Brace Audio DWG 1000 Digital Wireless Guitar System
more detailed product information

To accurately demonstrate the clarity of this wireless system, we setup this comparison between the DWG 1000 and a 21 foot Monster Rock Guitar instrument cable. In this test we used the exact same signal path consisting of a Shure SM57 connected directly to a Digidesign MX002R interface.

Each sample features a clean/slightly overdriven guitar along with a distorted guitar. See for your self how this Brace Audio system stacks up.

"seemed like the tonal harmonics were better thru the DWG 1000..."

I am contemplating throwing away every guitar instrument cable I own. I recently had an opportunity to try the Brace Audio DWG 1000 Digital Wireless Guitar System on for size and I was impressed. About the size of a deck of cards and weighing even less, I was... to say the least... skeptical. "How could anything this small and light be any good?" Sound equipment of this caliber should weigh the equivalent of a boat anchor. Well I am prepared to eat those words with a little pepper and some steak sauce. Mmm steak sauce... but I digress. This unit has an amazing sound.

Alright short and sweet, I tried this unit out running it thru a series of different effects and amp settings from clean to full out metal shredding destruction then did it all again with a high quality instrument cable and found I could not tell the difference. In fact it may have been my imagination but it seemed like the tonal harmonics were better thru the DWG 1000. I will leave you to decide that for yourselves. Both units are battery powered with the ability to use an AC adapter so if you're running out of outlets... 'nuff said. I also tested out its range after a fashion by taking my guitar from my music studio on the 2nd floor of my house and seeing how far it would go before drop out. I got down stairs thru the living room past the kitchen and to the top step of my basement before it cut out. There was no hiss and no crackle, just quiet waiting until I got back in range. If you're looking for a wireless system and want the full range of sound and not have to pay a lot of money for it, then the Brace Audio DWG 1000 is just what you’re looking for.

"Brace DWG 1000 is by far the easiest wireless system I have come across..."

I have used many different wireless systems over the years and the Brace DWG 1000 is by far the easiest wireless system I have come across. When they say plug-n-play, they mean it. All I had to do was add AA batteries, connect the cables and switch on the units. There was no channel surfing or other adjustments, it just worked.

From an audio perspective, I was really curious to hear how this 2.4G Hz digital system matched up with some UHF systems that are priced much more. I was astonished at the clarity of this system. I didn't hear any compression or brittle top end that one associates with other wireless systems. The only drawbacks (if you want to call them that) that I ran into was the size of the body pack was slightly thicker than I am used to but when it was clipped to my guitar strap, it was light enough that I didn’t even notice it. I would also have liked to see a locking connector on the body pack, although this was made less of an issue because of the integrated notch in the belt clip that allows you to loop the cable through it securely.

When all is said and done, the DWG 1000 is really a front runner for me in any price range.

"running all over the house inside and out without a single drop out I was definitely impressed..."

I have to admit, although I love the freedom that you can get with a guitar wireless system, I've never been completely happy with the different systems I've used. It was always something... loss of the bottom end, too thin, too much noise, or just a guitar tone that fell flat with no life to it at all. On the never ending quest for the ultimate guitar tone, I have created an audio chain that includes several stomp boxes along with some rack devices. Although I get a great sound, as you probably know this can create signal loss and undesirable noise. Good cables can definitely help, but the last thing I need is signal loss/noise from a wireless system, therefore, doomed to be chained to my amp forever. However, after hearing good reports from the other techs I was looking forward to trying the "DWG 1000." After plugging the system into my rig I fired it up and everything worked perfect. I was surprised how easy it was. Just insert the batteries, plug in and go. After getting over the initial feel of freedom, running all over the house inside and out without a single drop out I was definitely impressed. The next test was to go back and forth with a cable, then without. I did this in several spots of my audio chain including directly into my amp. I have to say I could tell no difference. My tone was perfectly preserved. I was very impressed! Finally a wireless system that is completely transparent. I spent at least 4 hrs of continuous playing without any battery issues, so I don't see a problem making it through a full night. I would like to have seen an on/off switch, rather than the guitar cable activating it. Much like a pedal, as I tend to get absent minded and would forget to unplug both units, therefore running the batteries down. The DWG 1000 seems to be sturdy and light enough, but most importantly, this baby has it where it counts!
