Gibson quality is back!

Product Review

After talking to the Gibson reps at the Dallas Guitar Show in May, I could tell that their attitude for making quality guitars was back. The lineup looked like what most customers have been wanting, the old classic Gibson guitars and ones with a modern take. After seeing them in person, the next 2 Gibson’s on my list is the Les Paul Junior and the SG Junior, both looked close to the original! Hopefully they go back to naming them correctly, a Junior has one pickup, a Special has 2 and so on, none of that Special Custom Junior Deluxe model stuff! I’ve had Gibson’s since the 70’s and seen the ups and downs in the company, hopefully they’ll be back on the “ups” for a while! Getting to the guitar I bought, a 2019 Gibson Exclusive LE Sunburst Firebird I. I’ve always wanted a Firebird I, but didn’t want to pay for an original or a Custom Shop reissue. It came with the brown Gibson case. When I took it out and looked it over I couldn’t find even the smallest flaw The frets, the hardware, the finish all looked great..The only thing I did was lower the action just a bit, but it played fine out of the box. I ran it thru my 100 watt EVH 5150iii, EVH LBX and a Marshall DSL20HR with a bit of adjustments on the amps I could get a great sound out of all of them! Tweak the volume and tone controls and it would go from mild to wild. I’ve read some people saying that the Gibson mini-humbucker was weak sounding, mine sounded almost as loud and full as a regular humbucker.. For a basic single pickup, volume-tone controls guitar, you can still get a lot of sounds out of it. It looks cool and sounds goods! It’s been my new favorite out of my 20 or so guitars since I received it.

Product Review

Excellent playability! I used to own a 1968 Firebird III, and accidentally broke the neck at the headstock. I liked the way this one feels even better. Tuners are better than the banjo tuners on the 68. (Stays in tune better) Love it!

Great tone, and playability!

Product Review

Gibson is back with this reissue. The neck is smooth and chunky. The pickup sounds amazing you can get some serious tones out of this monster. The action was a little high for my playing style. A simple adjust did it for me. Man, I can't put this thing down. My #1.

Very nice guitar!

Product Review

I fired this thing up and was impressed by the way it sounded. I compared it to a 2001 Firebird V that I have. I actually found this thing to sound like my Firebird V. Blindfolded, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. The fit and finish on the guitar was outstanding, especially for newer Gibsons. I didn't see any ripples in the finish, but I'm not sure I examined it that hard. The main difference between the two was the neck. This Firebird I has a meatier neck. It also appeared to be thinner across than the V, but that could be an optical illusion seeing how this one doesn't have binding. Didn't use a strap so I can't comment on the balance. The V is neck heavy so I'll see how this one goes. I was concerned about the wrap around tailpiece, but it works fine. Needs a setup, but very playable out of the box. My only wish is that it had period correct banjo tuners. But for the price, I can't complain. Very happy.

Great Quality Gibson Firebird.

Product Review

I have owned about eight Gibson Firebird’s or the last thirty five years, some vintage. Some custom shop. This is hands down one of my favorites I have ever owned. A true custom shop fit & finish with great balance & killer tone in that single pickup. The fingerboard is an awesome thick beautiful piece of rosewood. And the price, you’re never going to see this quality of guitar at this price range from Gibson. If you desire a Firebird this is the one you want. Pull the trigger & be stoked.
