Product Description

Experience the vast world of analog synthesis with the Prologue 8! A polyphonic analog synthesizer, the Prologue 8 features 8 multitimbral voices. Incorporating the same intuitive interface as the minilogue and monologue, the Prologue 8 sets itself apart with a pure analog path, impeccable sound quality and an extremely attractive layout.

KORG’s analog synthesizer development in recent years has culminated in the prologue, which was designed using 11,000 discrete electronic components. Although the prologue is a flagship instrument, it still retains the inviting feel and accessibility of its predecessors.

The prologue uses a structure of 2VCO + MULTI ENGINE, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA, and 1LFO. In addition to distinctive, original circuitry, such as wave shaping to shape the oscillator’s overtones and a sync/ring switch, prologue also features a two-pole low pass filter with enhanced sharpness, drive that adds powerful distortion, and a low cut (high pass) switch. Every detail has been improved on from minilogue and monologue. Its sound covers every sonic possibility: fat basses, powerful leads, and the beautiful pads that you expect from a polyphonic synthesizer.

Newly developed multi-engine:
The ingenuity of prologue goes beyond its analog design. The newly developed multi engine is provided as VCO3, adding digital waveforms and FM. This multi engine, which is equipped with three different sound engines, can be combined with the analog VCOs to expand prologue’s sonic potential far beyond that of a traditional analog synthesizer.

Noise generator:
There are four types of noise generator, indispensable for percussive sounds or sound effects. Experience how digital filtering can produce direct changes in the color of the noise.

VPM oscillator:
The VPM (Variable Phase Modulation) / FM oscillator was newly developed for prologue. Its metallic and sharp sounds with their complex overtones could never be obtained by analog means. With 16 types of oscillator and the SHAPE knob, you’ll be intuitively guided through complex sound design. Combine these wave shapes with Prologue’s gorgeous analog filters, and prepare for sounds you never thought possible.

User oscillator:
The user oscillator section lets you load oscillator programs of your own creation. Sixteen slots are provided, and one type of morphing wavetable oscillator is built-in as a preset.

Digital effects:
The high-quality digital effects feature pristine 24-bit floating-point processing, and add a further polish to the sound of the prologue. With two effect units provided (a modulation effect and delay/reverb), you can choose from a wide variety such as chorus or ensemble, warm tape delay, or diverse reverbs. The user effect slots let you load effect programs of your own creation.

User-customization:
Open source means that the prologue’s development is ongoing. It provides 16 user oscillator slots and 16 user effect slots, and you can use the dedicated librarian software (expected to be available for downloading around early spring 2018) to create your very own oscillators and effect programs, and load them into prologue.

What types of sound will you create by combining the expanded digital oscillators with analog synthesis? You can create original programs and share code to participate in the user community. Start with sample code provided by KORG. The prologue belongs to you.

Analog comp/booster:
The exclusive VU meter is available only on the prologue-16, and indicates the newly developed master effect L.F. COMP. It’s a low end booster/compressor using an analog circuit, delivering a solid sense of presence that cannot be obtained from a simple EQ. You’ll particularly notice the difference in high-volume stage performances where maximum dynamics can be utilized.

Bi-timbral:
The prologue is a two-timbre synthesizer that lets you play two different programs simultaneously.

Real analog!

What is your opinion of this product?
I didn't really need a new synth or keyboard, but when I heard this new Korg, I knew I had to have it. I have a number of great keyboards, but none that have actual analog oscillators. I have used some classic synthesizers in the past, especially at college, like the Buchla, and Roland 100m, and sometimes miss that analog girth and drift. This Korg has it, but so much more. The 8 voice is a perfect compromise of polyphony, size, weight and portability for me. Love it!

THIS BOARD IS KING FOR SYNTH BASS!!!!
What is your opinion of this product?
I adore this synthesizer that Korg made. As a player who has and has a numerous amount of synthesizers from Korg (LAMDA, MICROKORG, MS 2000, MINILOGUE), I thought that the synth section for Korg was pretty complete; especially for synth bass. I was fortunately wrong! Upon playing the Prologue, I was obsessed with it! It didn't stop there either. I bought it! The same week I did a synth-bass cover on! Then another one, and another one! lol I didn't stop there! I've taken this with me to studio sessions, festivals, and big shows alike! I've recently used this keyboard as the main brain for my synth section for the Essence Fest, with Lloyd. I also played the Prologue with 2 Chainz at the one music fest! Long story short, This keyboard has a wide range in music where it thrives! I can even go on and on about the 4 oscillators, the wide range in wave selections, or even the fact that you can run it in bi-timbral mode to get double the oscillators. I will, however, say just to check it out!!

Exactly what I hoped!
What is your opinion of this product?
I started out with Korg back in 1990 with my first Keyboard, an M1. That was my introduction to the world on synthesizers, and missed out on a generation of the gear I grew up listening to. I now own a Kronos2 88 and a huge pile of software synths, but there was always something missing until I decided to buy an analog synth. I know they are not all the same, and had considered Moog, and Sequential, Dave Smith, Roland, etc. Something always brought me back to the Prologue, and now after some time with it, I don't think I could ever not have one. It takes the core idea of an analog synth, and the sound to go with it, and adds "multi engine". Leave it to Korg to take a great concept and make it better and modern with a programmable oscillator. As of this writing, Korg has yet to release the full kit that lets you add your own waveforms, but once it does I can only expect things to get better, and that says a lot, considering I don't even feel like its missing anything.
