Frequency response is terrible; applying constant levels of 20 Hz to 5+ KHz in 1/3 octave steps results in radically different level indications from zero (!) to all the way into the red, with no constant level indication at any two 1/3 octave steps. Impulse response is terrible; repeated synthetic snare hits at the same exact level sometimes result in a large deflection, sometimes little or no deflection. The output resolution is half of what one would think looking at the unit, because every level step consumes two LEDs. Level controls are recessed, consisting of panel flush white plastic potentiometer shafts that must be adjusted with a flathead screwdriver. Assembly required for rack use; the rack ears are separate. Additionally, my unit was over-painted on one side, and getting the ear's tiny, low-quality screws to seat on that side without stripping them took me twenty minutes.
Pros: It's pretty, insofar as it is functional, which isn't saying much. It consumes one rack space. XLR and RCA input options. I'm not using the outputs (I feed it via XLR from an active channel splitter), so I can't speak to the pass through quality.

I just recently placed this American Audio DB Loudness Display unit in My Rack, and Yes..not only does it look great, but now I can see the output levels in All positions in the room...With two disply modes it adds a good look to My setup...Love It !!

dB levels are terribly wrong. The display is 0 dB to -57 dB, when in fact the TRUE dB level is 0 dB to -16 (sixteen) dB! Whoever designed this has no clue about audio signal levels, or, was more into making a cool looking display. Plus, frequency response below 40 Hz is not good. This is a well built compact unit that can be used with the standard 19" rack mount brackets or use without the brackets if desired. Good price too!

The American Audio DB Display MKII more than exceeded my expectations. It does more than just provide a light show. It's a useful tool to monitor your levels while you are playing a set of your favorite music. As a DJ it is crucial to have a smooth sounding set without jarring rises in volume or a sudden loss of volume. I play with a 19 inch rack-mount Rane 2016s rotary mixer that does not possess its own visual meters besides channel signal lights. Installed in a rack with my mixer, the American Audio DB Display allows me the keep constant visual contact with my sound while making my equipment pleasing to the eye. There isn't anything not to like about it. Since my purchase one month ago I can honestly say my game has stepped up.

Since I bought this display it works OK, but putting it onto rack met a very basic problem: the holes in enclosure (for fixing the rack mounting handles) were threaded for different screws than these supplied. So I had to search for other screws before I could add this equipment to my rack. It took me way more time than the whole audio setup.
