Product Description

A gorgeous guitar that pays tribute to Johnny A! It is beautiful to look at but wait until you play it. Epiphone presents the Ltd. Ed. Johnny A. Custom Outfit, the premier signature archtop by renowned guitarist, singer, and bandleader Johnny A. Featuring Johnny A’s custom double-cutaway design in a Sunset Glow gloss finish, plus Gibson ’57 Classic humbuckers, Ebony Fretboard, Bigsby® B70 Vibrato, and hard case.

Johnny A, Living Legend
For over two decades, Johnny A. has cultivated a reputation as one of rock n’ roll’s supreme guitarists and bandleaders. And his custom archtop, which features a sharp double cutaway along with its unique sound hole design, has made Johnny A. one of the most easily recognized players working today. Now, Epiphone presents Johnny A’s first custom signature archtop for the “House of Stathopoulo” in a beautiful Sunset Glow gloss finish.

Flame Maple Top and Ebony Fretboard
The Ltd. Ed. Johnny A. Custom Outfit features a thinline style semi-hollow Mahogany body with a beautiful Flame Maple top finished in Sunset Glow. The Johnny A. Custom is easily recognized by its double cutaway and features modern non-script “f-holes” with a matching black pickguard. The body of the Johnny A. has 5-layer white and black (pure white/black) on the top and 3-play binding on the back. The Mahogany neck has a Custom “C” profile with 3-ply pure white and black binding. The Ebony fretboard includes Johnny’s unique pearloid inlay and has a 12” radius with 22 medium frets and 1.69” nut. The bound headstock has an Epiphone logo in pearloid along with a custom "Johnny A." in pearloid.

Gibson 57TM Classic Humbuckers
The Ltd. Ed. Johnny A. Custom Outfit is powered by Gibson '57 Classic Humbuckers, which are based on Gibson’s legendary hand-wound “Les Paul Standard” humbuckers from the late 50s. Today, those rare pickups are recognized by collectors by the black “Patent Applied For” sticker on the back, applied at the factory. Today’s new Gibson 57TM Classic humbuckers are made with the same Alnico II magnets as the originals (plus a reproduction of the “Patent Applied For” sticker!) and are wax potted to keep down noise and feedback at high-volume. Gibson 57s also include vintage style enamel-coated wire, nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers, and 2-conductor braided wiring for a complete vintage experience without the vintage price tag. Controls for the Johnny A. are standard Volume and Tone pots for each pickup with Gold "top hat" knobs with metal pointers.

Bigsby® B70 Vibrato and Solid Epiphone Hardware
The Johnny A. Custom features Epiphone’s legendary rock solid hardware including an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge and a classic Bigsby® B70 Vibrato along with gold nickel hardware, an Epiphone Heavy-Duty Epiphone 1/4" output jack with an all-metal jack plate, gold pickup covers, and Epiphone "Deluxe" machine heads with a 18:1 ratio. A hard case is included.

Lifetime Guarantee
The Ltd. Ed. Johnny A. Custom Outfit comes with Epiphone’s Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson 365/24/7 Custom Service

So glad I bought this guitar!

Product Review

The same Johnny A guitar by Gibson is insanely expensive. This Epiphone was a fraction of the price, for pretty much the same guitar, with some wood variations. First impression after I removed the guitar from the shipping box was the case. Beautiful, heavy-duty, molded case. Very impressive in and of itself actually. Upon opening the case and my first view of this guitar? Wow. It's red glossy finish shines, and the Bigsby Tremolo bar, which is American made I believe, the real deal, stands out folded in or open. The neck is all about playing and the set up has been left the way it came, with no complaints at all. The 57 Humbuckers are kicking, and the overall tone of this guitar reminds me of an older Paul I had back in the 80's. Only much lighter. This guitar is killer on both leads and rhythm and fingering is easy. For a semi hollow body arch top, the feedback is very controllable and not at all overbearing. It even came with a little plaque with Johnny A's signature. Cool.

Very nice guitar for the money

Product Review

Quality is excellent, I was concerned about it being made in china, but I cant find any issues with fit and finish, as most guitars it needed minor setup, and I installed a liter spring in the bigsby as its a bit on the stiff side.

Not just another pretty face....

Product Review

This guitar arrived in a fantastic sturdy leather case. The aesthetics are, as you can imagine, gorgeous and breathtaking. Binding everywhere, beautiful flame veneer, gleaming gold hardware, all the qualities your eyes could ask for. Then I picked it up and was surprised. The weight is much lighter than I expected. The neck was thin with a gentle C that was consistent and comfortable. The setup needed a bit of work, but this is the case with every epiphone with a Bigsby. A bit of work on the nut and the grooves in the tune-o-matic’s saddles got the vibrato returning to pitch like a champ. After an hour of playing I realized that despite the numerous other more expensive guitars I have played, this glorious instrument was my favorite of all. The Gibson classic 57’s are the perfect pickups for this beauty, crisp and balanced. The balance of the pickups was very obvious, and lent a certain flexibility to the middle position of the 3 way that is missing in my Gibson Les Paul. Outstanding!

I't was well worth the wait.

Product Review

This guitar was on back order for the longest time but I'm glad I waited. The pickups sound incredible. That classic Gibson sound. I have a 69 Gibson ES, it sounds real close to that classic ES. Very impressed. The Finger board and fret work are top notch and the binding on the neck and head stock add a touch of class. The sunset glow finish over the figured maple top looks absolutely beautiful. The Bigsby takes some extra time to restring but with a little practice I became quite proficient. Oh and it stays in tune too. The gold hardware dresses this guitar up, and the position markers on the pots are a nice touch. I play this through a JC 120 or a Super Champ depending on the gig and get a clean clear warm sound but with a step on a pedal I have a dirty sound close to my LP. Even with distortion these pickups have a very soulful sound. The guitar came with a hard case that fits perfect and It too has gold h-ware. I had to wait for 6 month for mine and I'm so glad I did.

A great guitar

Product Review

I bought this to use on my solo blues and jazz solo gigs. The fit and finish is great, the neck feels great, the finish on the neck doesn’t feel like a normal Epiphone Les Paul or Dot, but more like a Gibson 335. The only thing I had to do was put a softer aftermarket spring on the Bigsby. The stock spring was way to stiff for my taste. It’s a great guitar! Thanks AMS!

Excellent guitar at any price

Product Review

My Epi Johnny A is a fantastic guitar. The neck and fretwork are great, the finish is almost perfect, the Classic 57 pickups sound fantastic. I really like the combo of PAFs and 25" scale, too. I have owned a lot of Gibson and Epi electrics and this one is as good as the best Gibson. Once I got it set up, it became my number 1 instrument; I sold my Gibson LP standard and haven't regretted it a moment. And every time I play, someone comes up after the set to comment on its appearance. This guitar raises Epi to the level of industry standard builder. Let Gibson try to survive as a "luxury brand" -- Epi has taken their place as supplier for the working musician.
