Product Description

An updated edition of Presonus' Central Station, the Central Station Plus is the ultimate studio-monitoring interface for the modern digital studio. Featuring three sets of stereo analog inputs to switch between input sources including DAW, mixer, CD/DAT/Tape player, or keyboards/samplers, the Central Station Plus offers two stereo analog inputs that feature TRS balanced connectors while the third stereo input utilizes RCA inputs with trim control for level matching of input signals.

The Central Station Plus accommodates two digital inputs via S/PDIF or TOSLINK optical optical providing D/A conversion up to 24Bit/192kHz. This allows you to monitor DAW and CD/DAT outputs through the same professional quality converter for the most accurate A/B comparison and highest quality monitoring environment. The digital to analog converter offers the highest possible audio quality with over 117dB dynamic range and ultra high quality analog circuitry.

Presonus Central Station Plus Features
  • 3 sets of stereo analog and 2 sets of S/PDIF digital inputs
  • 3 sets of stereo speaker outputs
  • Main and Cue sections with input-select switch and output-level control
  • Aux-input level control
  • Mute, Dim (-20 dB), and mono switches
  • 2 headphone outputs with dual-function volume controls
  • Passive audio path: no op amps or IC's in main audio path
  • Onboard talkback microphone and Talkback microphone input
  • Dual 30-segment, fast-acting, peak-hold LED metering
  • Includes Control Station Remote (CSR-1) Main Volume
The Presonus Central Station Plus features three sets of monitor outputs, each with their own set of passive trim controls. The monitoring section also provides MUTE, DIM and MONO switches. In addition, the Central Station Plus includes a set of CUE outputs that can feed headphone amplifiers and a separate stereo MAIN line level output.

PURELY PASSIVE SIGNAL PATH
The Central Station Plus features a PURELY PASSIVE SIGNAL PATH for ultimate sonic performance. The main audio path of the Central Station Plus uses no amplifier stages including op amps or active IC's (integrated circuits) that add noise, color, distortion, and give that pinched sound. Distortion produced by op amps and IC's also gives added ear fatigue.

Signal routing in the Central Station Plus is acheived utilzing 34 sealed mechanical relays (instead of active IC's) maintaining a minimal signal path design wherein extraneous electronics are hard-wire bypassed. Using relays ensures the most transparent signal path maximizing dynamic range, frequency range, and headroom, while minimizing noise and coloration. The Central Station Plus uses the highest quality passive components including military grade 1% tolerance metal film resistors, multi-element potentiometers and ultra-durable connectors to deliver the highest sonic performance.

Metering
The Central Station Plus features dual fast-acting 30-segment peak/hold LED's for accurate metering. The front panel of the Central Station Plus includes both dBu and dBfs scale as well as peak/hold clear switch and meter alignment switch for addtional metering options.

Talkback
The Central Station Plus has an onboard TALKBACK microphone which is routed through the CUE outputs for communication between artist and engineer. The Central Station Plus also includes a Microphone XLR input on the rear panel for use with an external microphone. When Talkback is used the CUE mix is automatically dimmed for added ease of communication.

Product Review

The Presonus central station had the best set up instructions I had ever seen, being a low tech guy this was a plus. Needed this so I could bounce from my key board to my playback CD player and works perfectly.

Like the fact that I was able to connect all my Audio Interfaces (3 in total)and monitors to the central station. Rack mounted but love the idea of the remote.

I got this for my boyfriend for studio use and he loves it. It gives him more control and flexibility between his monitors and is great quality. It was the perfect choice and a welcome addition to his equipment.

Great addition to my home studio.

Product Review

I love it for many reasons but the main reason I purchased the central station was for the flexibility. I have everything running to it...

Good value.

Product Review

Clean sounding and flexible. 5 months after installing and still functioning properly. The enclosure gets pretty warm so probably should plan to leave space for airflow in your rack. My only complaint is the volume pot on the remote has a lot of play, no audible problem with it yet, but it does not feel solid like the one on the rack piece.

Its decent!

Your general opinion of this product.

Its a decent unit. After owning a Dangerous D-Box I don't like this unit nearly as much as I did prior. For the money its ok. You get what you pay for pretty much.

Its not as rock solid as I would like it to be. It almost cheesey in its construction, particularly the buttons and knobs. Once again, you get what you pay for.

Its easy to use. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to use it. Its designed for beginners.

I like the remote unit but it too is cheesey in its construction.

The sound is decent for the money. I would not consider it Pro grade gear but good for serious beginners.

It worked. Lol!

The Meters WILL FAIL On This Unit - MASSIVE DESIGN FLAW

Not made well AT ALL. I am about to have to get my 6th unit. My studio DEPENDS on this, and unfortunately, the features and sound quality make it such that, I cannot function without this unit, however, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE BUYING IT. I wish I had never centered my audio routing infrastructure around this unit, because now, I have a work flow that has THIS UNIT as a weak link, and like clock work, the unit will go bad, predictably and reliably. Pretty bad when you can only depend on the unit GOING BAD. IF you DO buy it, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TURN IT OFF, because when you turn it back on, the METERS WILL NOT WORK. PreSonus makes such a big deal about how great the metering and calibration capability is, but, bottom line, if the meters FAIL after your FIRST SESSION, and you turn it on the next day when you come back in to work, and you've got NO METERING, THAT IS A PROBLEM!!! Design flaw, BIGTIME...

Audio quality and feature set / audio routing capability are AMAZING...Too bad the meters die after the first session...

Super easy to use...Self explanatory...Until you spend all night scratching your head trying to sweet talk, cajole, beg and pray for the meters to start working again, as you toggle the unit on and off, over and over again, hoping that by some miracle, the meters will begin working again...

Excellent sound quality...

Reliability is NON-EXISTENT. What you can RELY on is the METERS FAILING...

Your general opinion of this product.

Pretty obvious at this point what I think...Don't buy it...If I had it all to do over again, I would have done a different studio design so as to NOT HAVE to use this unit, and the INSTANT I find a unit with the SAME routing features, mountable in one rack space, so that I don't have to change my speaker and monitoring scenario, I will be pulling this unit out of service and throwing it in the river...or maybe make a YouTube video of me setting it on fire, or shooting it with my 9mm, or bombing it with an M-80 or something...SERIOUSLY!!! 5 units ALL gone bad with the SAME EXACT PROBLEM - DEAD METERS...Do we not smell the engineering flaw here?
