Product Description

The SG Original from Gibson USA brings back the look, feel, and tone of the most desirable SG Standards ever made, thanks to the use of Grade-A tonewoods, the classic Maestro Vibrola, and premium pickups. From the slim ’60s neck profile, to the trim early ’60s headstock shape and smaller ’61 pickguard, to the tonally rich and versatile ’57 Classic humbucking pickups, to the vibrola tailpiece with lyre cover, the SG Original nails the vibe of the seminal SG in every respect, bringing you a stunning reissue style guitar at an impressively affordable price. With its high-gloss nitrocellulose finish, complemented by acrylic trapezoid inlays, it looks superb, too, and offers the unparalleled playability you only get from a genuine Gibson.

BAD TO THE BONE
What is your opinion of this product?
This Guitar is EXCELLENT in every way ! Not a single complaint with the Finish, Styling, Electronics, Paint, Tuning Machines.....IT IS PERFECT ! THIS IS NOT A RE-ISSUE EITHER, I am glad to see the original 1961 "ANGEL-WING" pick-guard on it with the Heritage Cherry Paint and Chrome Tail-Piece, it is as AWESOME looking as it is sounding !! Plugged into my MARSHALL Half-Stack it has wicked SUSTAIN for miles and Tonal Clarity in all toggle switch positions..... GIBSON USA really Nailed it with this Guitar !!!

A WORK OF ART WITH KILLER TONE !
What is your opinion of this product?
This Guitar is a KILLER. The MAESTRO VIBROLA is what is 'ORIGINAL' about the Guitar and it says it in the description. The 'MAESTRO' VIBROLA IS A 100% ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE ORIGINAL, right down to the number of lines under the GIBSON LOGO on the CHROME TAIL-PIECE. This Guitar IS NOT A RE-ISSUE as someone else seems to think and nowhere in the description does it say that this Guitar is a re-issue, becaus its not ! The TONE on the Guitar is KILLER: DEEP, GROWLING thanks to the '57 Classics (instead of the '61 R & T's).The SUSTAIN is for miles. The paint finish is magnificent and the Tremolo Arm is Tight/Firm without being stiff and the Guitar doesn't go out of tune after the strings are stretched enough. This Guitar is a WORK OF ART.....the Silver Top Tone/Volume Caps are good touch and the only thing that could be improved are the GIBSON Deluxe Tuning Machines being replaced with Grover Locking Tuning Machines as my 2017 GIBSON USA 'SG' STANDARD has (original @ $1299 too !).

EXCELLENCE
What is your opinion of this product?
I bought this Guitar recently and MUST say it is AWESOME in every way. The 57 Classic Pickups, the Small Angel Wing pick-guard are perfect.... better than the ‘61 R & T pickups on the 2018 & 2019 ‘SG’ Standards. This Guitar is a LIMITED/EXCLUSIVE issue with AMS and is not even listed on GIBSON.com, make no mistakes though... it is a KILLER, has better Tone than my 2018 EXPLORER ELITE ! and the Aged Cherry Finish is Immaculate.... the Maestro Tremolo is BAD-TO-THE-BONE which holds Pitch quite well and is a HEAVY DUTY piece of equipment! AND the Engraved CHROME Tailpuece is Top-Notch as well with the Engraved “GIBSON” logo being an exquisite addition! All around this is just a Beautiful, well made Guitar that has KILLER TONE & SUSTAIN for miles ! the only imptovement could possibly be Chrome Locking Grover Tuning Machines like on my 2017 ‘SG’ STANDARD but the Gibson Deluxe TMs are just fine !

Odd Spec Choices for "Original"
What is your opinion of this product?
While I am always thrilled to see an "as new" (as opposed to the mislabeled, pre-aged "VOS" stuff) SG featuring a Maestro/Deluxe Vibrola, as Gibson did with the "original" run of the 2013 and 2014 SG "Original" models, the no-lip/long late-60's style neck joint and non-tapered-horn body looks a little odd with the small pickguard here. The 2013/2014 Original ("heritage" cherry) and Original 2 ("aged" cherry like this one) featured historically-accurate early-to-mid-60's neck joints, deeper bevels and tapered horn tips, and honestly aside from the modern nut-bushing tuners and the Nashville tune-o-matic (instead of ABR), they were literally the most visually-accurate "reissue" of an original golden-era SG Gibson has ever produced. I don't like retrogressing back to the non-tapered 70's-2000 style horns, less beveling and neck joint on this one---perhaps, if as already mentioned, they had gone with the large late-60's style pickguard, it would be much more acceptable as a "1969 reissue".

Why no full batwing?
What is your opinion of this product?
Guitar would be perfect with full batwing pick guard. What was Gibson thinking?
