Product Description

The Digitech Vocalist Live 4 is THE low-priced solution for vocalists looking to get accurate vocal harmony on stage or in the studio.
The Vocalist Live uses guitar chord analysis to build the harmony structure, not the main vocal, so it is much simpler to use. It tracks what chords are being played and creates a harmony chord in that key. Genius!!

The VL4 also has an integrated mixer. Just plug your vocal mic and guitar into the inputs and plug your PA and guitar amp to the outputs. Simple as that. Easy stomp-box operation activates or deactivates the harmony processor. Same goes for the built in digital effects- stomp on/stomp off. An unbelievable amount of Bang for your Buck.

A surprising number of songs fool other harmonizers because these songs just do not work with a single key/scale setting. In fact, any song that has the same note sung over two different chords (for example, a C sung in the melody over a C maj / F maj chord sequence) is going to confound conventional harmonizers.

Vocalist Live uses breakthrough musIQ technology to directly analyze the output of any electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar (no special MIDI guitars or hex-outputs needed). Then it generates the correct vocal harmony. For example, if you are singing an A over the chords that are generally found in the key of G, Vocalist will harmonize with a C. But, if you then play an A major, Vocalist will shift to the C#...because like any good harmony singer, it listens to the guitar!

Hook Up Diagram

With musIQ, forget about the technology, just sing and play! Skip complicated programming and having to analyze each song chord-by-chord; just follow these steps.

  • Plug in your microphone and guitar;
  • Pick a 3rd or 5th-above or below¬≠ harmony preset;
  • Sing and play and when you want harmony, just step on the footswitch!
Patent-pending musIQ technology combines new Note Detection algorithms with state-of-the-art Harmony Generation. The Note Detection section analyzes complex guitar waveforms and determines which notes in each chord are critical to accurate harmony. This information is then fed to an advanced harmony engine that creates harmonies consistent with both the singer’s melody and the underlying guitar accompaniment.

This totally new, musically-intelligent hybrid of traditional chordal and scalic harmony modes means that Vocalist Live musIQ harmonies stay true to not only the overall key and song scale, but also localized variations due to chords that are not part of the global key. You have never heard anything like it!

    Rethink this purchase
Your general opinion of this product.
I think the overall sound going to your PA or amp is overly busy, resulting in a processed sound that drastically affects your tone.

    Band in a box
Your general opinion of this product.
Overall I was really impressed with how far Digitech has progressed when it come to the harmonies. They used to sound so processed and automated. Not anymore. People have told me that the vocals in the band have really improved, HA.

For the price ( I bought a "B" stock - MUCH cheaper than list! ) it is a fair deal - depends on your application.

My new dream pedal for LIVE gigs!!!
Your general opinion of this product.

    QUALITY:
I have owned a number of DigiTech products and they have always been very reliable and the quality has been good. I don't see or expect this to be any different. I can say though that I was very surprised with how very light this was compared to other DigiTech products of the same size (i.e.: GNX3000). But I fully expect this to last as long as I choose it to. I tend to take pretty good care of my gear, and so I really expect this unit to last (even out on the road).

    FEATURES:
The features in this unit really helped me kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I was just on the verge of buying a good acoustic guitar processor with XLR outs to help with my live setup, and not only does this function as a very good Vocal Harmony processor but it also is a very good acoustic guitar processor and DI box. So this is a real 5 out 5 for me. I really get into items that can help me reduce the amount of equipment that I have to deal with or drag to a gig. So

at last help for the tone deaf...
Your general opinion of this product.

    QUALITY:
this processor is pretty lightweight. mine has worked great right out the box but i'm only using it for studio applications. i dont know how well it would stand up to heavy road use

    FEATURES:
first of all i can't sing, the pitch correction effect on this thing is amazing. the harmonys are very good i only gave 4 stars because i wish it had a volume pedal or at least an on/off switch

    EASE OF USE:
i started right up without reading the owners manual. very intuitive. if you've used a guitar processor before you'll have no problems with this thing

    VALUE:
compared to some other (more complicated) vocal harmonizers on the market this seems like a bargain. i do worry about its durability but so far so good

    SOUND:
the vocal effects and harmony effects sound very good. it has a nice selection of reverbs and delays as well as some modulation effects. i dont use any of the guitar effects so i cant reall

    Great Product
Your general opinion of this product.

    QUALITY:
Overall, it seems to be made well. The only thing I would worry about are the control knobs. They look as if it would be easy to break them

    FEATURES:
I have not had the VL4 but for a few days. The harmonies are amazing. I am still working on using it as a vocal processor for lead vocals but the harmonies are great right out of the box.

    EASE OF USE:
To simply use the presets is very easy. I was playing with them after 5 minutes of taking it out of the box. It is easy to set up. However, if you are a tweaker then you will have to spend some time with it.

    VALUE:
It seems a expensive but then if you compare it to other products I guess the price is okay.

    SOUND:
Overall, the harmonies are great. You will love this thing. I have not used it in a live performance but the main thing I would watch is in overusing it.
