Product Description

Delivering world-class customizable sound, the Discrete 8 Microphone Preamp provides eight console-grade Class A mic preamps with discrete transistor design and precise digital gain controls. After extensive research, the Antelope Audio FPGA engine is designed to allow engineers to choose in real time from a plethora of classic model preamps.

Antelope Audio’s DISCRETE 8 Thunderbolt & USB Interface comes complete with eight console-grade, six-transistor, fully-discrete design preamps; 121 dB dynamic range conversion; and rock-solid clocking. It includes all Antelope Audio’s premier realtime FPGA FX, including authentic models of iconic gear from BAE, Gyraf Audio, LANG, and many more besides. Being based on Antelope Audio’s AFX platform — a rapidly expanding hardware modelling engine — enables DISCRETE 8 to add Accusonic microphone and preamp models (maintaining the advantages of digital control and repeatability of gain levels), guitar amps, transformer and tube effects alongside a huge selection of classic vintage gear to its recording roster. Thanks to Antelope Audio’s all-new ConnectAFX plug-in, all are accessible via any DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with workflow that just… well, works!

When working, DISCRETE 8 users can create custom presets to easily and speedily set up various tracking scenarios. The front panel features a large monitor volume knob and dedicated HP knobs for each output. On top of that, the talkback microphone is also built into the front panel right above the TBK (talkback) button. Better still, talkback can be engaged via the assignable FOOTSWITCH on the rear, in the EasyPanel software, or via the iOS/Android app. Meanwhile, metering is viewable on the front panel display, inside the EasyPanel, and also via the remote app.

As a 26-input/32-output audio interface with eight analogue inputs (A1 through to A8), eight analogue outputs (on a standard 25-pin D-SUB connector), a pair of MONITOR outputs, two REAMP outputs, and a pair of headphone outputs, with additional digital connectivity courtesy of S/PDIF IN and OUT alongside dual ADAT I/O, DISCRETE 8 was developed after extensive research of legendary microphone preamp circuitry. Console-grade, fully-discrete preamps were hand-designed to offer world-class sound, and Antelope Audio’s powerful FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) engine can transform those already expensive-sounding Accusonic preamps into several classic units via tube-, transformer-, and FET-based circuitry… and all in realtime!

This makes you sound like a pro!

Product Review

I was actually only looking for a professional modeling mic that can do high end mic modeling in realtime and and by doing research Antelope had what wanted and more. The Discrete 8 audio interface had a special bundle deal with the "Edge Solo" mic I wanted. I'm so happy I got this. So pleased with the sound of the mic and the modeling settings. Regarding this interface, men it sounds amazing, and it has 8 fully console grade mic preamps and super high end quality converters! It turn my home studio into a beast. It comes with the basic fx realtime great sounding vintage EQ's, Compressor, Guitar Amps plugins . I bought 8 months prior a fast Motu interface that I was very happy with and was not planning to buy a new interface, but the Edge Solo modeling mic combo with the Discrete 8 couldn't be beat. If you are looking for that console sound and great modeling mic options this is al you need.

A little quirky, but incredible sounding interface

Product Review

Preamps and sound clarity are amazing, 5 stars for that. The authorization and control panel scheme is a bit quirky, but functional. The routing, once you wrap your head around it, is extremely flexible. One thing you have to realize is that the control panel is logging into the Discrete 8 over TCP/IP. That sounds weird, but you are making adjustments in the device itself, it's not just settings in an app. The last settings used remain on the device, including all of your routing, even if you turn off the computer and power off the device. For me, coming from Presonus Studio 192, this makes my life much easier, I can leave my furnace, er I mean workstation off and still play with my other gear thru the interface. ADAT, you can use all 16 channels even with the workstation off. You can control the device with the buttons up front, however it's limited. That said, all your mixer volume levels are stuck where you left them until you go back in on the computer. Should've had RJ45

Excellent Interface and incredible converters, Very Revealing

Product Review

after trying various interfaces over the last few years I think I've settled for the dynamic range and clarity of Antelope. I suggest trating a room and getting this interface before upgrading you monitors as this interface seemed to upgrade my monitors.
