Product Description

A beautiful guitar with great projection, the 00L17 has a smooth neck for hours of playing comfort. A solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides are the foundation for this sloped shoulder Grand Concert model. The grained ivoroid binding and pickguard are beautiful against the satin black smoke or whiskey burst finish. Product Review

This guitar is my first Martin. I've been playing for over forty years, and have owned multiple instruments. I found this guitar by looking for certain specifications, such as a 00 body size, a 14 fret neck with a 1-3/4" nut and a sleek neck profile. Along with a quarter-sawn spruce top, 1/4" scalloped bracing and mahogany back and sides. This guitar not only fit those qualifications admirably, but far exceeded my expectations in multiple aspects, such as projection, presence, volume, with an exquisite, sweet tonality and balance. It has a lively, resonant mid-range, an articulate bass, and smooth, creamy trebles that are not lost in the mix. A fingerstyle player will greatly enjoy and admire the quick decay of each note, the fine overtones, and the chest-stirring, warm, woody resonance. The notes are clear and direct, with no muddiness or messy harmonics. The guitar is beautifully light, well-built, and an apt homage to the guitars built in the 1930's, with the exception of the wonderfully comfortable C-shaped low profile neck and the top bracing, giving it a distinct sound reminiscent of the finest smaller vintage guitars produced by Martin. The guitar is not opulent with pearl and abalone, but boasts a simple, effective sunburst, with a very thin finish that even lacks pore filler. The strength of this instrument is not in a glossy finish, or fancy herringbone binding, but in the sheer beauty of the sound. A light strum has power and depth, without grit, and fingerpicking, even at light volume levels, moves more air within the body than is to be expected from a smaller guitar. For solo work, or as accompaniment for a voice, this guitar excels at both. To say that I am very pleased with this purchase is something of an understatement. At the very least. American Musical Supply did a great job in selecting a grand-sounding instrument for me, shipping it carefully and promptly. I am certain that this will not be my last Martin, and AMS will have my business for the next one, as well.
