Product Description

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Green Day’s Dookie album, MXR announces the MXR Green Drive! It captures both the sound of both amps Billie Joe used in a single pedal so that you can dial in your own versions of that famous Dookie sound. We borrowed both of Billie Joe’s amps, and the MXR team carefully analyzed all the sonic qualities that make them sound so darn good. After much analysis and A/B testing, our engineers rebuilt both amps from scratch in pedal circuit form and fit them into a single housing. The High Gain and Clean Gain sections each have their own controls, while the Blend control allows you to mix them together just like Green Day did in the studio. If you want some extra scoop in the midrange of the overall output signal, just hit the Scoop switch.

The Dookie Drive isn’t just for Green Day fans—this totally unique pedal provides a full harmonic range of overdriven tones for a playing experience that is full of depth and dimension.

Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar tone on Green Day’s groundbreaking album Dookie sounded dirty and punchy with the perfect amount of articulation to express the musicality of his fast, melodic riffs. He got that sound by running his signal through two heavily modified amplifiers—one scooped with a ton of gain, and one with a well-defined midrange. When it came time to mix the record, the band blended the two signals together in different ratios to match the vibe of each track.

MXR Green Day DD25 Dookie Drive Features
  • Get the dirty, punchy overdrive sound Billie Joe Armstrong used on Green Day’s Dookie
  • Captures the tones of both of Billie Joe’s custom amplifiers in a single pedal
  • Blend the different circuits together for a harmonic range full of depth and dimension
  • Unique circuit design built from the ground up by the award-winning MXR team

Great sounding pedal, disappointing finish

Product Review

I love the way this pedal spounds- it really nails Billie Joe's tone. It's also very versatile and can do anything from Green Day to classic rock to metal. The only thing I don't love is the finish on the pedal. It's not quite as nice of a finish as the prototype that was shown at Winter NAMM 2019 and on all the promo videos- that's the only thing that keeps me from writing a 5 star review.

Versatile Drive Pedal!

Product Review

This pedal is great for that modded Marshall sound Billie Joe is so famous for, but it really is capable of more than just snotty punk rock. The real gem of this pedal is the blend knob, where you can dial in your ideal amount of crunch, or saturated distortion. The gain knob to me sounds best around the 11-12 o’clock setting and the tone between 12-1 o’clock. I prefer mids in my sound, so I don’t use the scoop function often. It does add to the versatility of the pedal for those looking for a Marshall type gain regardless of the ties to BJA and Green Day. So far it has played well with all types of pickups and done well with a clean to slightly crunchy tube amp. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a unique higher gain Marshall style pedal!

Classic Dookie Tone in a Box - and more!

Product Review

This pedal is both versatile and exactly what any Green Day lover should get. The Dookie tones are easily findable in the pedal and sound almost exactly like the album - it's really pretty uncanny. As a bonus, this pedal is versatile enough to shape your own tone very easily. 10/10.
