It's a Gibson!

Product Review

I love the look and it plays very good. The first SG I had years ago wouldn't stay in tune. No problem with this one. It meets expectations. I've only had it about two weeks and it's doing great. I'm getting used to the extra frets which make it easier to play down the neck. The price was great!

Great axe, excellent service all at a low price.

Product Review

After many months and hours of research I made my decision to purchase the Gibson SG Special 2018.The tone from the bucker pickups is insane very gutsy.I had no idea that you could get a guitar of this quality for such a low price. Not a scratch or blemish on this beautiful instrument.Feels and plays like butter.I have been playing and collecting for 45 years and would most definitely recommend this guitar to anyone seeking a well built piece.

Light, comfortable, double-octave neck and Deluxe-style mini-humbuckers. What's not to love?

Product Review

I always assumed Deluxe-style pickups were a screw-and-spring mount thing like Firebird pickups, but someone recently had me install a pair in a guitar and I saw that they hard-mount to a plate, despite seeming like a standard ring mount visually. So I became curious about them and kept looking at this guitar back in 2018. Then as it became last-year's model and the price started coming down, my wife told me I should stop talking about it and buy one. Excellent purchase. I've been a huge Thin Lizzy fan for ages, but apparently never paid enough attention to where that tone came from. It's thin enough that you don't have to stick to power chords when you're using overdrive, but thick enough to be a lot of fun. Dead quiet, of course. Humbuckers make life so much more pleasant. The thin, "faded" finish is great. Just what I like. I always preferred the SG models with the small pickguard, so that's also a winner for me. I can't say enough positive about this one.

excellent guitar

Product Review

I was watching the price on this guitar for several months. Consistently $799. Just saw the price drop on the natural satin and had to get it. Beautiful natural wood color, great minihumbuckers, nicest gig bag I've ever seen. Great deal.

Great Blues Rock Guitar

Product Review

The SG Special is something I’ve always wanted, An SG with mini humbuckers and a Cherry finish. *The good stuff: The case is the best of its type. It has plenty of padding to protect the guitar, The guitar sounds incredible. I’ve always loved the sound of mini humbuckers. They sit somewhere between single coils and full sized humbuckers. *The bad stuff: The guitar needs a trip to a local shop to be set up properly. The action is to high even though the neck is straight, It needs a new set of strings. The existing ones are pretty much dead and tarnished. Overall, I think that once the adjustments are made this will become one of my favorite guitars!!!

Love my Gibson SG Special

Product Review

I spent a lot of time researching different types of electric guitars. My main issue has been I've had problems barring chords/holding down an entire fret and I'm almost positive it's because I don't have very long fingers. After a couple months of deliberating different electric guitars I narrowed my decision down to a Jaguar Fender and Gibson SG Special. I'm so happy I went with the Gibson SG, it's relatively lightweight (definitely much lighter compared to the heavier Les Paul models,) and I've had absolutely no problem playing barre chords now (even the dreaded F Chord!) I searched several of the "big name" websites and nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, had the kind of prices that American Musical Supply had. I was actually surprised the guitar was listed for 800 bucks since everywhere else was at least in the 950 range and up. AMS had so many options as far as payment plans and decided to do the 3 month plan on my credit card. It also came in within 3 days and was well packaged (double boxed,) and included a really nice soft Gibson case with a very soft inner lining. This is by far the best purchase I've made for any guitar and I'm definitely going to use AMS for any future musical purchases. Top notch experience overall and I'm a pretty difficult person to satisfy in general!

Get One While You Still Can!

Product Review

When I first ordered this SG I was a bit apprehensive; I had heard all about the QC issues and I saw bad reviews for this guitar on other sites. I even filmed the unboxing when it arrived in case I had to prove it came messed up somehow. Thankfully all those worries were for nothing. The guitar was set up nicely although it could've been intonated a bit better, I can chalk that up to the shift in temps during shipping. Only two strings were a bit off anyway so no big deal. The bridge pickup volume is moderately lower than the neck, which isn't a real issue and will take a few minutes to remedy. The only other issue was that one of the stop-tail posts had a bit of stain/clear coat around it. It was a tiny bit so I peeled it off with tweezers and that was that. I went into this knowing I would probably have to do some work on this instrument but I was glad it was minor stuff, and for $718 (Black Friday in July Sale!) I can't complain at all. It plays wonderfully, the pickups sound great, the tuners were solid and did their job, the finish was beautiful, and the soft case is a great value for a sub-$1000 Gibson. It's my understanding that these guitars have been discontinued. For $799 you're getting a solid American-made Gibson that, with a few tweaks, will be an amazing instrument for years to come. It's also a perfect mod platform; I've already installed a blank truss rod cover, the Poker Chip switch-washer, and a Vintage Amber switch tip to give my guitar that 1972 SG Special vibe and I plan to throw a Bare Knuckle Warpig 90 in the neck eventually and I'll have quite the hybrid. So don't think about it, just order it...you won't regret it!

Sweet tone!

Product Review

Received the guitar promptly, great looking, Action was way too high, intonation was way out, heel to body joint has a 1/16” difference giving it a “step” between the neck and body. ?? Tuned n intonated it, plays great (like an SG) Disappointing in the set up and forementioned joint. Otherwise it’s lite and “Heavy” ??

Killer tone and feel!.....and no NECK DIVE!

Product Review

This is my 4th SG, my first one is sold....the next 2 are still with me...and we have a love - hate relationship. Both quite different, and both actually are very good guitars....I’m just very picky. Now....about the latest one....Mini-Humbuckers (always wanted to try those) ...small pick guard...block inlays, satin cherry. First, NO neck dive, second ...mini-hums rule!....neck profile PERFECT! I’ve got 40 plus guitars...and at this moment, the SG Special is hands down my favorite! They just simply got everything right on this guitar...Halelujiah! ....and as always, American Music Supply made it all easy....thanks guys!

Case was better than I thought and the Guitar I have to get use to because of the longer neck but it plays great. Have to play at lower volume compared to my Fender Strat. And I love the color.
