An incredible, unique, masterfully-built Tele from Fender Custom Shop! Traditionally the ‘Blackguard’ tag is reserved for those magnificent early ‘50s Teles, but Fender has reimagined the Blackguard by asking one questions, “What if the Telecaster Thinline had been released in the ‘50s, instead of the ‘60s?” Perfect for players in search of superb tonal versatility, light weight and vintage worn-in feel, this Custom Shop guitar is a study in sonic contrast and balance, with built-in mojo and style to spare.
Here’s a chance to own a highly collectible guitar. Hand-selected by us at the invitation-only Fender Custom Shop event at 2018 NAMM, this instrument represents one of a very limited number ever made with this set of features. Perfect for players in search of superb tonal versatility, light weight and vintage worn-in feel, this Custom Shop guitar is a study in sonic contrast and balance, with built-in mojo and style to spare. Includes an engraved “Limited Edition” neck plate, Certificate of Authenticity and deluxe hardshell case.
Inspired by rare examples of Fender necks that were discovered to have a compound radius, this 7.25”-9.5” formula gives a unique feel even among vintage-inspired models. It features medium vintage frets, which are slightly larger than vintage frets and very comfortable to play. With a “10/56 V”-shaped riftsawn maple neck, this is ideal for any playing style and thumb position.
The hand wound ‘50/’51 Blackguard pickups have larger diameter alnico 3 (bridge and Alnico 5 (neck) magnets than those found in later recipes. Precision-wound with thinner 43 gauge Formvar wire and potted in shellac, these have an open, lively, full-bodied tone. This guitar uses a modified ‘51 Nocaster wiring scheme which has no tone control and a blender for the bridge and neck pickups. Select the neck pickup alone in position #3, with a special tone cap & resistor for a super-usable rhythm tone or wide open in position #2, wired directly to the volume pot. Position #1 nets you the bridge pickup alone, with volume and blend pot to mix in the neck pickup to taste.
Each Custom Shop Limited Edition instrument is only available for a short time, which makes it eminently collectible and adds to its investment value. Crafted with many features reserved only for certain artists and masterbuilt instruments, they are just what the name says they are: highly anticipated limited edition models that go very quickly.
