Product Description

Phil Collen is a longtime Jackson endorser (since 1986) and lead guitarist for one of the world’s biggest-selling rock bands, Def Leppard. Phil Collen has deftly wrung numerous classic riffs from Jackson guitars. It’s impossible to imagine the ‘80s and ‘90s rock charts—or Jackson history—without him.

Collen’s PC1 Dinky was one of the original Jackson signature instruments, and continues to stand out in modern times with its staple exotic woods and a Jackson Sustainer/Driver. New for 2017, Collen’s revered USA signature models are being refreshed to match his latest tastes and specifications.

The new USA Signature Phil Collen PC1 Satin Stain model boasts premium features including a caramelized mahogany body with 1/8” quilt maple top, bolt-on two-piece caramelized quarter sawn flame maple neck with hand-rubbed urethane gel on the back and graphite reinforcement, 12”-16”compound radius caramelized flame maple fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets, convenient thumbwheel truss rod butt adjust and licensed Fender Stratocaster headstock.

Collen’s favored H/S/S configuration is also here, with a DiMarzio DP-152-F bridge pickup, DiMarzio HS-2 DP116 middle pickup and a PC1 Sustainer Driver as the neck pickup. Equipped with master volume, master tone and intensity control knobs, as well as a five-way blade switch to tweak and refine tone, a Floyd Rose Original tremolo with die-cast tuners and satin gold hardware.

Quality instrument. Sustainer System Done RIGHT!!
Product Rating

Product Review

Aside from the fact that this is an absolute premium instrument in every way, I can also tell you without reservation after owning other sustainer guitars, that the sustainer system on this guitar is done right. In this review, I’ve chosen to write more about the sustainer system than anything else because I realize that many who are interested in purchasing this guitar are doing so primarily for that feature and I rarely see any helpful info regarding the quality of sustainer systems. So here goes! ...The other sustainer guitars I have are all limited to using only the bridge pickup when the system is activated but the PC1 allows operation with any pickup configuration chosen via the 5 way selector switch & it performs beautifully in every configuration. Others, such as the EOB Strat (which I also own) basically disable the pickup selector switch when the sustainer system is engaged which limits your tone options to only whatever the bridge pickup is able to produce. One other very important thing I feel compelled to inform buyers about concerning the PC1’s sustainer system is that it is by far the most natural feeling and fluidly responsive system I’ve personally experienced. It is difficult to describe but having much experience with sustainer systems, I can only describe it as “the feel & sound of this one seems to flow very seamlessly.” Whereas others seem to have some sort of latency & tonal separation from the normal natural flow of things between notes & bends whenever the sustainer “picks up” a note to do its job. The PC1 sustainer just “flows” very naturally, seamlessly, & beautifully. Again, it’s difficult to describe & you just have to feel/hear it for yourself to fully understand it. I’ve had friends play (particularly) my PC1 & EOB side by side and they ALL notice the same thing. The PC1 system is far superior. Kudos to the Jackson crew at FMIC! Rest assured that the PC1 is a quality instrument which is also very worthy of its price point in every other way you expect at such a price point. Once you get the action set the way you like it (because we all have our varying preferences) you will fall in love with this guitar. I own many guitars and this is definitely one of my absolute favorites. I’ve owned this for about a year now & I have no intention of ever letting go of it for any reason. Hope this review has helped someone.
