Good guitar, good game, amp is... a bonus?

Product Review

I figure you pay $40 for a good way to stay motivated. It's hard to get ahold of a working game code from Gibson, but once you do the Rocksmith game is very entertaining. It has made 3 hours of practice seem like 20 minutes. The guitar case games are a very good tool, a way to make boring technique practice into fun games with levels and high scores. Castle of the Chordead is very much Typing of the Dead-esque and I would play it more if the game had better note recognition. And that's the bad side. Some bendy solos and chord based songs have a hard time registering and will not recognize no matter how perfectly you play. If you buy some better pickups etc it's supposed to help, but this is a beginner package and it works well enough. The guitar is easily worth the other $120. Plays beautifully. Keeps a tune if you "lock" your strings with a wrap. Fretboard is comfortable, action adjusts well and string changes are very simple. Overall a great beginner guitar, well worth the money. If you figure the little amp as a free bonus (like the Epiphone sticker, poster ad, and picks) then you will keep yourself from being let down. Sounds like a toy, looks like a toy, feels like a toy. Good to use as a headphone amp, I guess, but VOX has cheap options that work way better. Battery powered is nice, but you won't be able to practice more than a couple hours or so on the 9v battery it requires. Good as a bonus. Overall definitely worth it, especially to see if your children have what it takes to become little shredders.

Love it !!!

Product Review

This package is great. I've been wanting to get into GuitarSmith for some time now. Getting a Explorer Pro plus an Epiphone battery practice amp at a low affordable price made it a no-brainer. I've had a full size Gibson USA Explorer for a while now, which I love, but I must admit that this China made import is pretty well designed and assembled. Wish me luck in my quest to improve my playing...

It's a amazing starter.

Product Review

The best beginner electric guitar for my son. He had a acoustic guitar he played occasionally, but when he got this and hooked up the software to his laptop he was hooked. Combined with a sharp explorer body and some decent pickups hes always playing

Very nice guitar for an amazing price

Product Review

Saw this years ago, but it disappeared from the catalog. So when I saw it again, I got it as soon as I could.Been playing for fifty years, no use for all the paraphenallia they throw in for the beginners pack, guess it's all cheap but serviceable. The guitar itself is easily worth twice the price. The fabled Explorer body in a downsized version is lighter and less clunky than the giant slab of mahogany on the originals. Basically, this is a Les Paul of a different shape, sounds and feels good. Best setup I have seen from Epiphone yet! Ready to roll, tune and play! The extra light strings and thin neck make it slippery fast. The 18:1 Grover machine heads mean there is the extra precision needed for extra light strings. Hey Epiphone, start putting those 18:1 ratio tuners on your LP Express, that's a fine little guitar that suffers needlessly from tuning issues. Unlike this PRO-1 Explorer, which is pretty much perfect, in my book.

Great beginner shredder

Product Review

I'll get the minor defects out of the way first and then rave about how much I love my new little Thunderhorse clone. Pulled it out of the box, two minor scratches on the body (which I elected to simply cover with some gloss paint, cheap fix) and with a quick tune-up, this thing was ready to play. It holds its tune well enough for thrash and heavy metal bending and squealing, and I can't get over how easily the neck and strings are working for me. I have heard that the move for these is slightly heavier (or just standard strings) and swapping out the stock pickup for something more powerful, but it will suffice on its own for learning purposes. I would worry about the extra tension on the truss rod with heavier gauges on it. Great looking guitar (I went with the Silverburst), and if you're a Brendon Small fan and can't shell out $600-800 for a Snow Falcon or Thunderhorse model, this is a great place to start. Pair it with a Line 6 Spider IV or V and use the Galaktikon preset for instant Skwisgaar-esque lead tones on those soaring legato lines!

This little guitar has big cajones.

Product Review

I can't believe that you can buy a brand new guitar as good as this one is, for so little money.I played it right out of the box!The only bad thing was the little amp that's included.REALLY bad sounding, so I advise you to pick up a cheap combo amp or something.Other than that,it's a solid guitar, and very easy and fun to play.PERFECT for beginners, or as a reliable second guitar.
