Dependable, versatile, and good-sounding mini-amp
Your general opinion of this product.
This battery powered bass amplifier is yet another great product from the Pignose/Gorilla guys. I've used it primarily for amplifying my acoustic-electric guitar, though, and it has been more than adequate for that purpose. An additional XLR plug-in for a microphone would make this an ideal mini-PA (hint-hint). I'm most impressed with the battery power, which keeps on going, and going, and . . .
comments on Quality: Very durable, well-made cabinet; long-lasting battery power.
comments on Features: The thing that has impressed me most is the longevity of charge the battery maintains. I've used mine for much longer than the eight hours it's rated at before having to recharge.
comments on Ease of Use: The portability is the best feature. You can take this amp anywhere (even to the middle of the desert, as I have).
comments on Value: Easily worth every cent I paid for it--dependable, portable amp for the money.
comments on Sound: Although designed primarily for a

Good sound, anywhere.

QUALITY:
I have had two of these amps for 7 years. It has never let me down. Well made, and has taken quite a beating. I use it for bass and accoustic/electric guitar practice and social events where electricity is a problem, such as the beach. One must always keep in mind, it was never designed for gigs, so just don't go there. I have two of them connected to my lap top computer stereo sound output which makes for great portable sessions anywhere. They saw use for an outdoor Easter pagent, in front of 100 people, on top of a sand dune, hundreds of yards from the nearest electricity.

FEATURES:
Holds a charge for about 12 hours playing time. It does handle my 5 string OK, but I understand 30 watts is not a gig setup, no matter what. sounds great with keyboards and guitar. One guitarist borrowed one of my HOG30s for a guitar only gig in front of 50 people, He played a Strat through it and loved it. I admit, this surprised me.

good as a practice amp, average overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I originally bought this amp for church gigs and other situations that do not warrant my bigger setups. I have been using the HOG 30 weekly for over a year now and have had to push it a little more each time I use it as of late. I use five and six string basses in standard tuning and the HOG 30 just cannot handle the low B string. I even bought a Sans Amp Bass DI to give it more kick, which worked for awhile but lately I have had extreme difficulties getting a consistent good sound out of the amp. My Korg AX30B worked well in boosting the sound also. I do like the cordless / battery feature which makes it very portable, even though the battery did go dead on me during a very important gig once. The amp works well with my four string, in a practice type situation, however I suggest getting a modulation device if you are going to attempt using it for anything other than practicing at home.
