Product Description

Made in EnglandNow the tone, feel and vibe of the heralded Marshall JCM800 heads is available again - and they're better than ever! The all-tube Marshall JCM800 2203 Reissue Tube Guitar Amplifier Head is one of the most highly respected 100 Watt Marshall heads in the company's long history. Evolving from the legendary 100 Watt 'Plexi' head, it was also their first Master Volume amplifier. The very essence of simplicity, the JCM800 2203 is a one channel amp with no reverb or built-in effects. Its foolproof interface, distinctive roar and larger-than-life edge immediately set the standard by which all other rock amps were judged and it remained the industry benchmark throughout the entire 16 years of its production life.

Now it's back by popular demand and Marshall has even added a Series Effects Loop that features a true Bypass switch that takes the loop completely out of the circuit (a mod that was often added by players), thus ensuring the original tone isn't compromised in any shape or form. The Marshall JCM800 2203 reissue head is a faithful reproductions of the original, which shaped the sound of the electric guitar as we know it. The main characteristic that these amps share is their simplicity of operation and superb natural valve tone. Achieving the beautifully organic and vibrant overdrive which is their trademark, can only be done in one way - crank 'em up! The result is pure, majestic tone uncluttered by unnecessary circuitry. With solos this produces a big, round, warm, sustain, full of classic character. With chord work you get a bark and percussive attack with a natural sounding break up, which allows each note to ring out in a glorious musical crunch.

The ultimate Marshall for classic/hard rock!
Your general opinion of this product.
This is the Marshall that defined hard rock tone in the 80's. Very simple controls, just EQ, pre-amp volume (which controls gain) and Master volume (which controls loudness). Adds an FX Loop, which the originals didn't have. Don't expect any fancy digital effects, reverb, or dozens of fine tuning controls. This is a simple, raw, dynamic and organic amp with amazing tone.
Well packed right out of the box. Amp is solid, tolex covering was impeccable. Switches turn on/off with a solid "click", and knobs have a quality feel. It's a Marshall so expect the best quality.
Not applicable for an amp review.
First off, this is a loud amp, but can be controlled for band/basement levels with some tweaking. For starters, it's best paired with a JCM1960AV cabinet, not the regular 1960A. This Marshall is a "trebly" amp and needs the warmth of the Vintage 30 speakers to smooth it out. The G12T-75 speakers in the reg cab are too shrill and ear piercing for this amp at moderate volume levels. With the pre-amp at 9 and the volume at 2-3, it's punchy and perfect for a club/rock band, and nails classic rock tone (Aerosmith, Zep, etc). Adding a tube screamer or similar in front with the level dimed and the gain off will boost it even further into hot-rodded Van Halen and 80's metal tone. But the real treat is when you crank the master volume to 7-8 and (without any help from pedals) you get the most amazing hard rock tone imaginable. This is the sound of your record collection. Only issue is, when can you really play at that ear bleeding level? Best off with a good overdrive/boost pedal.
Not applicable.
Couldn't find any build flaws whatsoever, and believe me, I looked hard. Cosmetically, it's a classic look with the black/white logo.
Been using it as my primary amp for several months, both at home and gigs. Hasn't failed me yet, works perfectly as it should, but always bring a backup amp or sans-amp pedal to a gig....tube amps are what they are, and it's good to be prepared.

Your general opinion of this product.
If it wasn't for this amp I woudn't play guitar. This is the amp I grew up listening to. Everybody in the 80's used 800's. My 800 is a 1984. I traded a Marshall VS100 half stack for the JCM 800 head. We're buddies, and we each think the other one got the bad deal. Since my amp is a old one it only has one channel I had to give it a four in features. The advantage of that is I actually had to really start to play the guitar, using the guitars volume, and tone knobs. Also since it is a tube amp, I found areally killer amp repair guy. Although I've never tried the Reissue, if it's any thing like mine...IT'S KILLER

Best amp ever!!
Your general opinion of this product.
This amp is the best one I've ever used. And I've tried all brands of amps.Through sessions and gigs,it's never let me down. The simplicity of it is something else I like about it.Even with countless effects hooked up, it never sounds muddy. With this amp cranked up and an overdrive pedal hooked up, you're in tone heaven.Put an eq pedal, and you'll have glorious feedback for days.I highly recommend it above anything else.
