    beautiful bass with beautiful tone

    Product Review

I found this bass on ebay. It is a little beat up but that doesn't affect the sound and gives it a little character. I was pleasently surprised by the sound of this bass. I have only played it thru one of my amps (practice amp) so I really can't tell how it will sound thru a bigger amp. But, it sounds GREAT thru my practice amp which usually translates to WONDERFUL into my bigger rigs. It's got some good low end without being muddy and a great hi cut thru type of sound in the highs. Not as snappy as my P=bass but acceptable. Not real versital but what sounds you get are really very useable for most gigs. Overall, one of my favorites..

Good Value in a Fine Bass

The quality is very good for the price. I can quibble a bit about the workmanship on the soldering and the body finish, but where things count -- especially on the neck and fretwork -- it's all done to high standard. One of the pickups fried out after a year, but I'm not convinced it was the fault of the equipment -- I suspect the power source I was using was the problem. Replacement was easy. I've gigged with this bass without a backup with few worries. Now it is my backup bass.

The EMGs have a nice, dark tone. The active pre-amp (master vol, vol of each pup, tone knob) lets you dial in a wide range of tones.

Great for a "modern bass" twin soapbar sound. When I started playing old school soul/R&B, I found it a little too high gain, but threw on some flatwounds with good results.

Heavier feel than a Fender Jazz (my other main axe), but not unpleasant, just different. Good solid feel. Nice, fast neck.

The overall tone is dark, smooth, and balanced. If slap is your primary style, you'll definitely want to run this through a compressor to get a snappier tone.

I found the Natural to have somewhat uneven pinstriping between the dark body and the light top, but overall the finish was even and well applied. Looks great on stage.

The action out of the box was fine. I set it slightly lower to match my personal preference, but as delivered it was set up just fine.
