Product Review

So, I used to own a TD11, then a TD12, now this TD17. I bought it to replace an Alesis DM10mk2 module, so I’m using Alesis mesh pads and cymbals with it. As expected, the sounds are incredible. I was using acoustic cymbals w the DM10, because, quite honestly, the Alesis cymbal sounds, with their e cymbals, were horrifying. The toms sucked too. Actually, 90% of the Alesis acoustic sounds suck. Here’s where it gets interesting. The Alesis synth drum sounds destroy the Roland units completely. What I’m gonna end up doing is sampling the Alesis drum sounds I like, then load them into the Roland. You simply cannot beat this feature. Rolands verbs and such also rock. The only thing I’ll miss about the Alesis is the pitched percussion, and other weird stuff it did. The Alesis pads and cymbals work just great w the Roland units sounds, so I’m back to e cymbals, and not soon enough. Roland would def benefit from spending some more time on their synthetic drum sounds in these units.
