Huge Disappointment

What is your opinion of this product?
I received the 1st RG080 from AMS and the Channel 2 Master Volume control would cut in and out and would crackle when adjusted. AMS sent me a Return Authorization immediately and sent me out a replacement amp. It had the same exact problem. I played on the amp so my AMS representative could hear over the phone for himself the problem with both amps. Both times they heard the problem for themselves and immediately set the wheels in motion to rectify the problem. This time I requested a refund and will be purchasing a different brand of amplifier. I am very pleased with the AMS staff for their patients and assistance with the returns. Thanks guys.

What is your opinion of this product?
This is just a no nonsense power house. They don't put clothes over the speaker because it's very high quality. They don't try to make it sound like 4 different amps with all these effects like my fender 40 watt champion, which none of those sound great. The gain on the clean channel adds warmth. The emulated speaker line out is nice for recording or wherever you need to run it. Very nicely surprised by this purchase. Best in it's class. I've owned the 50 watt Marshall solid state as well. You can't go wrong with this one. I've been playing guitar for 49 years. I've run my Gibson SG through it as well as my Les Paul special with P 90's. Awesome

Can't beat it for the money
What is your opinion of this product?
Like all solid state amps, it misses the warmth, but for the money you cant beat it. Stock cleans are good. Dirty channel is versatile, and gain screams. EMG's in an Ibanez Iron label. I used my Boss ME-80 through the clean and it's nuts. Miss te 4 by 12 though.

Definitely worth the price
What is your opinion of this product?
Been a tube amp guy my whole life but they have become so expensive. Thought I'd try this one if for no other reason than it's simplicity. Never owned a Randall so I took the chance and I must say I am well pleased. It is a little noisy on the high gain channel but no more than my old Music Man, so I didn't give it 5 stars but it's not a major problem. I just plug my pedal board into the clean side and use the high gain channel for a little dirt by not cranking it. I plan on using it at my next gig. I think it's got the guts for it and yet, it's small enough that it doesn't take up half the stage or practice room. Again, I'm very well pleased and will definitely consider Randall on future purchases.

Grinnin' ...
Your general opinion of this product.
Not that familiar with Randall except a buddy had one years ago so I wasn't sure what to expect. But I'm happy to report that I'm very pleased...took only a couple minutes to feel my way around the controls to find my tone. After working a medley of song pieces I discovered I had a big grin on my face. I'm gonna keep this one for some time ...
I would say this is a quality built amp. Very neat in appearance with tight seams, firm feel of controls and tight tone. It's also quiet...nice transition from clean channel to lead...very sturdy foot switch. Yup...very much worth the money!

The new Randall RG80 is the real deal
Your general opinion of this product.
I've been through a ton of amps lately. Everything from tube combos, heads and solid state. I'm not a fan of modeling so I stayed away from those types (although there are some great tones to be had). I saw that AMS had the RG80 reissue in stock. The price was awesome and for 80 watts and a classic like this model, I figured I would give it a try. I can honestly say that this amp is a faithful reproduction of the original, only better. I know that the original had issues with the gain channel bleeding into the clean channel and that's not the case with this one. The cleans are fantastic. With the bright switch off, it has a warm, full tone across the spectrum. Almost like a Mesa Mark II (but of course, not the same). With the bright switch, this is where I was thrilled. Very much like a Twin. The drive channel is amazing, Huge tones with perfect definition across all strings. I found my amp. Thanks AMS! Now I want a second one to run in stereo with my Nova System!!!
Incredible fit and finish. Every seam is perfect and there are no rattles at high volume. The steel grille could take a slapshot and just shrug it off. The footswitch is steel and the click is nice and tight. Knobs are cool and the potentiometers have the perfect amount of resistance. The effects loop is serial and not parallel (which is great for pretty much all types of delays, reverbs and modulation). I've had amps with parallel loops and they messed with certain delays. Well done, Randall. Overall, the amp is heavier than my old Bandit 65. Yep, it's heavy but definitely mobile for gigs.
Since this is an amp, I'll just comment on the feel part. There's a good feel of "bounce back" when playing the lead channel. Not sure if that's the best description but I've had that same feel with some very good tube amps I've owned. You definitely feel attached to the amp when playing.
Tones are great. The bass boost and mid scoop switches will get you to wherever you want to go. Without them engaged, it's 80's metal with the gain high. With the gain low, it's classic rock. With the scoop and bass boost on, it's today's metal. Thick, big and powerful. (ok, I'm 44, "today's metal" probably has a name. Nu metal?? EDIT: the clean channel with an OD pedal gets you into some great blues territory. Takes pedals perfectly.
Action... it's an amp. Moving on.
The tolex is great. Not a bad seam and it's not shiny. Kind of an elephant type. Again, very high quality. Love the black hardware as well.
Just got it but I checked out the warranty. Randall gives you five years. That's a heck of a nice warranty. Bottom line, I'm extremely happy with this amp and it's staying. Looking forward to gigging it.
