for direct import into my DAW is why I bought this. The Tascam does not do this directly, plus it's footprint is too big for my needs. 8 inputs for 8 track recording makes it possible to use the R24 outside the studio easily. Sound is good, have not tested the pre-amps for condenser mics yet, but I am sure they are superior to my old Tascam interface. Direct injecting keyboards sound good and detailed. New, we will see. second Zoom product I own.

Your general opinion of this product. This is my first Digital Recorder, so I am learning all that it has to offer. So far it has done exactly what I wanted it to. I will be putting it to the test. But so far it is very good. It seems well made and dependable. I was surprised at how small and light it is.It runs a long time on battery. Since this is my first digital recorder I had some trouble getting it to work with the software. I still have not quite got that part. Once I stopped using the softward and just listened to the recording I found it to be very good. I am still learning how to use it. The best features, recording to a SD card this is really great. Sounds very good. N/A since I have only had this for about 3 weeks

VERY well constructed. The only exception being the SD card situation mentioned above. I love all of the features - from the way there is no shutdown sequence that you have to remember before shutting down the unit to the effects, to the meter bridge to the drum machine to the sampling capability to the adaptability/versatility of it being a stand alone unit or DAW control surface. Within 15-20 mins, I was recording using the on-board drum machine, the effects on guitar that made it sound like a wall of Marshall stacks, and a bass sound that was full and rich ... all with just plugging in direct!! It doesn't get much easier than that, folks. I think the sound is exceptional considering its tiny size and price point. I've had friends who attend university for recording ask me how I master my recordings ... a lot of times, I don't! One of my more hyper-analytical audiophile friends was blown away at the radio quality recording I was getting ... PRE MASTERING!! I've had this for about 6-8 months and with only one glitch that was corrected by switching out to a new SD card, this unit is super reliable. Your general opinion of this product. My ONLY complaint is that the memory is SD oriented. The least little quirk seems to corrupt the SD card. However, I'd rather whatever quirks only corrupt an SD card than to have the entire unit crash, like what happened repeatedly on other units I've owned. I'm VERY, VERY, VERY satisfied with this unit. Its portable; has 8 XLR inputs that also accept 1/4"; built in meter bridge; on-board effects; on-board mastering; DAW control capability; ... LOTS of bang for very little buck, comparatively. Like I said in my subject line ... GET THIS!!

The faders could have been a litle better but look at the price. You will NEVER find all of the features and ease of recording anywhere else. I hated ALL zoom products and they have redeemed themselves. If you are a guitar player you will ove the design capabilities for sound. No more amps to lug around, no more pedals. You can do virtually anything you want for sound with this box. the tuner options are awesome and maybe will finally teach some of the "guitar gods" about tuning and alternate tunings...they are spot on. The mix section is incredible...no more guess work and running back and forth between stereos to see if sound is right. I do wish they would have included a cd burner. It is the biggest draw back to the whole system. The manual is little vague at times. The one feature i do not like is the selection from the d pad, It gets tiring at times. I am a degreed sound engineer with 30 years of playing and recording under my belt and own a studio so trust me if you want to do some serious recording on a budget this is the deal. Get a padded bag to protect it. I do not think it would stand up to a drop over a foot. Your general opinion of this product. It is really an amazing recorder although I wish the mics that are built in were protected better than the plastic they are housed in. Looks great and sounds great.

Dont worry about the comments about "it is made out of plastic". It is very durable. Those people that are concerned about it being made out of plastic should learn to take care of their equipment and not just toss it into the car when they are done. for my recording needs, this thing does it all. Not sure what else I would need to add as it seems to have way more settings, adjustments, FX, than I'll ever be able to figure out how to use properly. The Zoom R24 Recorder was all plug n play. hooked it up, turned it on, plugged in mikes, pa, etc into the inputs and recorded my first studio gig with no difficulty at all. Installed the Cubase LE 5 software on my laptop, used the supplied configuration template for 8 channel simultaneous recording to my laptop and it all worked without having to fight anything. Worked first time right out of the box. It sounds great when playing thru my PA from the output lines, it sounds great as a USB audio device for my laptop. I know how I treat my stuff so I'm figuring the unit will last me for as long as I want to use it. I've only had it for a few weeks. I figure if the electronics last longer then the warranty, then it will last me for as long as I need it. Your general opinion of this product. This device has it all. I'm so glad I purchased it.

Eh, its plastic, but pretty well built. I'm sure it will hold up for years. I love that it can be used as an interface. Would not add anything just take away the pads. To me useless. Zoom is great and not to compilicated to use. Just got to take the time to figure it out. The manuel is like a book but it gives you some good walk throughs. For my first multi-track recorder I'm pleased. Pretty good sound, better than what i was used to hearing. Months in and its only obtained a few light scratches from multiple moves. Your general opinion of this product. Great product.

Seems well made so far, I like that its metal for sure. I use this as an interface, working good so far. Mic Pre are nice and queit. A feature I wouldn't mind having is a LINE PAD on the channels would be helpful for drum recording. Seems to be pretty easy to use so far. Download the updated drivers and Firmware, because ZOOM does try to get it up to date and good. Sounds pretty clear n/a Your general opinion of this product. Definitly a good buy so far, I bought mainly for a Interface for my recording software but now I have bands asking for live recording so maybe I'll plug that in to the direct outs of my A&H GL2400 live console to see what it can really do. Its NICE to have that option

24 track recorder for $499, what more can you say.

As I said, I handle my equipment like I'm handling a sheet of dried sand that's ready to crumble at any moment so I don't know how it handles under normal stress. If taken care of it should last many many years; definately until something else takes its place. Obviously having 24 tracks makes life easy, no having to bounce tracks to add more instruments/vocals. From prereading the manual I thought that tracks would be limited since, when using the drums, each stereo drum phrase is assigned to 2 tracks. If you have 6 or 7 differnt drum phrases there goes 12 to 14 tracks. However once those phrases are assigned to tracks and the sequence is set up those can then be easily bounced down to a pair of tracks leaving 22 tracks for vocals/instruments. The auto punch in/punch out was a breeze to use and sounds seemless. If your looking to do any track editing the Zoom is very limited. However if you're just laying down tracks with auto/manual punch in/punch out fixes then your in business. I read the manual online before I received the product so when it came it was very easy to use. Some menus are less intuitive to find but after a couple of uses there's no problem. Overall, ecording tracks and coming up with a finished product is quick and easy. Great. However I did have a problem with 60hz hum when I hooked up any of my accoustic/electric or electric guitars. I had the same problem when I tried a Zoom recorder 15 years ago. It is solvable by hooking up a house ground to the unit. The manual says to secure it to a screw in the back. I didn't have much luck with that so I ended up using the outer ground of a phone plug plugged into one of the unused channels and tied that to earth ground. (Make sure you know what your doing if you try that). The hum was completely gone; quiet as a mouse. SD cards are a nice touch over hard drives for reliability (although I haven't had a problem with my Boss 10 track hard drive). I've owned the Zoom for about 6 months. I bought a soft case for it and I treat it very carefully so I'm probably not the one to comment on how durable it is under normal circustances. Though the sliders and buttons seem like they will last. Your general opinion of this product. I would recomend this to any wanting 24 tracks, drum track backing and effects for an unbelievable price.

Very well! I expected a lot less for this price! Glad I was surprised! It is so portable and easy to work with! It sounds so natural and clean! I love the built-in mics! They sound as good as my Zoom H2, and it is perfect! So easy to get ideas down fast and clean. Ease of monitoring wet, while recording dry. Simple. I gave it four stars on the ease of use only because the drum looping takes some figuring out. The recording side of this is TOO EASY! It is natural and clean! Mic simulators are great to my ears! Stereo mics on acoustic guitars... heaven... Only had it a month, but the knobs, switches, and faders feel solid. No hard drives to break! Your general opinion of this product. Where has this been all my life!? I love it! It is a "10" in my book!

I think this unit will satnd the test of time. It is incredibly small and thin for how much power it packs. Made of a hard plastic coating, but it feels very strong. Buttons and Faders and strong and smooth. THE BEST: 24 tracks, looping capabilities, ease of use, quick navigation, oh did i say 24 tracks? Very easy to operate, functions are logical and within an hour i had recorded 12 tracks, EQ'd effected, mixed and mastered. Great sound, crystal clear, plus the effects package has Zoom Noise Reduction which I have always liked. Not sure yet, only had it 2 weeks. Your general opinion of this product. The R24 is ALMOST perfect, but as for a bang-for-buck rating, this recorder stands alone. CAVEATS: The R24 does not have MIDI capabilities. The R24 does not have digital inputs or outputs, only 1/4" TRS outputs. Other than those two things, this unit is perfect for a home musician studio.

Plastic stuff, so be careful. Zoom gear has been hit/miss with me. You decide. One serious flaw is the lack of MIDI jacks. What were you thinking, Zoom?? Easy to use, with or without the manual. Sounds great. N/A Your general opinion of this product. It's just an average piece of gear. I feel it's not quite finished yet due to the lack of MIDI.

I believe the design is near to flawless. Construction is all plastic, so if I buy a travel case for it, it will be one with lots of padding. Zoom products seem to hold up well. I've owned a number of them. 24-bit recording, 24 track, w/onboard drum sampler, USB 2.0, very small foot print (extremely portable), nice drum samples, and no hard drive to fail? All for $500??? Hard to choose among a bunch of great features! The manual is adequate. Luckily, the interface and controls are pretty intuitive. Within an hour I was recording my first tracks. Fidelity is very good (24-bit at 48.1 kHz) Too new to tell. Your general opinion of this product. Zoom hits one out of the park again
