Product Description

The sE Electronics X1R is suited to a variety of recording applications including guitar cabs, overhead drums, brass, woodwind, strings, commercial broadcast and voice-over. The sE X1R ribbon microphone is the new high performance passive ribbon from sE Electronics.

This state of the art ribbon element enclosed by top grade Neodymium magnets boasts some of the latest ribbon microphone technologies from sE Electronics. We have combined our traditional ribbon technology with some of the mechanical elements of our patented Voodoo microphone HF (High Frequency) extension technology to bring you a classic sounding ribbon mic with a gentle HF lift.

The sEX1R does not offer the full frequency response performance of the Voodoo VR1 / VR2 and the widely acclaimed sE Rupert Neve RNR1, but a hybrid of old and new ribbon technology which gives you all the natural beauty of the ribbon sound, but with more versatility and ease of use than the majority of ribbons on today's market.

The sE X1R also draws on the chassis and design elements of the hugely successful sE X1 Cardioid Condenser Microphone to bring you exceptional performance, and the hand-crafted capsule quality you expect from all sE mics, but at a fraction of the cost of other boutique brands.

The sE X1R really is the perfect ribbon mic for the first time project studio buyer, or a great addition of new character to your microphone collection. For more information on the sE Electronics and sE Rupert Neve ribbon mic family, visit Ribbon Microphones.

My guitar sounded great- WOW!
Product Rating

Your general opinion of this product.

Sounded great on my guitar amp, blew away the cascade!Warm but had some cool midrange, not as dark as I thought.

Pretty solid for the money, it's heavy!

Put on a stand, stick it in front of your amp...

Don't like the cardboard box, wish it had a real case.

Really good, made my rig sing! Sounded great on drums too.

Excellent for the $$

Your general opinion of this product.

Great build quality, great "fit and finish", very good sound.

The mic is very beefy and seems to be very well made.

Plug and play. It's passive, so you don't even need phantom power.

I will probably add some kind of shock mount to this (it doesn't come with one).

VERY nice sounding mic for the money! If I am being honest, I have been able to use other ribbon mics that I liked better (in a commercial studio), but those were "active ribbons", and they were way, way more expensive...I could never afford one myself. This mic is extremely affordable, and it still sounds great! I have used it on guitar amps, brass and even as an over-head drum mic (I was trying to get an "old school" sound). In all instances, it worked great. I have not tried it on vocals yet, but I could see it working as a nice mic for background vocals. If you want to add a ribbon to your mic locker, I don't see how you could go wrong with this.
