Friends - Take out your wallet, take out your mortgage, sell your car. You must get one of these! Ibanez has hit it out of the park with this one. I hardly know where to begin. A lightning-fast neck, killer pickups and a wicked cool finish combine to make this a truly beautiful instrument in terms of both looks and sound. The quality of Ibanez necks is well established so I won't waste space telling you how well it plays. The DiMarzio pups are supremely versatile allowing for everything from a nice mellow jazz tone (using the neck pickup) that would very likely please Les Paul himself to screaming hard rock sounds via the bridge pickup. I found it to be very lightweight for such a large-bodied instrument and I experienced no neck dive at all (I'm a rather slightly built person so I wear it so that it hangs at a generally diagonal angle). The hardware is good and my only complaint with this guitar is that the narrow width from front to back of the stop bar exposes the wrapped-around-the-ball-end section of the strings that will cut into the side of your hand if you are resting it there while playing. I found mine in the ‘scratch and dent’ department but it was pristine other than a small scratch in the finish on the back of the neck. Coming out of the box the intonation was off and it needed a minor adjustment to the truss rod. The intonation fell perfectly into place once this was done, and except for a minor tweak to correct the A string, it needed no further adjustments. The flame maple top is simply gorgeous. (I suspect it is a veneer but that is a minor detail at best.) Kudos to Ibanez for bringing back the original 1981 Destroyer II design. It was a winner then and it is a winner now. Okay, I’m done here. Now go buy one of these lovely guitars, right away! And don’t forget to order the case. (The royal blue interior makes the flame maple cherry sunburst finish jump out at you.) Oh, and buy some straplocks too.
