Product Description

A collaboration between the design team at Hagstrom the Swedish band Ghost, Fantomen (Swedish for ‘The Fantom’) transports Hagstrom’s legendary playability and technical excellence into a new, edgier realm. We started with an elegantly asymmetrical solid-mahogany body to which we have joined a mahogany neck using our classic mortise-and-tenon neck joint system. Of course, since it’s a Hagstrom, the Fantomen uses our H-Expander truss rod and Resinator fingerboard, providing the ultimate in playing surface stability and optimal tonal enhancement. Together these components create an incredibly stable, resonant and responsive sonic foundation.

Sharp attack and more sustain
With a relatively thin 1 1/4/ inch (3.5cm) body, the Fantomen is beautifully balanced and surprisingly lightweight. A 25.5 inch (648mm) scale provides a slightly sharper attack and more sustain than classic 24.75 inch scale guitars. A neck joint design that provides total, unrestricted access to all 22 frets will meet the needs of even the most virtuosic player.

Immense expressive range
Hagstrom set out to equip the Fantomen with electronics that would allow for a varied tonal palette ranging from classic, vintage colors to screaming metallic brilliance. They worked with Swedish pickup guru Johan Lundgren, designer of pickups used by artists such as Meshuggah’s Martin Hagström (no relation!). Lundgren recommended two different humbucker designs: No. 2 in the neck position and No. 5 in the bridge position. The result covers an immense expressive range; from smooth, warm tones to the kind of attack and intense dynamic output that would satisfy the demands of even the most extreme musical styles. Each pickup can be split to single-coil mode by means of push/pull switches incorporated into the tone controls for even more sonic flexibility. This guitar speaks with many distinct voices.

On stage with Ghost
You can find the Fantomen on stage with Ghost. You don’t have to be a Nameless Ghoul to play it, and you can be sure the guitar available at your Hagstrom dealer is identical in every way to those on stage with Ghost!

Great Guitar
Product Rating
What is your opinion of this product?
I can't speak highly enough of this guitar, I bought the white and the black fantomen, one for my son the other for myself. Both are great guitars, being a huge fan of the band Ghost was also a plus, it's why I sought these out to begin with but was well surprised at the quality of these guitars. They arrived ready to play right out of the box, I will need to adjust string height but that's for my personal preference, nothing to do with the playability. Can't say enough for the great folks at American Musical Supply either, My package arrived on time and was packaged very well , and with having the option of the payment plan this can't be beat. So if you want a great guitar and are a fan of the band, go ahead and pull the trigger and get yourself a great guitar.

Knew it was a return before it was all the way out of the box
What is your opinion of this product?
I loved the body on this guitar from first sight. Then I read the specs and about Ghost and was sold on getting one. Got the tobacco. I rarely return items because I feel like even little things add character. This guitar's frets stuck out so far on both side that it was scraping my hand pulling it out of the box. I have a lot of guitars and this isn't playable. And they were out so far no one could convince me that it was a humidity issue or it was too dry or otherwise. And since I've read about other problems I'm not willing to give one another shot. The luthier would have to sand them down so far... not worth it. Too bad. Good looking piece.

Features of a guitar easily double the price
What is your opinion of this product?
Wasn't sure what to expect, this guitar ticked off everything I've wanted in even a custom guitar...composite neck, high output pickups, and push/pull coil splitters, with a body like an RD, and in a burst color. I got what I wanted and in spades...it's the most versatile guitar I own now...I'm playing through a small Line 6 Spider now and it sounds incredible, so you can imagine how I'm chomping at the bit to plug it into the Mesa Rectifier I'll own at some point soon!

My new favorite guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar has quickly become my main guitar that I use for both stage and studio. I really can't find a bad thing to say about it. It looks, plays, and sounds amazing. With stock pickups from Lundgren, rhythms are chunky, but articulate, and leads are clear and punchy.. The neck profile is super comfortable in your hands, and the guitar balances great on a strap. The sunburst finish looks flawless. I really can't say enough good things about this guitar. I'll be buying the white finish model very soon.

Exactly what I hoped for
What is your opinion of this product?
Huge fan of Ghost. I had my eye on this guitar for that reason but waited to pull the trigger for a while due to not being a signature guitar fan no matter who it is. I wish I wouldn’t have waited as long as I did. This guitar is exactly what I wanted. Plays so fast and smooth, looks bad ass, and sounds awesome too. For some background, I’ve played guitar around 17 years so I’ve played a few different ones in my day. I’ve played guitars for double the price that didn’t feel as nice. If you’re on the fence, jump over and buy it!

Amazing Guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
I bought this guitar blindly, hoping that it would play well. I figured since it is played by one of my favorite bands it's gotta be okay. My biggest gripe with it is the QA at Hagstrom could be a little better, one of the knobs fell off immediately because the set screw wasn't tight, using the supplied wrench fixes it right up. Also the toggle switch for the pickups won't stay in the bridge position because the ring around the switch bumps it back to center. Putting a small piece of match stick inside the switch knob to keep it from screwing down all the way did the trick, but not something I should have to do, though not enough to make me want to send it back or get warranty parts. That all out of the way, it is a very comfortable guitar, the neck is fast and easy, the tone is outstanding and it seems to have an unlimited supply of sustain. I love the way it sounds and plays. It's a great versatile guitar that will shine in most any style of music played.
