Product Description

This gorgeous guitar is one of the most distinct signature models Epiphone has ever made! The limited edition Lee Malia RD Custom Artisan was designed in collaboration with Lee Malia of Bring Me the Horizon. Utilizing the iconic RD body shape first introduced in the 70s, this axe exudes a great vibe and attitude. A Gibson USA P-94 single coil and 84T-LM humbucker pickup, vintage style Artisan inlay, and custom gigbag with hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity put the finishing touches on this superb guitar!

Epiphone LE Lee Malia RD Custom Artisan Features
  • Designed with Lee Malia of Bring Me the Horizon
  • Rare Vintage 70s era RD design
  • Gibson USA P-94 and 84T-LM humbucker with coil-splitting
  • Artisan inlay and gold hardware
  • Custom gigbag and hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity
A New Sound for A New Generation
The original RD line of guitars and basses were first released in the late 70s as a Research and Development series that combined cutting edge electronics with classic style. It’s a fitting design for Lee Malia, who has emerged as one of the leading guitarists of his generation for his work in the pioneering pop and metal band Bring Me the Horizon.

Like Lee’s classic Les Paul Artisan, the new Ltd. Ed. Lee Malia RD Custom Artisan features Malia’s favorite Walnut finish with Ivory and Black binding on the body and headstock along with an Artisan floral inlay in pearloid on a smooth Torrefied Composite fingerboard. The Mahogany body has a Maple top to add bite to the tone. The Mahogany neck has an easy-to-play 1959 Rounded ‘C’ profile with a 24.75 inch scale length. The black traditional clipped ear headstock also has floral inlay with a pearloid Epiphone logo in 60s era typeface with a Lee Malia signature inlay on the back.

Gibson USA Pickups with Coil-Splitting
To get his distinctive tone, Lee Malia prefers the combination of a sensitive P-94 single coil pickup for rhythm and a powerful Gibson 84T-LM humbucker for solos. In between the two pickups under the pickguard is a Dummy Coil that cancels the hum when in single-coil mode. Classic TopHat knobs with metal inserts control neck and bridge Volume and Tone. The bridge volume pot also serves as a coil-spitting control (via a push/pull switch) so the humbucker can also be used as a single-coil pickup.

Epiphone Rock Solid Hardware
Lee Malia’s Ltd. Ed. RD Custom Artisan features stylish gold hardware including premium 14:1 ratio die-cast machine heads with tulip buttons plus Epiphone’s road worthy exclusive non-rotating, heavy duty output jack with a metal output jack plate. Set up and intonation is easy thanks to the classic combo of a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece. The three-way toggle switch is on the upper bout. A custom gigbag and a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by Lee Malia are also included.

Lifetime Warranty
The Ltd. Ed. Lee Malia RD Custom Artisan comes with Epiphone’s Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson’s legendary 365/24/7 Customer Service. Vast improvement over the Gibson original
Product Rating

Product Review

Owned an original '79 RD Custom between Les Pauls in the 80s, was a dog of a guitar tuning and balance wise. Don't see many of those these days. This Epi features a lot of things my Gibson should have at price point that Gibson should have considered issuing the original. Pleased with the split coils and the pick-up combination. The design, inlays and binding beat my old RD Custom hands down. Looking forward to a lot of years of service from this instrument.

Very solid Amazing sounding and playing guitar!

Product Review

Bought this on a wim. Was looking for a Solid metal shredder that can also do well with blues and rock. Was not disappointed with this one. Plays like butter, The frets and neck feel great and make pinch harmonics scream for day. Guitar is very heavy like an older LP. No neck dive which is nice. Will be playing this thing for a while. Definitely would recommend for just about any time of guitar player.

Fretboard - Torrified Wood

Product Review

Guitar is stunning. Got it for the rare shape and the good price. I am more of a hobbyist than anything, and I don’t consider myself a pro-player, but one thing that stood out for me was the fret board, it felt weird. I had to go back and research what the fretboard was cause it really felt different. It says “Torrified Wood”. For me, the fretboard felt like some kind of wood/plastic composite, especially when I was doing some bends. But one thing is for sure, I’m keeping the guitar.

Crazy awesome for the price!

Product Review

So much guitar for the price. Nice pickup instead of crappy cheap sounding ones. frets are smooth--no rough edges. Also, the 'RD' is a rare body design to obtain.

A great idea for a guitar.

Product Review

I'm not sure why this is not as popular as it should be. You wont find anything close to it for the price. Unique electronics offer plenty of tone options. Good for clean, overdrive, and full throttle satanic gain! Much lighter than it looks. Neck feels like a Dean ML or Cadillac. Mine came set up good from factory so I didnt make any adjustments yet. Good quality construction decent hardware and electronics. No scratches, dings, or blemishes in the finish. Come with truss rod tool, factory maintenance manual, strap locks, bumpah stickah, signed certificate of authenticity, and a gig bag. Only wish I can find a hard shell case. Good bang for buck. If you like the look I say get one

Great guitar!

Product Review

I have been wanting one of these for a long time. I finally purchased it and it was honestly a lot better than i imagined. This is my first Epiphone, I own Gibson, so i was expecting a little less. Boy was I wrong. Out of the box this thing was perfectly setup and ready to go. The pickup combination paired up with the coil splitting is a wonderful set and gives so many tone options. The finish was perfect. I was also concerned with play ability while sitting down, it was no issue was so ever. I've had this thing almost a month now and my only complaint is a hardshell case. I wish one would of came with it, the gigbag is not very protective and this is a very uncommon body shape. Overall i am extremely pleased with this and will consider more of the Epiphone signature models.

The guitar is well worth the effort and money.

Product Review

I have only had this guitar one day but I am very happy with it. The only negative thing is the tuning machines are not good on this guitar so I am taking off one star off. One of them will not turn and the others are very lose and don't hold tuning well. I read and watch the reviews on this guitar and already knew that the tuners would probably be no good. I order a set of Gotoh SG381-04 magnum lock-trad tuners which should fit without any drilling or modification to the guitar. So be ready for that. The guitar is beautiful and sounds very bright. It is large! 40.5" long and the body is 18.5" lone and almost 15" wide. The only hardshell case I was able to find that would fit it was a Coffin Extreme Guitar Case. The gig bag does not protect this guitar and is very cheap. The guitar is well worth the effort and money.
