Product Review

If you're looking at this product or goes without saying you're probably a hard rock and metal fan. I own Custom Shop Gibsons, have owned hundreds of guitars from PRS, ESP, Fender and on. I wanted something for my heavier playing needs and I've been around long enough to say I've seen Pantera Live many times and I still love the look of Darrell's ML's and his music. I loved the feature set with the bound body, neck and headstock, Floyd 1000, quilt is a nice touch etc but I questioned the pickup choice. The demo online does nothing for illustrating the metal capabilities and if anything made it sound bad to my ear. I rolled the dice expecting to maybe like the guitar and then need to upgrade pickups. I'm here to tell you, I don't often write reviews but this thing blew me away. The Duncan Custom pickup is aggressive, plenty of lows, mids, harmonics but with clarity and note separation. It smokes the Dimebucker and it can chug while easily doing your lead work just as perfectly. Using only a Bogner Red pedal into my Laney head and 2x12 cab I got convincing Pantera, Metallica, Slayer and other heavy tones without fizz and fuzz. Palm muting is tight, single note passages have weight and surgical precision. The finish is flawless, zero issues with sharp frets, dead spots. Setup is perfect. I was skeptical of the Indonesian manufacturing but I can say it's on par with any Japanese made high end guitar I've ever owned. Plugged in and after my "quick test drive" realized I'd been playing for 3 hours. It is amazing. Don't let the Dean demos fool you. This does heavy in spades. Might not do classic rock well but if you're looking at this I'm pretty sure you aren't after Lynyrd Skynyrd now are ya? P.S. I literally received the one AMS has pictured online. I can confirm the tops look as nice in person as they do online. Better even as they have movement and depth. Buy one. You won't regret it.
