The Steve Vai Signature JEM solid-body electric guitar has been a top seller for Ibanez since it debuted in the late 1980s, gaining iconic status among musicians who value exceptional performance and style. Now, the limited-edition JEM77WDP "Woody" takes the JEM platform in a bold, new direction. It’s the wild child of the line, built from premium hardwoods that lend this axe a raw, dark-hearted look, and custom electronics that provide an unmatched tonal statement in any player’s hands.
The JEM77WDP "Woody" casts its spell starting with a walnut top on a solid block of clear-finished mahogany that replaces the basswood more typical of this line. The mahogany gives the guitar a uniquely warm, resonant tone with a little more crunch in the top end. A veneer of dusky Indian rosewood is bonded to the guitar’s top and is set off by a contrasting pickguard and matching headstock made of intricately patterned burled maple. The knobs, too, are made of wood, for an earthy, organic feel. The JEM77WDP also features the through-body monkey grip characteristic of the entire Steve Vai Signature range.
Each JEM77WDP includes a hand-finished five-piece Wizard neck assembled from contrasting strips of maple and black walnut with cold-rolled KTS™ titanium rods inside, which reinforce the neck along its entire length and eliminate dead spots for improved sonic performance. The bound fretboard, crafted from Panga Panga, features a sinuous “Tree of Life” inlay and jumbo frets finished with the Ibanez Premium Fret Edge Treatment, which makes even the most technical, up-the-neck playing smooth and effortless.
But the beating heart inside the Ibanez JEM77WDP solid-body electric guitar is a trio of Steve Vai's signature DiMarzio Dark Matter 2 pickups, which deliver eye-popping sustain and a practically unlimited range of tonal patterns. The electronics package includes two DiMarzio Dark Matter 2 humbucker pickups—one at the base of the neck, another near at the bridge—finished with an intricate laser-cut motif of interlocking gears inspired by steampunk culture. A DiMarzio Dark Matter 2 single-coil pickup with a satin nickel finish anchors the middle position, providing a full, rounded sound in a variety of rock styles.
The JEM77WDP solid-body electric guitar also features a comfortable, low-profile Edge Zero II tremolo bridge with a stud lock function for long-lasting tuning stability. All hardware is finished in Cosmo black.
Each guitar comes with a hard-shell case and Ibanez’s limited lifetime warranty.
