Epiphone LE Inspired by 1955 Les Paul Custom Guitar Features

    • Mahogany body
    • Mahogany neck
    • Gibsons USA Soapbar P-90 pickups
    • Ebony fingerboard
    • Certificate of authenticity
    • Hardcase included
The Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Inspired by "1955" Les Paul Custom Outfit is an historic reissue of the “tuxedo” Les Paul that Les designed to be the most beautiful electric guitar ever made with a striking ebony finish with gold hardware that would not only look great with a “tux” but would also convince skeptics that the new—and controversial--“solid body” electric guitar was a refined and classy instrument.

This guitar has the same profile of 50s era Les Paul Customs with a mahogany body in an aged gloss ebony finish and a 5-layer (black &white) pickguard. The mahogany neck has a 50s style rounded “C” profile and is glued deep into the body with Titebond glue so the entire instrument resonates as a single piece of wood. The top of the body has 7-layer ivory and black color binding while the ebony fingerboard has single layer ivory color binding. The neck has 24.75” scale length, a 14” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and vintage style split diamond pearloid inlays.

    Gibson USA Soapbar P-90 pickups
The Ltd. Ed. Inspired by "1955" Les Paul Custom Outfit is powered by Gibson USA Soapbar P-90 pickups with gold pole screws. P-90 pickups are recognized as the most powerful and versatile single-coil pickups ever made and were Les’ favorite style of pickup for his personal Les Pauls. Each pickup has individual tone and volume controls with black “Top Hat” knobs with metal pointers. The 3-way pickup selector switch has an amber colored toggle cap.

    Heavy Duty Hardware
The “1955” Les Paul Custom Outfit comes with Epiphone’s heavy-duty non-rotating 1/4" output jack with a square jack plate, a gold LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and gold Epiphone "Deluxe" machine heads with an 18:1 ratio on a split dovewing headstock with the Epiphone logo in pearloid. The dual action truss rod has a 2-layer black & white cover with "1955 Les Paul Custom" in white. A vintage style hard case and certificate of authenticity case are included.

    Great Guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
I've always believed that the right Les Paul for me would come along someday, and this is it. I bought this guitar from American Musical as a scratch and dent special for $200 off retail, and I can't find a blemish on it. Yes the finish is not glossy, but I like that. I was hoping it would look just like the pictures and it does. The P-90s are a great sounding pickup, and the ebony fingerboard is really nice, fast, and smooth. The neck is a bit thicker both in width and depth than I am used to, but doesn't seem to hamper my playing at all. I've played it a lot since receiving it earlier in the week and have experienced no hand fatigue whatsoever. A smaller handed person might find it a bit large. Its marketed as a great rock guitar, but I find that it has a really nice jazz sound on the front pickup with the treble cut a bit. I did try it with some overdrive dirt, and it sounds okay, but it doesn't scream like my Les with humbuckers does. The sound, when set to front pickup only, is kinda like a telecaster on the front pickup, but warmer and fatter. Great guitar. I have been playing guitar since 1975. I have owned (still own) Telecasters, Stratocasters, Gretsch Archtops, 335s, and this guitar holds its own with all of them. It will definitely be a goto guitar for me along with my MIJ '52 Tele reissue. I would pay full retail for this guitar and I expect it to appreciate in value over time. As with most Epiphones, its a lot of guitar for the money.

    Finish is NOT gloss!
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar met or exceeded my expectations in all categories except for the finish. The literature clearly states the finish as gloss black, but a more accurate description would be matte or flat black. If you can live with the finish, you will be very happy with this guitar.
