Product Description

The HX Effects from Line 6 is a fully loaded, do-it-all board with over 100 of the very best effects taken from the award-winning Helix hardware and software processors! The compact, pedalboard-friendly format makes it easy to transport or add to an existing setup. Up to nine effects can be run simultaneously. In addition, legacy effects from the acclaimed Line 6 M-Series and Stompbox Modeler pedals are also included. Effortlessly edit effects using the eight capacitive-sensing footswitches, six scribble strip LCDs, and color-coded LED rings. Simply touch a footswitch with your finger to instantly jump to any effect, quickly adjust a parameter, or assign controllers.

HX Effects also offers a choice of analog bypass or DSP bypass with trails, and an industry-leading 123dB of dynamic range delivers tremendous depth and ultra-low noise. Extensive routing and control options provide flexibility in the studio or on stage, and facilitate easy integration with traditional pedalboards and amps.

Line 6 HX Effects Guitar Processor Features

  • 100+ HX effects for your pedalboard—run up to 9 simultaneously
  • Legacy effects library from M13, M9, M5, DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4
  • Capacitive-sensing switches with LED rings and scribble strips
  • Can act as the command center for your entire amp and pedal rig
HX AUDIO ENGINE
HX Effects features the same HX audio engine as Helix processors, and leverages powerful DSP processing to run up to nine effects simultaneously. 123dB of dynamic range ensures exceptional depth, responsiveness, and ultra-low noise.

HX EFFECTS
HX Effects features more than 100 of the same effects featured in our Helix guitar processors, including distortions, delays, reverbs, modulations, pitch/synth/filters, compressors/limiters, EQs, wahs, and a six-switch looper. A Legacy library of effects from the Line 6 M13, M9, M5, DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4 pedals is also included, and users can even load custom impulse responses (IRs) for stage/FOH routings and acoustic guitar body resonance.

BEHAVIORAL EFFECTS MODELING
HX Effects accurately recreates the behavior of even the most idiosyncratic vintage effects by modeling their individual components. For example, the Transtronic process emulates the unique behavior of multiple germanium and silicon components, making it possible to authentically recreate fuzz, distortion, and other pedals once considered too persnickety to convincingly model; and the Throbber is a ‘virtual lightbulb’ that mimics the decidedly nonlinear behavior of the small incandescent bulb and four photocells inside the original Shin-ei Uni-Vibe pedals that are essential to their unique sound and vibe. HX Effects also lets you load HX Effects also lets you load third-party speaker cabinet impulse responses (IRs) for stage/FOH routings and acoustic guitar body resonance.

CAPACITIVE TOUCH FOOTSWITCHES
HX Effects is equipped with eight capacitive-sensing footswitches with color-coded LED rings, and six LED scribble strips that facilitate fast and intuitive effects selection and editing. Simply touch a footswitch with your finger to instantly jump to any effect, quickly adjust a parameter, or assign controllers. Touch two switches to swap them. Touch-hold a switch to display parameters across the LCDs and see everything at once.

EXTENSIVE ROUTING AND I/O

HX Effects is easily integrated into existing pedalboard and studio rigs thanks to robust routing and control options, including parallel stereo signal paths, two assignable effects loops (stereo linkable), two expression pedal inputs, and up to four amp switching outputs. A switchable line-level input enables keyboardists, DJs, and producers to connect electronic instruments or use HX Effects as an outboard processor in the studio.

COMMAND CENTER FOR YOUR RIG
Like Helix multi-effects processors, HX Effects can act as the command center for your entire rig. Communicate with other pedals or your DAW software via MIDI DIN or USB MIDI, and control your amps via two dual TRS switch outputs—all from HX Effects.

Finally, an effects processor worthy of REAL musicians!
Product Rating

Product Review

I apologize in advance if I sound egotistical. I’m actually the opposite. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to just be real and state the facts. I’ve been a musician for over 40 years. I’ve been blessed to have owned just about everything guitar-related over the years (Guitars, amps, stomp boxes, effects processors, etc). I’ve got a great ear for tone and know what a guitarist needs in real life on stage and in the studio. The Line 6 HX Effects unit is finally the holy grail of guitar effects. I’ve always been anxious to try any new tech out there. And have been sorely disappointed every time. Tube amps and vintage effects aren’t “retro” to me. There has yet to be a modeler that truly replicated the real thing. You’re fooling yourself or you’ve never heard the real thing if you disagree. At best, they sound “close”. I’ve been a Line 6 fan since the Guitar Port and the first POD. I’ve owned just about every new and improved modeler and amp they’ve developed. And sold them within a year. I’d rather haul around a huge pedalboard and a tube amp than sacrifice my time by getting “close enough”. I currently own a Headrush GigBoard, a Line 6 Helix Rack (good enough for recording. Amp modeling still isn’t quite there), and I just purchased the HX Effects unit. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE. It’s versatile, rugged, user friendly, and spot on on about 98% of the effect models. There was no big learning curve setting it up, using the 4 cable method, and routing effects properly. It is enormously customizable. I did an A/B comparison between the HX and my pedalboard. It took very little tweaking to get the effects on the HX sounding just like their actual stompbox counterparts. Having Line 6’s unmatched effects models wired into my favorite tube amp is finally the perfect combination.

Not without its faults, but the good really outweighs the bad.

Product Review

I was running 12 pedals plus the channel switcher for my amp. I started researching switching systems, when I came across the HX Effecct. I saw a couple videos & took a chance. I had experience w/ modelers & multi effects years ago, but they all sounded too digital. So far I'm extremely pleased with this unit. It's allowed me to go from a dozen pedals to 5 and do away with my amp's foot switch. The modulations, delays, reverbs, and filters are fantastic. The analog tremolo, chorus and flange models are pretty accurate. The BBD delay repeats distort like the real thing. It's fairly user friendly (more on that in a second) and with some tweaking there isn't much you can't do with this. That being said it isn't perfect either. Some of the distortions and ODs are very similar and underwhelming (the OCD & King of Tone clones being notable exceptions). They don't react with your amp like a good analog pedal will. Also, the fuzzes leave a lot to be desired, they don't interact with the guitar volume/tone like a good pedal does, so I've added my analog dirt/fuzz boxes up front. As far as being user friendly, the unit itself is, but the instruction manual is pretty sparse. For example, it shows the cable routing for the 4 cable hookup, but neglects to tell you that you need to insert the loop in the signal, and where you should insert it. Also, a lot of the effect parameters could be confusing to someone that doesn't have experience using complicated effects. As big of an undertaking as it is, they really should have the manual scrapped and rewritten, and add an online resource on how to use certain effects; some of the synths come to mind. Petty complaints aside, I am extremely pleased with what I can get out of this thing. For the cost of 4 or 5 quality pedals, you get an entire pro level effects/switching system.

Powerful Effects Unit!

Product Review

I use this with the 4 cable method going into one of my Marshall amps and it works great providing all of the Helix effects. Really enjoying the Heir Apparent overdrive which came with the new 2.80 update. The unit is solid and convenient.

Typical Line 6 Goodness!

Product Review

I also have the full helix as well. It is really cool if you just want alot of great effects in a easy to use small package. The Helix is heavy, this smaller effects box fits in my gig bag.

Today's best pedalboard in this price range

Product Review

I play Metal, Rock and some Pop songs and for that I had a very simple setup: 1 EHX Chorus, 1 TC Electronic delay, 1 Koko compressor, 1 EHX Noise Gate and a Behringer Wha. My main issue was when dealing between changing the styles, de-engaging some pedals while engaging others made me lose time and after year I became tired of it. A friend showed me his Helix, the expensive one, and I liked it a lot, however this unit didn't appeal to me since I own an EVH 5150 III 50 W with a Marshall 4x12 loaded with Eminence and I loved this combo sound. Then I heard about the HX effects, I liked the idea. I used to own a POD in the past and I have always liked the Chorus and Delay from line6 so I give it a try. This device is just awesome, very well constructed, firm and lot of I/O. As most of the pedalboards out there, it can work as a Stompbox or use Banks with up to 9 blocks within, but the coolest feature is the Snapshots. Basically, a Snapshot allows you to have a Bank but with 4 different settings within, so I can turn the FX I want while keeping the tails from one Snapshot to another, think on coming out of a distorted solo and then getting into a clean sound with the delays fading away. It also provides MIDI control, so I am able to actually change the channels on my EVH while changing Snapshots and this is amazing. I know this is not cheap, but with all the features it provides, the HX Effects is just a beast that can't be beatten!

Crazy good.

Product Review

So,I bought the Hx Effects in an effort to clean up my pedalboard,as some of my old pedals were starting to sound scratchy, and this unit seemed to be the best one for my needs.First off,I have never heard a digital effects unit distortion I'd call usable,so I ran a comparison with my tube screamer, dunlop flanger and my holy grail verb pedal. This unit did everything those do,but with cleaner, clearer sound.I would recommend this unit ,for live and recording use.

Everything I expected

Product Review

I use this unit with my Marshall DSL40CR. I have presets for each of my guitars including both my Ovation 6 String Elite acoustic and my ESP TL-12 slim body acoustic. I can send the acoustic out to a direct box only or also to my amp for play back. I use Impulse Responses for a Taylor to thin up the electric sound the Piezo's get from the amps. It brings back some of the Bronze string decay tones to the guitar. I also control all the amp switching using the MIDI controller functions. I use the Left & Right outputs to separate the electric for the acoustic. I have this for 7 months and I am just beginning to scratch the surface of what this unit can do. I highly recommend the HX Effects if you want to continue to use your amp.

Great addition to my pedal board

Product Review

This was an upgrade from my Line 6 M13. I was on the fence between this and the full blown Helix. The deciding factor was my amp - I didn' want or need other amp tones as I'm happy where I'm at. That said, I love the pedal models in this. I still have all of my old M13 pedals that were great, but a ton of new additions as well. Setting up out of the box took minutes, the learning curve was maybe a week. It's set up now to control my amp channels in with the scene set ups. Really versatile and I feel like I've only scratched the surface. Very happy with this purchase!
