    Product Description

Fans of the Explorer will love this limited-edition take on the classic design! The Natural finish allows the Mahogany body to shine through and imparts a great, understated yet elegant look. Gibson loads in 496R and 500T humbuckers for high-output power suitable for a huge range of playing styles. Snatch up one of these limited beauties before they’re gone!

With its angular, asymmetrical body and pointed headstock, the legendary Gibson Explorer was light years ahead of its time when it was first introduced in 1958. In fact, the Explorer was such a radical departure that Gibson produced only about 100 of the famed instruments—many of which are now highly prized collectibles selling for upwards of half a million dollars. Today, the same far-out, futuristic Gibson Explorer—reintroduced in the mid-1970s—is one of the most coveted powerhouses of screaming rock and roll.

Great guitar - plays like a dream

What is your opinion of this product?
I finally got an Explorer!! I am truly enjoying this guitar. I got a steep discount on a "blemished" model - nothing wrong with it, albeit some minor finish inconsistencies on the neck. Everything that's been mentioned regarding the PUs being hot is true... the bridge pick-up sizzles. The guitar balances nicely and isn't too heavy. Set-up nicely right out of the box, I'll probably spend some time dialing it in but for the most part it arrived ready to rock.

    Can't go wrong here
What is your opinion of this product?
Endless sustain given the enormous body shape, yet at the same time incredibly comfortable sitting or standing. Can be somewhat of an adjustment to hit the higher notes as the body isn't quite as "carved" as other gibsons are, short fingers beware. All In all great ax that isn't just a one trick pony for metalheads. Sounds amazing rolled back on my fender blackface for a classic rock/blues sound.

    My favorite guitar, hands down.
What is your opinion of this product?
The tone and feel of this guitar are unmatched. I prefer playing it over my SG and my Les Paul. Plus, who can argue with the look? It screams style and the unique shape allows for unbeatable tone and sustain.

This is THE Gibson Explorer to buy this year, especially the PLAYER! Get your Edge on!
What is your opinion of this product?
I've just bought the new Limited Gibson Explorer in natural and gold from American Musical. I believe this guitar is exclusive to AM... I've been waiting to buy a natural Gibson Explorer since they stopped availability (where I live) back in 2007. Even the 2007s were actually a brown mahogany color. Mine is colored like Korina (I can't verify if it is mahogany or Korina... just that it is bright golden like Korina). When I saw the pre-order button for this guitar, I jumped at it and worried about the budget later! I am SO glad I did. It's clear that the finish and fit is excellent. The pieces of wood in the body are nicely done, the hardware and electronics are perfect, the frets are level and feel great at the edges. Overall, it's a step above the Reissue back in 2003. WOW. Feels great and sounds great! This is definitely a buy. The standard-ish 496R/500T are perfect for harder music and even some nice easier music (jazz, new age) when you put thicker strings on and play finger-style. With a pick and some hot preamp tubes, you get a growl that needs VERY LITTLE overdrive or pedal distortion. The gain required to rock out is moderate and not cranked to full... Buy one before they are gone. If you're a Flying V fan, the mate to this is also available at American Musical.
