Serato + Roland TR-SYNC Free Update Now Available!
Seamlessly add the legendary sound of Roland’s iconic drum machines to Serato DJ Pro setups with TR-SYNC update for TR-8, TR-8S, TR-08, and TR-09

Roland announces updates to its iconic TR-8, TR-8S, TR-08, and TR-09 drum machines, making them Serato DJ OSA-ready. This new functionality, named TR-SYNC, is now available as part of the latest Serato DJ Pro 2.1.1 update and allows DJs to effortlessly match the BPM of the TR drum machines with tracks playing on Serato DJ Pro. TR-SYNC lets DJs easily add their own drum loops to songs with the same Roland drum sounds used on the most popular tracks of yesterday and today, giving them the ability to flip genres, beef up classic hits, remix, and transition between songs in new ways.

To connect the Roland TR drum machine, plug the USB from the TR drum machine to the computer running the latest version of Serato DJ Pro with supported hardware, and then connect the audio output to an available input on the DJ mixer or controller. Because Serato DJ Pro takes care of the sync, DJs can focus on their performance and new creative possibilities.

Once DJs have mastered the basics of mixing and performance, adding a drum machine to the mix gives them a chance to stand out from the pack and expand their creative options substantially. DJs can layer complimentary rhythms over an existing track or use an acapella with loops they’ve created to bring brand-new on-the-fly remixes to life. Adding the TR drum sounds can make classic songs sound “bigger” and can bridge music libraries across different genres. Instead of relying solely on record pools DJs can now create their own signature edits and remixes for truly unique DJ sets.

This free TR-SYNC update is now supported in Serato DJ Pro, and firmware updates for Roland’s TR drum machines are also available.

A faithful replica of the legendary TR-808! The TR-08 brings the look, sound, and feel of the original 808 and blends it with modern convenience and reliability. The most famous drum machine is reborn.

The Boom in the Room
The TR-808 arrived in 1980 to an unsuspecting and somewhat bewildered public. To many at the time, its purely analog sound and range of tweakable parameters didn’t exactly deliver “traditional” drum sounds. It wasn’t until adventurous musicians and producers got their hands on the TR-808 and started tweaking those knobs that the world would fully realize the sonic impact it would leave on music forever. For the next three decades, the sizzling hi-hats and snappy snare, the robotic, clicky rim shot, the unmistakable cowbell, and yes, that booming bass drum, would be heard on many thousands of tracks. Worldwide hits, underground classic, and entire genres were spawned. Its influence is so deep that it’s been name-dropped in famous tracks, had albums dedicated to it and bands named after it, and even been the subject of a feature-length documentary film.

A New Generation of 808
Time has not diminished the TR-808’s influence. New genres continue to make use of the 808, with some utilizing it as the main instrument and defining sound of the style. Sure, you can use samples of a TR-808, but there’s nothing quite like the real thing. The 808’s user interface with its buttons, knobs, and switches, and the odd quirks of how the sounds interact with each other—they’re all vitally important to conjuring up that real 808 mojo. And you know it when you hear it.

The new TR-08 adds some thoughtful and modern touches to the classic formula. The sequencer has 16 sub-steps per step, so you can create detailed snare fills and intricate, rolling hi-hats. It also has a track-selectable trigger out for working with other instruments like the TB-03, SH-01A, or modular gear. An unobtrusive LED display provides finer control of tempo and shuffle. You can step-program or tap in your parts in real-time without stopping to change modes. Everything sends and receives MIDI control messages and it even supports audio and MIDI over USB.

Portable. Affordable. Authentic.
Original TR-808s are big and heavy, and their rarity makes them extremely expensive and sought-after on the used market. Because of this, many have resorted to 808 sample packs or hardware knockoffs. But there’s something about the colors and controls and, of course, the sound of a genuine TR-808 that brings home the sound of so many classic tracks. The TR-08 accurately recreates the ingredients that make an 808 so special. The interface, while miniaturized, is 100% authentic. The sound is vibrant and alive thanks to our proprietary Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology. We use ACB to carefully recreate all the details and quirks of the original hardware by modeling each analog circuit, right down to the component level.

Not only does the TR-08 look and sound the part, but it also has some modern features and conveniences. With all this beat-making power, it would be a shame to keep it shackled to the studio. After all, inspiration can strike anywhere, and drum machines are fun to play live. The TR-08 is literally small enough to take just about anywhere. It’s ruggedly built with sturdy knobs, buttons, and switches. It has several tilt options for easy viewing in various live and studio scenarios. It can be a low-latency, portable audio interface. It has a built-in speaker, and even runs on batteries for when the beat absolutely must go on. With all this power and flexibility, you may be most surprised by the TR-08’s affordable price, which puts the legendary 808 vibe within reach of just about anyone who’s ever dreamed of owning the iconic original.

Roland TB-03 Bass Line Synth
The battery-powered TB-03 is a direct descendant of the famous TB-303 Bass Line Synth. The layout and controls are unchanged, so it works just like the original. It sounds like it too, thanks to Roland’s advanced ACB technology that recreates the hypnotic liquid grooves of the magic silver box. But the new TB-03 goes even further, with several enhancements not found on the original model.

The four-digit LED display makes programming easier and more accurate, while overdrive and delay effects let you unleash a twisted, tribal wall of sound to send the crowd into a frenzy. Back in the studio, the TB-03 can send control information via MIDI or its USB port, the latter of which also functions as a 24-bit/96 kHz audio interface.

Roland TB03 Boutique Series Bass Line Synthesizer Features
  • Realistic recreation of the iconic TB-303 Bass Line synth
  • Retains the sound, character, and user interface of the original TB-303
  • Hands-on control over expressive parameters, including cutoff, resonance, envelope mod, decay, and accent
  • New features not found on the original TB-303, including four-digit LED display, overdrive and delay effects, MIDI, fine tempo control, and additional functions for pattern creation
  • Programmable via classic Pitch, Time, and Step write modes
  • Continue playing a sequence even while switching between write and play modes
  • CV/Gate outputs for controlling vintage analog gear and modular synthesizers
  • Dedicated trigger input to drive the internal sequencer
  • Highly portable for mobile music making
  • High-quality construction with metal front panel
  • Battery-operated (4 x AA) or USB powered
  • 24 bit/96 kHz stereo IN/OUT USB audio interface
  • Control information can be sent and received via MIDI and USB
  • Built-in powered mini-speaker for instant enjoyment
  • Compatible with optional K-25m Keyboard Unit
Authentic 303 Sound and Behavior via Roland’s ACB Technology
You know when you hear a TB-303—a hypnotic, tribal sound that works best in dark, crowded rooms with big sound systems. Using the same ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology from the acclaimed AIRA series, the TB-03 accurately emulates the expressive, slippery sound of its older brother, and even adds a few surprises. Saw and square waveforms are available, along with all of the rotary control knobs that help shape the 303’s unique character, including tuning, cutoff, resonance, envelop mod, decay, and accent.

New Features Not Found in the Original
The TB-03 includes several enhancements over the original TB-303. Firstly, the four-digit LED display makes programming easier and more detailed, since you now have a visual representation of the value being edited. Then there are a variety of overdrive, delay, and reverb effects that dramatically change the mood and tone of the TB-03, going from smooth to spiky to squealing. Programming patterns is also easier thanks to newly added functions that include step write, shuffle, and fine tempo control. Finally, the inclusion of MIDI and USB ports mean that the TB-03 can send and receive control information and connect easily to computer-based DAWs.

Classic TB Sequencer with Enhanced Functions
If you’re familiar with the TB-303’s programming method, then you’ll feel right at home with the TB-03. The original Pitch and Time write modes are included, along with an all-new Step mode. Pattern programming is also enhanced by the LED display, which shows the current step in the sequence as well as showing fine tempo values (such as 125.5 BPM). The internal sequencer can be triggered externally via the trigger input, and you can even switch between write and play modes without stopping pattern playback, opening up new possibilities for live performance.

Connect with External gear
The TB-03 includes MIDI IN/OUT ports and USB, allowing control information to be exchanged with other instruments and devices. This turns the TB-03 into a versatile controller, especially as you can use the CV/Gate output to control external analog gear and modular synthesizers. This level of control works both ways, thanks to the trigger input that lets external gear drive the TB-03’s internal sequencer. Once connected to a PC or Mac, both audio and MIDI data can be sent through the USB port.

Battery or USB Bus Power
Some of the best music is made away from the studio, so the Roland Boutique series runs on 4 x AA batteries, ready for when inspiration strikes. Alternatively, the TB-03 can run on USB bus power.

USB Audio Interface for Direct Recording to Your DAW
Via its USB port, the TB-03 functions as a high-quality 24-bit/96 kHz audio interface, providing a simple and reliable way of recording directly to your DAW application. You can keep your favorite settings and sequencer patterns safe too via the USB data backup function.
