Product Description

The king of “twang” is back with a vengeance! If you’re looking for a guitar that will help you leave your mark on today’s music scene, look no further than Fender’s new American Professional Telecaster. This updated Tele exploded onto the scene in early 2017, and is a brilliant update on Fender’s classic instrument. The new model is exhilarating to play and takes no prisoners when pushed to its max. The notes seem to jump from your fingers and resonate with unparalleled clarity, making this Telecaster a monster axe that looks as good as it sounds.

The American Professional Telecaster is Fender’s newest take on its classic guitar that rocked the world of music over 60 years ago. While the American Standard Telecaster may have been “perfect” for some, Fender saw areas that could improve, and hence the birth of the Pro Tele. For the Telecaster player, the American Professional model will feel familiar, but then smack you in the face with a whole new attitude. Like its cousin the Strat, Fender’s American Professional Telecaster has a brand new pickup set and sees subtle changes to the neck, all while keeping the mojo that makes a Tele a Tele. The guitar sports plenty of traditional Tele “twang”, and fattens up nicely as you move through the pickup settings.

This guitar will not disappoint on any level as it stays true to its roots; yet will satisfy the most die-hard Telecaster player as well as newcomers to the instrument.

New and Improved
When Tim Shaw was tasked with designing the new pickups for the Fender American Professional Line, he immediately thought about the magnets. Similar to the American Professional Strat, the professional Tele’s mixed magnet configuration enables the guitar to produce high quality tones in every position. The mix of alnico magnets II, III and V are what make this Tele so special. By positioning the magnets inversely from the Stratocaster, Shaw maximized the power and response of the guitar, and accentuated the tones that give a Telecaster its signature sound. Each pickup has been specifically voiced for its own position, and similarly to the Strat, the Pro Telecaster uses the treble bleed circuit to preserve the properties of the high notes at much lower volumes. What you get is a Telecaster that captures the legendary sound that it is known for, with properties that compliment those nuances.

The American Professional Telecaster also sees a redesigned bridge for 2017. In the quest for perfect intonation, Fender constructed the Tele’s bridge with three compensated brass barrel saddles. The result is a guitar that stays in tune, and is easier to play thanks to the slightly wider string spacing that the new bridge achieves.

The new modern “Deep C”-shaped neck finds its way onto all of the new Professional models. The Telecaster particularly benefits from the fatter shoulder of the neck making chording and single note picking a pleasure. In addition, the narrow-tall frets aid in the comfort of playing the instrument.

The Fender American Professional Telecaster is not a carbon copy of the American Standard. It is the Telecaster of the future, and brings the best parts of its past along with it. .

I've played them all!

Product Review

I went to Sam Ash NYC and played every tele off the wall over and over. I recommend doing that to see what neck you like. Some are lacquered too much and sticky to me. This one is a deep C shape and I think if you dont like that you just dont like it, so try it first. Anyway... The deep C neck was THE deciding factor in purchasing this. I recently have started playing country western swing jazz again and wanted something more vintage spec'd I could bend easy. This neck also has narrow tall frets, a first for me. In the store, I kept going back to how not only the neck felt and played but how light the entire instrument was. It definitely felt like a whole instrument and not just like a body and neck randomly put together. So I ordered via 12 payments and guitar shows up in 2 days. I have played the new Gibson line and like what's coming out right now but my last Gibson experience was supposed to be amazing. Shows up with picture from the techs table and is supposed to be such a prestige. 500 dollars in modifications later, I'm writing a fender review. My point is, when this guitar arrived everything was stunning. The case is for a professional musician and honestly the best case I've ever used. The locking mechanisms on it are super smooth and intuitive. Open it and BAM! The butterscotch blonde finish is totally worth the extra money. The way the wood comes through it is a work of art. The accoutrement is awesome too and you feel like you just bought something that's worth a lifetime(fender necks are lifetime guaranteed FYI as long as it's not User error). There is nothing that feels cheap and its believable that some QC person signed off, in good faith, on this instrument. A very different experience when contrasted with the Gibson purchase made a year ago. This plays better than I remember and, for me the fretboard is lighting fast and the notes bend almost immediately to the desired pitch. Full disclosure I did NOT plug in. It has a modified blend Alnico magnet that Shaw made new for this series and has a treble bleed circuit. I like the treble bleed to lower the volume and not lose tone. When I do plug in I'm running through a keeley comp, jhs spring tank into a homemade 5 watt single ended 5e3 with a vintage voiced Alnico speaker. ;) I bought this because it was hard to play the stuff I was learning on my les Paul. This Tele is expensive but if it allows me to spend less money in the long run and play more it's totally worth it. If you're on the fence, play one. If you like it, buy it! I went to the Met the other day and saw the new guitar exhibit(worth a google). That's what I want this guitar to be like. Decades from now, worn down from playing, a work of art.

Improved quality over American standard series

Product Review

Really superb fit and finish! The action and setup were great, the compensated saddles make it intonate well, the neck feels amazing, the frets (my favorite part) feel really cool, and the urethane finish is thin enough to still allow for resonation. I was thinking about getting a 52 RI tele as an old school counterpoint to this one, but honestly, the American pro is really sufficient! I just wish it had a tinted neck and a 5-screw pickguard, but the rest of the specs more than make up for it. I had an American standard strat prior to this and was worried about getting a tele, but it turned out to be a great decision.

Rated PGG-Pretty Great Guitar!!!

Product Review

This guitar ROCKS! So many sounds can be brought our of it. I use mine for jazz, bluesy and funk! It handles all of it without a problem. The build quality is out of this world. Its easily become an heirloom piece, that I would pass on to someone if I could no longer use it. I got a blonde one and won't look back! This guitar will be with me forever!

I am dlighted with my purchase

Product Review

I own a couple of American Telecasters as well as a Strat. One is a 60's vintage and another was new in 2005. Fender has really improved on, what I consider an almost faultless design. I have relatively large hands and the change in the bridge and the resultant string spacing has made playing easier for me. I also have noticed the slight pick-up mods. It makes for a distinctive tone, that while subtle, is noticeable. Overall quality in fit and finish is superb. American Musical Supply was a real pleasure doing business with...shipment was prompt and again, quality of the product outstanding. All of my purchases through AMS have been equally flawless. I will continue to make all of my through your company. Thanks!

Possibly the Best Ever Version of the USA Tele

Product Review

Beautiful workmanship on this latest version of the "American Standard", with gorgeous woodgrain on the ash body, nicely polished frets (no sharp ends), and comfortable neck profile. But perhaps best of all is the tone; the new pickups give all the classic Tele tone in all positions, but just a touch more rich, and without the notorious "ice pick" trebliness of the bridge pickup. I also have a USA made G&L ASAT Classic, and for my money, recent year Fenders couldn't compare to the tone and workmanship of the USA G&L models. This beautiful new Fender might have changed my mind! And as always, I'm extremely happy with AMS and their customer service, and loves the convenience of their payment plan.

Exactly what you would expect

Product Review

Came in exactly as I expected, just like everything I've ordered from AMS. Guitar was spotless and in perfect condition. I've owned Mexican made Fenders for many years and have loved them, this is my first American made Fender, and I am not disappointed, worth the extra money. Everything fits and plays right, just needed a tuned up out of the box and was ready to play. Action is a bit high for me, but that's easy enough to fix, and that's a personal preference so hard to complain, although it would be nice to have the option on higher end stuff to get that taken care of before shipping it. Beautiful finish and feel, can't wait to spend some time breaking it in!
