Product Description

The Neumann KMS 105 is The Best Hand Held Mic In The World.
What makes it the best? Incredible, open, accurate sound quality, and rugged, innovative design. The KMS 105 is fast becoming one of the most demanded handheld mics for live sound. Its Neumann heritage and incredible sound quality have made it an instant hit with vocalists and live sound engineers. The KMS 105 features a supercardioid polar pattern with a generous sweet spot while allowing very high gain before feedback. Other features include extremely low handling noise and specially-designed, no foam pop screen make it highly stage-friendly. Specs include 132 dB dynamic range 150dB maximum SPL, low self noise of 18 dB-A, and 20Hz - 20kHz frequency range. Requires 48V phantom power.

Neumann KMS 105 Features

  • Neumann sound on stage
  • Excellent transparency for vocals/speech
  • Supercardioid polar pattern with excellent feedback rejection
  • Without off-axis coloration
  • Transformerless output
  • Effective pop shielding without any side effects
  • Set includes stand clamp

Acoustic Features
The studio condenser capsule used in the KMS 105 microphones provide the basis for transmitting all the nuances of the human voice. In comparison with other handheld microphones, which operate mostly with dynamic capsules, the KMS series has a particularly high acoustic transparency, a wide frequency range and a fine resolution of transients.

The KMS 105 microphone has carefully adjusted acoustic filters and transformerless impedance converters that can handle very high sound pressure levels prevent the microphones from being overloaded even by strong plosive sounds.

In spite of excellent pop protection, sibilants and S sounds are transmitted with their natural accentuation, as is possible only with condenser microphones. Furthermore, the above-mentioned acoustic filters are designed so that the distinctive directional characteristics of the capsules are preserved even in the bass range. The filters thus ensure a very high level of feedback protection for the KMS 105 vocalist microphone when used with a stage sound system.

Electrical Features
Since vocalist microphones are typically addressed at close range, for the bass frequency response of the microphones, electronic compensation is used for the proximity effect in the respective capsules.

In addition, each microphone has an invariable, built-in high-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 120 Hz (–3 dB, measured in a free sound field). The dynamic range of the KMS 105 is 132 dB, and the maximum sound pressure level is 150 dB.

The low self-noise level of only 18 dB-A permits both microphones to be used at high gain levels without the risk of additional noise. Even at large distances, the microphones thus operate with a high signal-to-noise ratio, facilitating the freedom of movement and creativity that are important to the artist.

Due to the transformerless output circuit, the microphone signals can be transmitted even through long cables without loss of sound.

Mechanical Features
Microphones designed for use on stage require a particularly robust construction. The KMS 105 has a thick-walled metal housings, which also provide effective protection against handling noise.

The microphone headgrilles are made of hardened steel. If required, they can easily be unscrewed to permit cleaning of the interior acoustic filters.

Delivery
The KMS 105 microphone, with a matching stand clamp, are supplied in an attractive padded nylon bag that is sufficiently durable for touring.

Neumann KMS 105 Applications

  • Vocals and speech on stage
  • Announcer’s mic for broadcasting/dubbing
  • Especially suited for in-ear-monitoring
  • For feedback-prone environment

These are just some of the most common applications. Neumann recommends additional experimentation to gain maximum use from this microphone.

Best hand held vocal Mic I've ever used!

What is your opinion of this product?
Full disclosure, this mix has been on my Mic bucket list for a long time, actually since it first hit the market years ago! When I finally had the chance to pull the trigger and get one, I jumped at the chance. Not that it bothered me, but I thought it would be bigger, as it has such a distinctive look that it's always very noticeable when I've seen it on TV. And when I first plugged it in, and compared it to my Sennheiser e935 and Sennheiser MKE 4032 mics, it didn't sound as bright and I had to boost the treble a little on the Eq to match the sound. Interestingly, as Neumann and Sennheiser are connected as sister companies, the shape and design of the Neumann KMS 105 and my Sennheiser MKE 4032 are very similar looking. But once I started to use Neumann KMS 105, I noticed it made the vocals really stand out in the mix, much better than the Sennheiser mics. Highly recommended!!

Clear, bright sound, lows rolled off, great mic
Your general opinion of this product.
Super clear sounding, nice presence peak, built in highpass at around 100 hz i believe, needs no EQ for most singers, only drawback i've seen is that it is susceptible to plosives.... say compared to a Beta 87A. Not a showstopper, i've angled the mic about 30 to 45 degrees upwards instead of singing "straight in" and backed off the mic 1/2" to 1" more than usual and the plosives are much more manageable. Having said that, the KMS105 captures significantly more detail than the Beta 87A in my experience and this makes the "learning curve" worth it. I plan to buy at least one more ASAP to supplement my Shures. (Running Monster SP1000 or Blue KIWI cables into 1604VLZPRO or Roland MMP2 preamp into a DBX DDP, Rane PE17, and Lexicon PCM80 through either 20/20 BAS or Mackie SR1530's. All wired up with Monster 500 series balanced interconnects)

Wow, what a mic!
Your general opinion of this product.
I've been using the KMS105 for a few months. I admit that I was a little reluctant to buy one due to the high price but can now report that it was worth every dime. The other members of the band have commented that my vocals do sound richer and more natural when compared to the sound I was getting using a Sure SM58.

A quality built mic.

VALUE:
Pricey but delivers the goods.

SOUND:
One listen and you'll be hooked.

Soft rock, easy listening

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
Weekends and weddings since 1980

Extremely nice mic...see my comments
Your general opinion of this product.
I've have tried most mics...for the dollar it is by far the most clear and intelligible mic I've used. Also, slight nuances in vocal reproduction are possible whereas with dynamic mics just is not, e.g., humming with lips tight, whistling. Easy to EQ, smooth response throughout, and no distortion in the bass due to close proximity. A great mic.
