    Product Description

Epiphone continues its historic Masterbilt series with the new Epiphone Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME acoustic electric guitar. The legendary J-45 round shoulder dreadnought has been the driving power behind decades of classics in every genre--rock, pop, and country. From Hank Williams to John Lennon the “J-45” has been the go-to guitar for songwriters and rhythm guitarists. Epiphone’s first Ltd. Ed. reissue of the "The Workhorse" J-45 earned it a “Mark of Excellence Award” from Guitar One magazine and now the Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric brings two legends together for the first time!

Epiphone Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME Acoustic Electric Guitar Features

    • Solid Sitka Spruce top
    • Solid Mahogany back
    • Solid Mahogany side
    • Mahogany neck
    • Shadow Sonic Soundhole
    • Epiphone Limited Lifetime warranty
First released in June 1931, the original line of Epiphone Masterbilt guitars made a big impression on musicians and heralded the first great era of acoustic guitars. Today, the line of Epiphone Masterbilt instruments continues that reputation around the world.

As with all Masterbilts, the Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric is an ALL SOLID WOOD instrument featuring a solid Sitka Spruce top finished in a Vintage Sunburst Satin finish. The top is supported by hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces and is set off by Mahogany kerfing along with a Rosewood bridge and a bone saddle. One of the great attributes of a Sitka Spruce top is that it gets better with age--and playing time--so play your AJ-45ME a lot! The 2015 AJ-45ME’s historic sloped jumbo shape contributes to the guitar’s mighty tone, booming bass, and mid-range projection. The Rosewood bridge features a vintage classic 1.69” bone nut and the top has 5-ply binding and a tortoise style pickguard.

The Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME has solid Mahogany back and sides, just like revered vintage models. The hand-shaped neck is also made from solid mahogany with a 1-piece heel. The neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint and hide glue, and the neck has a standard 24.75” scale. Like all Masterbilts, the neck has a classic SlimTaperTM D profile. The Rosewood fingerboard features pearloid dot inlays, a 14” radius, and 20 medium jumbo frets.

While the 2015 AJ-45ME sounds great "unplugged," it really comes alive when plugged-in, thanks to Shadow's state-of-the-art Sonic preamp system with the revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup.

Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the Sonic preamp features an easy-access volume control with Treble and Bass EQ controls. There's also a "phase" switch that instantly cuts feedback without affecting tone. The NanoFlex pickup is the only pickup that senses both the vibrations of the strings and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously. So, the sound is truly "acoustic," combining accurate body and string tone with percussive attack. It's like having a microphone mixed with an under-saddle pickup!

Due to active amplification directly at the pickup and 100% shielding of the entire system, there is no signal loss and no "hum" created. A battery indicator LED turns on when the battery is low and should be replaced within 30 minutes. The preamp is powered by two 2032 lithium, 3V batteries and the complete system is extremely light and weighs far less than ordinary 9V systems. A premium Shadow output jack is incorporated into the endpin jack, and the entire electronic system is covered by Shadow's 5-year worldwide parts and labor limited warranty.

    Best out-of-the-box experience ever!

What is your opinion of this product?
After being disappointed by a few online acoustic guitar purchases over the years, to say I was being cautious is an understatment. Afterall, there can be & often are major variations in tone & playability, even from high-end makers' models. After reading countless favorable online reviews and listening to online video/audio demos, almost all of which had flaws with presentation & recording techniques. Even with this, I as able to hear something I liked & wanted. So, I decided to order the Epiphone AJ-45ME. It exceeds my expectations! Keep in mind, this is just out-of-the-box, tuned up & tested (often) over the last 5 days. To me, the most important aspect of any guitar is the intonation. (I don't care what a guitar sounds like if I can't change from one chord to another without sounding like it's out of tune.) No problem here; all first position chords sound true. (Even the dreaded B string when switching back & forth from D to E major chords!) This holds true at least for the first 7 frets and I just don't play much above that. Plus it does very well with a capo on any of the first 5 frets. I rarely find it necessary to go any higher. The tone is special; the low end is quite pleasing... not boomy but puhchy. The mids, while present, have somewhat of a scooped & smoothed sound. The highs are crisp, somewhat subdued & even a bit dry... just as I feel a round-shouldered short-scaled dread should be! (Think early James Taylor.) The narrow nut width & slim taper neck works well for me. But if you have large hands or thick fingers, it may not be the right choice. Also, the neck is a 14" radius. Most capos seem best suited for 15"-16" radius necks. I insist on placing the capo's edge directly on the fret - where it should be! My G7th Performance II works fine, but my Keyser doesn't get along with it well... just something to keep in mind. The Epiphone AJ-45ME isn't just a great guitar for the price, it's a great guitar, period!

    Great guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
I just received this 2 days ago and it is surprisingly fantastic. I was looking forward to a well-built good sounding guitar for a good price but I was surprised at how good the guitar is built and how good it sounds. It's got a very clean build inside and outside cosmetically is 99%perfect with just two very minor cosmetic flaws where the fretboard touches the top of the instrument but that's just me being picky. After playing for an hour or so the tone changed dramatically. It is mellow yet the bass is very strong, I don't have a Gibson to compare it to but I did have a couple guilds and it held its own next to guitars that are several years old. In fact I think this epi had a much meatier side than the guilds and this is only 2 days old, you can still smell the glue and finish. Very cool. Ahhh the finish, a lot of people seem to hate it but I was surprised that it looked so good, I also think it's going to make the guitar sound better over the years however it will show every little Nick, scratch, sweat mark and little fingerprint you put on it but that only adds character to the instrument. Overall I think it's an incredible value considering they use hide glue quality tuners a decent electrical package and build it obviously with quality in mind I think it's a winner.

What is your opinion of this product?
I have been waiting over a month for this baby and they keep pushing the receive date back. Nov 23/16 now Dec 8! They said they could substitute another similar guitar but I have no doubt THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE! ( unless they want to ship a Gibson J45tv), and for some reason they say that's not possible! HURRY UP AMS, Times a wasting!

    Magnificient Guitar!
What is your opinion of this product?
I bought this guitar from AMS...came on time and fully hunidifed to 50% ...this guitar is a dream to play, and it sounds close to the J-45 in feel, play, sound and tone...for $1700 less than a Gibson J-45. Fit and finish were perfect as was the action and set up out of the box. The only negative is the dull lifeless top SUNBURST matte finish....the tops dull matte finish is easily enough to make you NOT buy this guitar. However I refinished it myself by hand buffing the poly matte to a gloss. I give this guitars sound and build a full ten. I give the tops dull matte sunburst finish a zero. ....If you can live with a dull matte sunburst top, go for it. If you can not live with a dull black painted top that reflects absolute zero light, hold off or you may regret it. It is a very good guitar. It is a real bad looking top finish.
