Providing transparent and adjustable optical compression with endless sustain treble cut / boost controls, and a 'grit' control to blends in a layer of sweet harmonic distortion. The Philosopher King’s swell function provides a pick triggered volume swell effect that can be reset simply by muting or held open by continuous playing. Smooth and controllable, this 'slow gear' type effect offers variable timing from extremely fast to very slow while the fade function can be used independently of the swell and is also pick triggered.

    Decay Cycle
The decay cycle allows the ability to fade out from peak level only partially, bringing the audio down to a predetermined level, set by the hold control. The hold level is then maintained until the player releases the note to close the cycle. With the auto reset turned on, the cycle will begin again immediately, creating undulating amplitude modulation and even pulsating tremolo stutter effects at faster decay settings. With the auto-reset turned off, the player determines the exact timing for the beginning of the next cycle.

    One Shot Mode
Another new feature is the one shot mode, which causes the Philosopher King to run through the swell / fade / hold / release cycle regardless of what is played after the cycle is triggered. In this mode, the Philosopher King creates complex waves of amplitude modulation on top of the music coming from your instrument. A trigger input jack allows the swell and fade functions to be controlled by an external source such as a band mate or drum track.

Inspired by the EH Attack Decay as well as the Pigtronix Attack Sustain, the Philosopher King is a state-of-the-art stompbox unmatched in its ability to re-shape the essential nature of any sound source.

What is your opinion of this product?
I was not at all happy with this pedal. Yes it can do some unique things but the compression sucks. you cannot use other source of distortion, only the built in grit knob. You can of course use other distortion but it sounds miserable. I like to use this to auto fade in or combine the fade and the swell functions together. My tone is very much clouded by just about every function on here. But then again I have a bunk line 6 non tube amp?? I ordered a new distortion pedal and a new tube amp and Im hoping that will be a bit more pleasant. The pedal is flexible kinda but I may have paid 130 for this, instead 250 on extreme sale. Only thing I use it for now is to fade in intro for Orion. The negatives at this point, heavily outway the pros.. When my new gears comes and all the sudden its amazing I will be sure to edit my post. The first and last Pigtronix item I will buy. Sticking to EHX and ISP
