What is Profiling?
‘Profiling’ is what Kemper has named their proprietary technology that captures the sound and feel of a specific tube amplifier. In other words, the Kemper Profiler Rack doesn’t simply give you a list of static digital amplifier reproductions. Instead, profiling creates a vivid, living, dynamic and multi-dimensional image of your existing tube amp.

Profiling is as simple as plugging your tube amp into the Kemper Profiler Rack amp and pressing ‘record.’ Just insert the Kemper Profiling amplifier into the recording chain and it will do its magic. Test signals will be sent from the Kemper Profiler Rack guitar amp into your tube amp and recorded by the microphone in front of your cabinet.

You don’t even have to play your guitar. After less than a minute the Kemper Profiling Amplifier acquires the sonic DNA of your tube amp and offers you the resulting custom profile. You can then use the A/B comparison mode to compare original tube amp sound with the profiled sound for a fast and convenient way to make final tweaks to the profile to get it exactly right. Now you can take that sweet vintage tube amp sound wherever you go!

Enjoy the great profiles and rigs that come with it
They were created by professional guitarists, engineers and producers in studios all over the world. Right out of the box, you will find classic tones of studio standards as well as profiles of highly sought-after amplifiers, some costing many times the price of the Kemper Profiler Rack.

The growing library
Kemper will be working tirelessly to create new profiles for you to download for free from their website. All the profiles they create are extracted from real amplifiers and cabinets, each with a distinct personality of its own.

Create your own profiles from your own amps
If you happen to have access to tube amps, feel free to make your own profiles. You will probably feel more familiar with profiles of your own gear, than with those other people have made. If you are tracking in a studio, you should profile the guitar amps that you record with. Later, you simply take these profiles with you and know that you can recreate the exact sound of the recording, both in the rehearsal studio and live on stage.

Amp Controls
The Kemper Profiler Rack Amplifier includes the standard Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble and Presence controls that you would expect from a guitar amplifier. However, in contrast to many vintage amps, Kemper has kept the gain control neutral, so you are able to find the sweet spot of your amp, and run this optimal sound at any gain level.

Now, imagine if you could change the sonic character of a profile way beyond what’s possible with the amp itself. What if you could change the sonic age of the amp, or the bite of the pick? What if you could modify the power supply of your profiled amp in order to benefit from power sagging or be larger than life? With the Kemper Profiling Amplifier guitar amp processor, you can!

Kemper allows you to dynamically adjust key aspects of your favorite amps which would otherwise be impossible or require hardware modifications. You can do anything from minor tweaks, such as making your Marshall Bluesbreaker profile sound a bit more vintage, to more radical changes such as adding some modern high gain chunk to your vintage Fender Bassman.

Control way beyond the usual:
  • The Amp Definition parameter determines whether the Profile leans more towards a vintage or modern character. Increase this parameter to intensify the touch response of the virtual tubes.
  • The Power Sagging parameter lets the tubes breathe with your playing; damped strings will have more ‘chug,’ and clean, picked notes will cut through better when you reduce your playing volume.
  • The Pick parameter controls the attack of your pick independently of the gain setting-even through heavy distortion. This innovative parameter lets you decouple your pick sound from the natural compression of the distorting tubes and cut right through the mix.
  • The Amp Compressor will sustain the clean guitar when you play soft, but lets the distorted sound through, unprocessed, when you revert back to normal playing volume.
  • The Cabinet Voicing parameters give you access to the guts and the character of the cabinet. You can change the size of your virtual cabinet, tune the bass resonance or control the tonal character in a creative way.

It's as great as you keep hearing!
What is your opinion of this product?
I'm a vintage amp nut! I have about a dozen amazing tube amps. I got this expecting to use it when I needed decent tone fast. But when I test this against the original real amps, I and everyone else can not tell a difference. In fact the Kemper is cleaner so it usualy wins. I strongly recommend!

Awesome piece of gear!
What is your opinion of this product?
I've had a few days with the Kemper and this gear delivers. The stored amp sounds that it comes with are top end sounds. You can find the amp foundation you're seeking then tweek it to your specs and taste. The one phrase that I keep hearing about the KPA is "user friendly" and it is.

pretty good
What is your opinion of this product?
I liked it but I have been spoiled with my Axe FxII and was hoping this would sound a bit better but to me it didn't. Its not as versatile and intuitive.

Guitar or bass - This is my bee's knees! Don't let yours escape.
Your general opinion of this product.
This is the "end all" to having to try to mic my amp, record it, then recreate it live! It's very much like having a ton of the best amps at my finger tips (and the ability to trade in (or add) from 1-500 of those amps for a different 1-500 if I wish). I made a demo to try to show what it can do. Everything except the drums and kitchen sink went through the Kemper. Please check it out and realize, this is just scratching the surface. My advice, buy this today! https://soundcloud.com/patdulla/kemper-blues-demo
AMS Responds:
I've owned it for around 5 months now and I believe I will own it 50 years from now. Not one issue thus far. I'm still playing with it around 3-6 hours everyday, it's that fun and sounds unreal.
AMS Responds:
Very light, rack mount system. All the control I need is right up front for live performances.
AMS Responds:
Tone is incredible! Pick an amp profile, and there is the amp in the room with you! Not happy with the sound, tweek to your hearts desire.

Amazing!!
Your general opinion of this product.
First of all, this is NOT a modeler, it is a profiler. It is completely different and miles above all the modelers on the market. I have owned most of the modelers past and present and is in a different league as far as tone goes. The presets that come installed and the ones you create from your own amps are real copies or snapshots of the amps that were used to create the preset. i just purchased my second one (yea! two!) and there is nothing like it. I was skeptical when I first got it but after profiling several tubes amps and tube preamps then A/Bing the profile to the original, I was sold!. Imagine an entire of REAL tube amps at the touch of a button. It's that good!.
Well made rack unit. Dependable so far, no issues.
Metal.... good construction
??
not a guitar (grin)
Again, quality stuff.
Only had it for a few months but can't see any problems. Feels rugged.. keep it in a good rack.

Well worth the money
Your general opinion of this product.
The Kemper profiling amp is generally regarded as one of the best guitar modeling amps available. The added profiling feature puts this product into a class of it's own. The versatility of the product is amazing. Plug in headphones for silent practicing, plug it into a digital interface for recording or hook it up to an amplification source and play live. No need to buy or transport multiple amps. A properly modeled amp is indistinguishable from the real thing.
Kemper has done a good job. The construction is similar to other rack mounted appliances. The metal chassis feels durable. As with any appliance, care should be taken not to damage the knobs on the front face.
Plays great. No cut-outs or clipping that is noticeable with other guitar modelers. Plenty of features and options to help you shape your sound. Allows for the attachment of a midi footboard for added control.
There will be differing opinions on this because there are so many variables. The quality of the guitar, profile and amplification all factor into the sound. Personally I use a Gibson Les Paul standard with an Atomic CLR wedge speaker and it sounds fantastic. In a blind comparison I doubt anyone could consistently identify the Kemper rig versus the real amp.
Typical finish found on most other rack based appliances.
I have only owned the product for a short time. However, given the design I suspect this will last a long time as long as proper care is given. There is no internal fan that can fail so the only real concerns would be the power supply or knobs/switches. If you plan to gig and travel just make sure rack and transport the device securely.
