This product is a pure Beast! I also have the MPC Touch which is pretty much the same unit just a controller only. I have not used the Touch since making this purchase. If u are a beat maker tbis is for u, no additional equipment needed, if u add anything it makes the MPC that much more powerful!! There are so many features that I wouldn't dare to name. This is my traveling buddy because it intergrates in all of my DAWS flawlessly. If u dont have one, what are u waiting for, lol.

I bought this because I wanted a standalone unit on which to produce music (mostly house and hip hop). This thing can do pretty much everything you'd be able to do in a DAW, has live sequencing, great sounding on board effects and synths, and that classic mpc swing. Creating a track is seemless and intuitive, meaning you're more engaged with the music as you're producing. On top of that it has a midi in/out, multiple USB ports, a hard disk slot, sd slot, and built in audio outs so you can play shows right from the device. Overall, I can't recommend it enough.

I love the build quality and the intuitive interface. The sounds that are pre programed are fantastic but if they're not to your liking you can add another hard drive like I did and download any patch you want!

I use to use the MPC60 in the 90s, but had gotten away from the Akai family in 2000. I got lost for almost 19 years in computers and plugins land. And even dabbled with those newer hybrid mods. But when I saw the lovely beast on American Music website, I immediately got a crush! While courting the idea of owning the MPC Live, I danced with there friend over at Ableton...the Push2. I learned during that time how Akai and Ableton worked together, and I wound up selling the Push2 and settled for the LIVE.I don't have to plug up to any wall with hours of battery, and yes it does work! I can produce music in bed, at the park, in the subway and even in Peet's Coffee! I like the fact that they didn't put too many buttons and knobs on it. It's touch screen so I can still get to things fairly quick. . It fits in my backpack and I take it almost everyplace Igo. I've convinced two of my friends to get one too but it honestly sold itself. The MPC Live is a lifestyle music production device!

I ordered this thing about 3 months ago and have used it nearly everyday since it arrived at my door. One of the main things that was missing in my beat making workflow was portability. The fact that its stand-alone is simply reason enough for you to get this. The Akai Daw being $299 alone, this is one hell of a deal for a standalone controller as well as accompanying DAW?! Adding a 1tb external hard drive is so OVERPOWERED in the best way. Doing this allows me to jam pack my MPC live FULL of samples, Sample Packs, Multiple Akai Project Track Ideas. I also keep all my Expansion packs on there which again allows me to store a ridiculous amount of audio options all at my disposal at the drop of a hat!
I can also plug a midi keyboard?!
And link to Splice through wifi?!?!?
Yall need to put some respect on Akais name now. This is getting outta hand. The MPC live, to any producer/beatmaker, is simply a dream come true.

If you want an all in one workstation thats portable and can be used without a computer, or with, then this is the perfect musical instrument/drum machine you will ever need. It is really powerful as a sampler, for vocals, live clip playing, recording your own beats and playing the builtin instruments. There s not a comparable device on the market. I hear on the debates about which is better the mpc or maschine? Until maschine comes along with a standalone device like the live, it can't compete. I own both but I am tethered to a computer when using maschine. so if you want something that is more portable and easy to use the the live is what you need.

I purchased the MPC Live a few months ago to create compositions without limitations while outside of my studio. It's everything I expected it to be! With the on-board sounds (that can be expanded), internal expandable storage, USB 3 connections and media card port on the rear, this fits like a hand in a glove for mobile musicians. Whether I'm using a small midi controller or drumming away on the pads, I can rock out without being connected to a power source! The built-in battery will even supply power for most USB controller devices that draw their power from the USB port. All of my samples and custom Akai sounds are stored on a 1 terabyte SSD drive so I don't have to worry about running out of space for my files. Even if I do, I could always use the two USB 3 ports for additional sounds or file storage. (And I almost forgot, IT HAS BLUETOOTH CAPABILITY for using midi controller devices and wireless computer keyboards for writing!) If you are thinking about purchasing this unit, do it! I don't think you will be disappointed.

The MPC Live is a creationist dream. Genre content that comes standard allows for quick and quality sound production. The touch screen gives me a large display that is easy to read and responds to my selections quickly. The console connects via USB to the MPK mini midi controller and is working great. I’m having so much fun that I make two or three new tracks every time I use it. It’s simply awesome!

Thank you American musical for always shipping fast with proper packaging. I absolutely love this MPC live. I also bought the MPC X 1st but its just too big to carry around. The MPC live is just so easy to carry around. Especially if you buy the gator carrying bag, it fits perfect and makes it much easier to carry around which I also purchased with the MPC. Inspiration comes to me at different times of the day and night or at certain places besides home. I love that I can go to park or in my backyard to create beats where I seem to always find inspiration. The pads are very responsive. The sequencer is tight and on point. I had this for almost 2 months now. The only thing I wished is that the battery could last at least 12 hours or more. I can get from 5-7 hours before I need to plug it in to charge. Over all I cant complain. This MPC is perfect for mobile producers always on the go.

Computers and Daws are expanding and are great and there are so so many options and sounds , but that set up headache of playing a midi keyboard to audio interface and having your computer on set is to to complicated and space consuming.
Enters the Mpc Live grandson of Akai Mpc Hiphop beat machines its a traveling Daw and you can add all your fav samples packed in one Device and its wait for it Standalone works by itself no computer has rechargeable battery built in.
And last but not least i for one cannot write well
With so so many options i need it restrained and confined like 70s or 80s synth , theres something to limitations that breed creativity so leave computer at home and on desk start writing freely and on the road.

It's a really amazing groove box that is portable, functional, but there are glitches in the software that 1) when you convert a song to a sequence for ALS export, it'll sometimes just erase your first sequence even if you want the song->seq to be in a different sequence. 2) lots of freezing in the middle of projects 3)the mpc will sometimes refuse to shut down unless you hold the power down for 10 seconds

I've used a lot of gear over the years. From ASRs to MPC 2000XLs to a 1000 to an MV and lastly to Maschine. I integrated years ago to software and Maschine was a great tool but still had to be tied to the laptop to work. I love that the MPC Live can be used standalone. It lets me work without having to use the computer and stay in my zone and work. If I want to use some VST plugins I can hook it up and use it through the MPC software but if want to hang out somewhere and knock out a quick beat I can. The flexibility is awesome. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is sampling, sequencing and especially who is already familiar with the MPC workflow. You won't be disappointed!

I bought the MPC Live because I felt limited by my Maschine MK2. The standalone element is wonderful, I love being able to sit outside and make music or connect to my computer. I didn't think the learning curve was quite as bad as people said it was. It's not too hard to fire it up and just sketch out some crappy beats if you're not an expert. I prefer some of the functions over Maschine and am very happy overall with my purchase.
I placed my order when it was $1,200. Two days later the price dropped to $1,000 across every music site which was disappointing. I emailed AMS on the weekend and they got back to me immediately and adjusted the price for me. I really appreciate how quickly they replied and how fair they were about the situation.
I will definitely be ordering more in the future. You can't beat 0% interest financing.

The MPC Live has become a focal point in my studio workflow. This is the first Akai MPC I've ever owned so learning the architecture of the operating system has had it's incline but only due to the power it possesses.
The battery lasts as long as a laptop and I've gone unplugged for days just to go mobile and create in places like the school pickup waiting line in my vehicle. There is so much possibility, it can be painful to some, but I'm starting to understand the big picture of how this thing can best work for me!
Great way to go DAW=less!
Also, no more fuddling with sticks and drum equipment, my finger game is now on par!

Just what I was looking for. No labtop to carry around just hardware. Workflow is great no looking at a labtop screen everything is right in front of you. Comes with a lot of sample sound from drums to loops. And don’t for get three of it’s own build in instruments plugins that sounds great. You can also create your own sounds within these plugins and save them for later use with any of your projects. You can sample with ease, and it also has its own turntable and grounding hookup. This is one awesome machine. The Live also works hand and hand with the mpc software in controller mode. With it now at 2.6 you bound to make this hardware and software your production center.

First off, Im new to music production. I am musically inclined being a guitar player but i really wanted to get into making beats. Thats said, I found it intimidating trying to figure out a DAW setup. Im not inclined to use computers so dealing with multiple synthesizers and different software programs seemed out of my league.
Until I discovered Akai's line of standalone equipment. After much research, I determined that a portable or semi portable music workstation that included the software needed to make entire songs was a no brainer. So it came down to the MPC Live, X, and Akai Force.
I am into hip-hop so I figured the live was a better choice than the force. The Force seems more for EDM style music production. And since the live has a battery and costs considerably less than the X, I went with the Live.
One concern was menu diving. Yes, there is A LOT to know about the Live. But I did my homework beforehand, researching YouTube tutorials, so it wasnt too terribly difficult navigating the MPC Live when I got it. Which, by the way, 2-day shipping from AMS is nice.
After about 5 hours of working with the Dawless mpc, I found it actually very intuitive. Layering sounds on this is very straightforward and tweeking notes is a breeze with the touch screen. No doubt, I have not even scratched the surface to the options in the mpc, but I already think i have the hang of it.
As far as the sounds go, the library of samples is HUGE! And they have a really clean tone through my sennhieser HDs. I really like the hip-hop template. The Dre Bassline synth is awesome. I paired my Live with an Akai MkII so hooking it up and using a keyboard made it even easier to compose tracks into a sequence.
After only 10 hours of playing with it, I composed an entire song, minus vocals. If I can do it, then so can anyone else interested in making beats. And with AMS's pay as you play option, theres no excuse to not get one.

I really love the new mpc live by Akai! I’m thrilled to make music everyday! Waking up and busting out beats like no other! I love how I can just load all of my samples onto an sd card and be on my way ! This is the next level design ! Standalone production is at such a great time! Little bit of a learning curve but if you ever used in MPC you won't have a problem integration with Ableton is simple and easy to get along with. The wifi capability makes Hooking your iPhone or iPad to your MPC pretty basic and simple . Go ahead bust out those 25 dollar synths you been working on the iPad for the past 3 years . Lay down some funky soul satisfying synth lines or create a song by tapping into a daw and getting the most out of your equipment.

I bought this partly out of curiosity and partly fan of the genre (even though I play punk rock guitar) and this thing is a beast. It’s waaaay more powerful than I could have imagined. I’ve barely scratched the surface, but the ability to chop audio, record your own audio directly into it and tweak it, the sound libraries, the effects which are all built in - it does so much that I figured you’d have to have a PC for. I only wish there were better tutorials online, which is my only knock against this. Mostly just a bunch of user vids which are okay, but many are hard to follow.

I love the mpc live because it stands alone in every category. After doing my research I learned that it’s what I’ve been looking for and what Ive been needing for years.The mpc live is the future.If you are into hardware samplers/keyboard workstations and have a better workflow without a computer,the mpc live is for you.I bought the mpc live solely because it allows me to connect a keyboard to it to play synths pianos etc...I am a keyboardist/producer so most of my work is done with keyboards. So, the combination of one of the most powerful sampler(mpc live) and a keyboard makes my creativity influential,spontaneous, powerful and unstoppable on the big stage and in the studio. Well worth the money. It also is portable with battery life of 4 hours fully charge.Not a big fan of computers on stage, they can glitch,freeze, or have connection issues.With the mpc live you are in total control. I personally like to trigger keys for samples and now I can but ,on a much powerful product.

I'm a long time musician, and have always wanted to own an MPC, but they have always been out of my price range, starting at $3000+. My friend told me about the Live and demoed it for me. I was amazed. I got online and bought one immediately.
Here's the thing. It can be a stand alone unit, meaning that's all you need to take with you for music production. That and a pair of headphone. I put an SSD drive in, and I have a thumb drive and SD card as backup. Tons of storage for whatever I want to do. AND, there's a rechargeable battery IN THIS BABY! 6 HOURS OF CHORD FREE MUSIC PRODUCTION!! Whoa! I would buy two but one is more than enough.
The interface is amazing and you can get right into working on music.
I'm running out of review space so I'll just say check out the demo video, or buy it. You won't be disappointed. Music production has never been so easy! Akai laid it out for us. With the low price it can't be beat!

I wanted to spend some time with it before submitting a review and I'm glad I did for a couple reasons:
1)They released 2.4 since I bought it
2)To have time to find it's issues
It's a solid unit and can really handle song creation from multiple angles. I've written and produced a full song using samples, a lot of midi and recording other synths and vocals directly into it with no issue and the added built in VSTs are great, if not a little uniform.
I've started having some load issues when trying to use a lot of longer format audio files at once but quickly figured out how to make a cleaner version of the same project. I was essentially recreating songs I had written and performed on a Dave Smith Tempest and midi was surprisingly smooth.
I look forward to spending more time with the Live. So far, it's proven to have some learning curves, but for the money (it's now less expensive than Teenage Engineering's Op-1), it's single-handedly the best piece of equipment I've bought in years

For the last several years I've been mainly using software for music composition. While I was able to compose, I felt like spontaneity was missing for me. It was difficult to just sit down and improvise with my setup.
I've always like the MPC workflow, but never owned one. I haven't found Akai’s last few MPC hardware offerings compelling, and I wasn't interested in the controller/software hybrids. The standalone MPC Live has done wonders for my creativity, and it's so easy to unplug and make great beats anywhere!--though sometimes I wish for an internal speaker, but that's a minor complaint. I don't use it in controller mode, it's nice to have that option.
Battery life is amazing, and I've yet to run them out in hours of mobile beat making.

I think it is fantastic and absolutely well worth the dollars the portability is crazy good and you can even make samples on the go with your iphone and the riht cables . If i had it to do over i would have chosen the model that is not as portable because i dont travel enough to warrent the extra money. I think i would have been just as happy with the mpc touch for less than half the money. Then again if you have a tablet or smartphone o can get akai mpc software and have nealmost all the key features so id say before you get this just do your homework compare your needs and get what fits the bill best. I promise one thing for sure you wont be dissapointed in terms of quality and functionality, this thing is insanely cool and has so much to offer.

I used to own the 2000XL. This is such an upgrade coming from the 2000. But first off it’s completly portable: it’s battery powered; second you can install an extra hard drive. It has an SD card slot, 2 usb 3.0 port. It has 6 outputs. It’s loaded with effects and plugin instruments. It’s lightning fast and can fully work in standalone mode without ever needing a computer attaches. A++++!!!

I've had this MPC for a few weeks and the learning curve isn't so bad. I've owned the MPC 2000 in the past, so I was familiar to the MPC workflow. This machine has 16 GB of on board storage, which is kinda small, IMHO. But, not a big deal since I've installed a 240 GB SSD onto the drive connector. It also has 2 GB of RAM which gives you about 20 minutes of sampling time. I love that it has a built in phono input so you can sample directly from a turntable. The battery life is fantastic, it can run up to 6 hours on a full charge. Plus you can take this baby anywhere and get creative. The main reason I got this MPC is that this is a standalone machine.

The Akai MPC Live keeps getting better, the release of the Akai MPC Live was something I've been hoping for since as far back as I can remember.
The product offers all the great functions of an MPC with a battery that can handle some use. I haven't spent too much time using it on battery only, but the few times I have it's held its own.
I came from using Native Instruments' Maschine, so there was a pretty big learning curve, but with the help of videos online and Googling things I wasn't sure of, I learned a bunch and it made using the MPC Live so easy.
American Musical Supply's payment plan also made the price much easier to handle.
Overall I highly recommend the MPC Live to anybody looking for a portable MPC or live performance solution.

This product is great! I am a guitar player and I wanted to do some production work on my own instead of always relying and the band to come over. It dose require some studying of the unit if your not familiar with it already. But once you understand the workings of the MPC wow! It’s such a powerful tool and it has more than enough sounds already installed in it you really don’t have to look far at all and it mobile it’s simply incredible. If you're serious about making music and/or producing beats, this is the machine that you must have with you at all times! Previously I had to carry a heavy 88 key roland fathom X8 workstation keyboard to my gigs when I had to play for an artist that I had their music stored on my keyboard. The roland made it easy for me to transition live in between the tracks that I made without missing a beat. But now that I have the MPC Live it feels like I have a weight lifted off of my shoulder, literally! Lol. Now I can carry a light 61 key board with my mpc live and have even more versatility and than I had before. This machine is incredible with all the production that you can do and that's without the assistance of a computer. It stands alone all by its self! It's my new best friend and can be yours too!!! First of all, I’ve always wanted an MPC but just couldn’t afford to plop down the $$$ that they cost...but AMS let’s me “Rock Now-Pay Later” with the no-interest payment plan. Anyway, this piece is AWESOME! This is everything I imagined and more! Only thing I would have added on it is an XLR input with phantom power, but it obviously was not a deal breaker. Thank you AMS!

I needed a solution with features and workflow to inspire creativity in the studio, for when I need a minimal set up for live gigs, and that I could take to create on the go. This was the ticket! In the studio, if I get an idea and need to work it out real quick, I can fire this thing up and have great drum kits ready to go along with the built-in bass and synth instruments. Navigating through the many modes and onboard/user sounds is a snap with the knobs, buttons, and touchscreen in this compact but more than adequate workspace and if I want to, I can open up the MPC software with the USB connection to my computer to add even more ease to creating. For live gigs if I'm rolling solo, I can just take this unit, a guitar, and a midi controller and I can do anything out of my set, using the MPC Live to trigger tracks, parts, and as an instrument itself. On the go, its features and built-in battery hold it down for working out whole song ideas wherever, even on a plane trip like I have.

I have always used stock beats in DAWs but then decided it's time to take it to the next level - I was not disappointed. The only problem I have is that it's difficult to have a clean, high SPL instrument source (electric guitar for example) into the input without distortion, when using the looper.

Great sound selection. There is a bit of a learning curve and the mpc has froze up on me a few times. I wish there was a play/rewind button because having to click on the sequencer slows my work flow. I have only used it about a dozen times. As soon as I’m more familiar with all the settings I will enjoy it more. Overall a great peice of gear.

I am happy to ditch the laptop and be able to make music with the MPC LIVE as the brain. It of course also serve as my sampler, and also drum machine. It's built pretty much like a tank. And when I pair it with the Pioneer Toraiz AS-1 (also a tank!), I have a super compact live setup with the best work flow and sound ever. The AS-1 being analog, it sounds full, and really phat! The is probably one of the best investment of the year if not the best. Highly recommended if you want a portable workhorse/workstation that even runs on battery!

Coming from a hardware background this really makes production straightforward. There is a slight learning curve but, when you're up and running you'll find getting your ideas down fairly easy. The memory capacity is ample plus the SD slot is there for more memory. Touch screen was a great addition. It's amazing all the features packed in this package.

This thing does it all and has a fairly large library to do it with. No laptop required which was a major selling point for me. I have a small akai midi keyboard that I plug into this to play melodies and I can also put my guitar directly in as well. Records directly into the machine with the mpc software. My only complaint would have to be that it doesn’t have XLR inputs but if I really needed to I could go XLR to 1/4”. Amazing for songwriting though. Definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a great stand-alone drum machine.

First off, I’ve always been a fan of MPC’s and have though akai has put out a solid product but I was quite displeased, when my package came in, to find out that my MPC wouldn’t turn on. I roll with the punches and contacted CS to see if they could be of any help. They were prompt with their response and ready to take action with helping me out with my problem. The whole process isn’t finished and I’m still waiting to get my replacement MPC but everything up until this moment has been pleasant and I will continue to do business with AMS.

I’ve been making music since 1999 on some kind of computer. I like it and I do still us them, but I got a little used to my creative process lately and wanted to try something new. I make a mix of hip hop and various genres of electronic music and wanted to Street he my legs a little. I had been wanting an MPC for years, but never really have the money to pick one up. But when I saw the MPC Live, I decided to jump in and it’s been one of the best instruments I’ve bought.
The MPC Live is basically an MPC, a computer sequencer and a synthesizer all in one. It’s different enough from my usual workflow to make my brain come up with new ways to produce music but still familiar enough with its sequencer, effects and the optional MPC 2.0 software, that makes the MPC Live into a controller for the program. Having the option to work in standalone mode or with a computer and access to VSTs is great for producers trying to have as many options at the fingertips.
It’s a great MPC to start with.

I admit that I was intimidated since I'm a rare bread that started with Maschine over MPC because it seamed easier to learn. I took the advice of colleagues and purchased the MPC Live/X Bible and it taught everything I need to know. My sampling has improved nearly 80% due to how much easier it is on MPC Live. And you can't beat the standalone/portability. I highly recommend!

This baby has WiFi, you can add a massive additional drive inside the unit....if you can’t make music and have fun with this Live unit I can’t help you. The build is very solid...it weighs more than it looks...

There is a learning curve, but I'm enjoying it. Love not being tethered to the computer via the Live's stand alone mode. Although the CPU option is available with the included MPC 2.0 Software. I Previously owned the Mashine MK1 and was looking to purchase the MK3. The price was definitely right on the MK3, but i wanted the portability of the MPC Live. Ever heard the expression champagne wishes, but beer money? American Musical Supply gave ME the ability to purchase the MPC Live through flexible payments. I could grasp what was originally out of MY reach! If not for that fact i would own the MK3 and probably still be happy with MY purchase. I can now see the appeal of the stand alone MPC + the pads feel better than MY MK1. The responsiveness is on point as well. I wonder if that will be sacrificed when i use the MPC 2.0 software? I recommend this to any one who wants a portable sampler worksatation

The MPC Live is a busy beatmaker's dream (almost) come true. It's portability based on its 7 hour lasting lithium battery has made it so easy for me to hammer down quick ideas in the park, on my college campus, and on my living room couch at home. The sampling capability is superb, as I can sample straight from my record player through the pair of RCA inputs, sample my hardware synths, or even my cell phone through an 1/8 inch to stereo 1/4 inch into one of the two pairs of 1/4 inch inputs on the machine. The touchscreen is a blast and I found myself using it more than the q-link knobs to edit my samples, which is something I didn't expect to prefer!
Don't let any of the videos or comments fool you online, this thing can warp and mangle audio pretty well and is definitely capable of decent sound design. However, I'd love to see more lfo options and effects for the midi tracks.
Of course, the mpc live is not perfect and has some time to grow due to it being a fresh product! I just hope that Akai keeps on killing it with their updates and I hope they continue to listen to their fans! (Still want that sidechain option!) Despite that, I am greatly satisfied with my purchase and will continue to grow alongside it.

I look at reviews and I'm sure you are looking at reviews too and would appreciate feedback just like I would, so here it goes.
Plain and simple: I'm returning the MPC because quite honestly, its no different than maschine or any of my vsts. I work faster in a DAW and reason 9 is everything you could ever need and or want to make music for any genre.
The MPC is cool looking and I wanted to keep it but for 1200$ the new Maschine is cheaper. I don't see the point with my situation on keeping the MPC because not only do I have to import samples from my computer but then 'I"d have to reimport everything once I wanted to mix back into a DAW or something in my computer.
I hope you figure out what you want to do but for me this just seems more work and sort of backwards instead of forwards for producing music.

I have waited patiently for a Studio to Go and one finnaly arrived. I've been sequencing professionally since the late 80s and have owned MPC 60s
60II 2000 and 2000XL the 60 and 60II like the 3000 have the best clock. Which I have missed in computer recording.
I've programmed on just about everything and this piece of gear is the game changer.
Not only is the clock and timing back but out of the box you are ready to hit. Samples for days and you can midi your keyboard to play bass keys and strings with the stock sounds included.
No instructions needed. ( If you know Akai language).
This MPC live is a mini (take where ever you go DAW) with tons of power. I suggest adding a reliable SSD 128 or 250 it's limitless on that front. My only issue is it didn't come out 3 Years ago.
Great job Akai and Love American Musical for getting it to me on time like they always do.
