Randy Jenkins seemed destined to play music. His mother said that even while in the womb, "Every time the drums started playing, the baby would knock back." As Randy grew, his father noticed he kept a steady beat and all he talked about was "dums". So at eighteen months old, Randy got his first drum set. He started out with lessons from his neighbor, and in 1989, at 9 years old, Randy got his chance to be the full-time drummer at the Tabernacle of Prayer. The Pastor, Dr. Eloise L. Young insisted that her son Daryl give Randy a chance. Randy took to Daryl and followed his every move, becoming like a sponge, soaking in every aspect of music and ministry.
During the next fifteen years, Randy would make vast musical strides and acquire numerous achievements. He studied with a host of music teachers and attended the Westchester Conservatory of Music in White Plains NY. In high school, Sharon Greene-Dansby, one of the school’s music teachers took a special liking to Randy and made high school palatable by providing him every opportunity to exercise his musical gift. After graduating in 1997, Randy went on to SUNY Purchase College. While attending SUNY Purchase, he developed razor sharp skills and an intense understanding of the power of music. His growth was exponential.
Randy has worked with numerous artists and producers in both gospel and secular music. He has performed on and produced albums, commercials, television cues, and film scores. Some artists to note are Donald Lawrence, The Clark Sisters, Bishop Michelle White-Haynes, and Milton Vann, to name a few. He is also the music director for the off-broadway production of "Nativity, Birth of a King" which appears in Manhattan every Christmas season.
Randy has had extensive experience with musicians and pastors. Seeing the plight of both, and understanding both facets of ministry, he seeks to help bridge the gap between pastor and musician. He does this through the medium of Zamar Consulting where he is the Founder and CEO. In addition to his work as an arranger, producer, and musician, he currently serves as an Elder and the head of Music, Media and Worship Arts at the Tabernacle of Prayer where his music mentor, Daryl L. Young is now the pastor.
