This is a very flexible and solid machine (no surprise from Akai). I can run stems for live shows, create loops and music, program standalone or via usb, and the large touchscreen is the icing on the cake! The only (very small) thing keeping it from a perfect 10 is the fragility of the power cord. Otherwise, an AMAZING unit!!! Grab one with confidence

Long time and PC user starting with a 1000 back in 2005, I’ve come to love MPC’s for the unmatchable quality of sound that they produce and intuitive workflows, and the reliability of the hardware. After using the 1000 for years, I upgraded to the MPC 4000, and didn’t think I coils find much better than that. The Akai MPCX takes everything I loved from the 4000, and takes it to a whole new level, that we would only see here in the future. The touchscreen, the RGB pads, the intuitive interface software with plug-in availability in multiple synthesizers internally make it just an incredibly amazing unit that I personally believe is unmatched in its capabilities. Combine that with all the new state of the art sounds, and sound packs that you can buy or that come with it, you’re really only limited by your imagination and what you can produce.

Took awhile to receive it due to the system being down at the time but that's the first and only time I've had any issue with AMS. I love the MPC, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's somewhat of a learning curve for me to use it but I welcome that. It's capable of so much I think it's a must have for any home studio. Would recommend.

I have been producing music for 10 plus years on various studio equipment (hardware and software). This is the best investment I have ever made! Comes with tons of high quality sounds and has capability of installing an internal hard drive to expand memory space for tons of samples! I installed a 1 tb ssd in mine. Works perfect fine. The amazing sound quality,not having to look at a computer screen all day, and being able to organize everything so well is what does it for me. Not to mention this unit comes packed with tons of effects that sound great too! You don’t want to pass up on this. This truly has the sound you have been looking for!

I really didn't know what to expect when I received this MPC but once I receive it I was very well pleased. This is a definite must have in your studio set up. The 10 inch screen definitely is a plus as well as the standalone capabilities. If you had doubts about this workstation I can tell you that it is definitely worth every penny!!

I could write a book on this thing. It's Awesome. It solves any interface situation you can come up with. The XLR inputs allow you to connect directly to any source....live bass/guitars/vocals/ cv-analog and modular synths. Plug it into your goto DAW and free up your mouse hand. 16Gb of storage- 10Gb of sound content included...touch flip up screen(very cool). The only thing close to it is the Maschine. I got mine from AMS in November and I love it. Worth the admission price and then some. Great for filmscores and Producers who like Multiple soundsources ...it's like having Kraftwerk and Devo come over to your home studio. Make Music.
Read the specs when you pick yours up- they are all true and Yes MPC X works in standalone mode.

What a amazing Work station this is. A must for All Producers. Had it for 3 years and still much to learn about this AKAI Workstation I always wanted a AKAI Sampler but this a Workstation/sampler and it is the best...and the factory sounds are truly amazing. I really like the workflow with the mpc x. After using the mpc 2000xl and then jumping to the mpc 4000. I couldn’t help but notice the similarities of the workflow. After setting up my programs I’m able to make beats in hardly no time at all. The pads are so smooth like the older models. What a blend with newer technology but with an old school feel.

Fundamentally changed my life. Now recording my own bass lines onto my own beats all gets done in one box without requiring any PC or daw. I treat and play MPC-X like an instrument which is exactly what I wanted. Very high quality construction and the workflow is so well designed and thought out. I am converted to Akai and I can't recommend this enough. Only thing I say take caution for is this is not a cheap piece of gear and you can easily be in over your head if you don't have patience or don't know what you're doing.

The MPC X is so fun to make music with. It is very user friendly, it takes some time to get the work flow if you are a beginner but it is definitely worth the effort. So many options when it comes to composing, building, and arranging projects. The only thing I would ask for is the capability to load VSTs in standalone mode. This is my first time using an MPC. I always wanted one. Then I found American Musical where they will work with you with installed payments. Which was great for me. When I was young I use to sample on a mixer while Djing. Years later I got a certificate in Audio Engineering. So I knew the basic concept of sampling and using a drum machine. I couldn't wait till I got my MPC X and start using it. There are many features and recording options. That will leave you occupied for days. I'm still learning how to use it. But its not that hard to use. Of course there are a ton of features. the sound quality is great. The touchscreen makes it a great standalone. It comes with 10gb of sound already included. I wish I could write more . But I just started using it. All in all. This is a great studio centerpiece and I think I made a wise investment. this will last me for years to come. Thank you.

I've had this for almost a year now, it's been great, but the latest firmware 2.8 took it to a whole new level for me in standalone mode. It was already dope for sampling and chopping. Now with multi-midi it integrates so much better with my other equipment. I can record anything into the MPC or into pro tools, speaking of pro tools it now has ableton link which is a revelation. The one thing I could say I wish the MPC had is more audio inputs for recording multiple sources simultaneously. For that reason I actually prefer recording into pro tools when I'm using my synths, but I let the MPC control everything, If I need to add a VST sometimes I'll go into controller mode and add VST's to projects I started in standalone, sometimes I keep it in stand alone and let Pro tools handle the VST's just depends.

I have been using MPC's for years and was really excited when the Mpc X was debuted. I was using the Studio but was ready to move up to something bigger. The standalone capability is what really stood out to me. The ability to get my Splice files without being tethered to the computer is awesome. It took me a little time find my way around this beast but the workflow is super easy.The only thing I wish is that it was battery powered like the Live. I travel a lot and this baby definitely goes where I go. I love it.

1st. you can use it as a soundcard and mixer with effects thru the analog ports. 4ins and usb back to the computer, Genius. with the 4 midi outs you can control multiple external gear.
2nd. Sampling never been so easy, you can sample anything. A friend of mine have a fantom G, you can sample the keys from the fantom into the MPC, now i can play that same sound from a kit you can make in the mpc. Awsome machine.

Awesome musical computer.I use it with win 7 64 bit works great. I am also using the MPC software and using CakeWalk daw. I love doing my drum programming in the MPC x then exporting the stems into my daw to groove with my other gear. There are so many ways to use this device..i will be enjoying this for years to come.

Big thanks to American Musical and Akai for this beast of equipment. As a producer of more than 20 years making hiphop, trap, Rnb etc, I have worked with many products, but when it comes to the MPCX? Hands down this is the best workstation I have ever seen in my life.
Sound Quality
Im not going to be super technical as this machine really changed my perspective in creating music,the sound quality is simply amazing, the eq tools this machine comes with brings that PUNCH to your sounds, for years I have struggled with drums like 808s and kicks attempting to make them hit louder using many eqs to be disappointed later. In the Mpc X, look no farther, simple fx that comes with it WORKS! Now im creating the way I want quickly no slow downs trying to get the drums right. Creativity will definitely hit a new level with this machine.
Features
Learning curve is not that bad if you spend more time with it to learn features. As a producer, I love the fact its not only stand alone, you can also connect external devices directly to it like a midi keyboard and hard drives. Also being able to directly connect this machine to any computer like my desktop and laptop when I am on the go is a huge plus, the mpc software is pure genius as I use other daws like studio one. The hardware features cover all my needs as for the ins and outs as I have external instruments like the fantom rack. Rock solid asio drivers for direct interface usage. I am still learning more features at thia time.
Overall Opinion
I am going to give my personal opinion. For all serious musicans and producers, this is a must have, many producers struggle to bring that "IT" factor when it comes to bringing life to their music, I was definitely one of them for a long time, countless hours of equeing and not completing projects, I started to sound "out dated", but this machine does the job, it litterally teaches YOU. Creativity is FUN, it will definitely bring fun into your sessions which is key. Akai has out done themselves on this one.

If your new to American Musical and trying to think if this is perfect for you? Then do not hesitate getting this as they have great deals if not the best, especially if you have a low budget, now your dream equipment can become a reality. You will not regret it. 10 stars!

This workstation is awesome! I can create on the spot, and it’s super easy to use. The touch view screen is huge and user friendly. I was able to create my first project right out of the box! Nothing about this device is hard to understand. The in box sounds are amazing with over 1500 samples and a nice size hard drive to store your own on. I absolutely love this MPC and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something portable and stationary. The flight case offers superb protection as well.... it has a padded interior cut exactly to fit this MPC perfectly, and plenty of space to store all of its accessories! I love it hands down!!!

Had a chance to use the MPC one and I liked it so much that I got an X. I thought the whole improvement on work flow was just talk but it wasn’t. Editing samples with the Q links and touch screen is beautiful and it will speed up your process. That and the warping(time stretch) is straight forward you’re locking it to BPM or stretching the sample by a percent value, while the sequence plays. These to things alone made me very happy only had it a couple of days so I’m still getting into all the functions and I’m sure I’ll find some more things I like.

I have been making beats on all types of drum machine's, even tried the old 808. What i noticed right off the bat is the natural swing it has I'm like wow all of a sudden its daylight on the drums. The feel is that of a live drummer without any tweaks.. My preference is the stand alone mode, it has 8 out so that's plenty for a solid drum track or beat if you prefer.
I do not need to use my pc to create drums no need to store the drums in the pc the Mpc X comes with 16GB plus i can pop in a thumb drive or a memory card any size GB.
For my home studio i have analogue capabilities so the MPC X is the perfect fit. I just fire ?? up ?
The MPC and my Roland FA06 syncing right up.
I could not create a beat on my Mpc studio without my PC but the MPC X is the difference between night and day

I've had my MPC 2000XL since 2001. Like a lot of folks I've kept it over the years never seeing much of a reason to upgrade but accepting the flaws and limitations of the unit that many MPC users learned to work around. In that time other products came a long some worse some better but none that could loosen the grip I had on my MPC 2000XL.
Finally though Akai finally released an MPC that offered everything that I always wanted out of my old MPC. A model with the power of a DAW but fully stand alone. This piece incorporates everything you need to make the beats you want. Features you had to menu dive on older models are right up front on the MPCX. A lot of thought went into creating this beast and it shows.

This machine has the bounce in every ounce! I have used practically every MPC, and the -X- is definitely the flagship. The wide touch screen is an upgrade from the previous Ren model.
You can integrate this as your Daw or use it as a stand-alone. This not only has the feel of an actual instrument that the MPC family is well known for, but the live automation feature keeps things spicy as well.
This is a mean machine! Play it live on stage or rock out in the stu, but THIS IS THE ONE!

I have to say i have never had so much fun making music until i Purchased my MPC X .I find it very easy to use and it gets me working on music and completing them within 20 minutes!, I did not expect to be able to make 10 instrumentals a day even in my hectic work schedule.I love the touch screen it helps with editing and the Q links help me control Different Functions within the software such as the number of bars in a track to Leveling each of the sounds of my projects.You really don't need a computer at all i would give it 10 stars if i could!!!

Coming from the mpc4000, mpc studio and the mpc Renn this machine is crazy. You can use this without a computer and make amazing music. The mpc expansion library is perfect and the new slice integration makes it even better. The audio tracks for recording vocals to instruments. I recommend this for new and experienced musician. It has everything in it from a Daw to a production center. You won’t regret it.

The MPC rules!
I try to keep an opened mind. Buying and trying other brands/machines. However, they couldn’t replace the workflow of the MPC lineage. There’s a reason why the MPC has stood the test of time!

I Have upgraded from the mpc 2000 xl to the mpcx. Life changing. The operation is very similar to the 2000 however with 10 times the capability. This machine allows me to intertwine analog performances, digital data and samples into my tracks. Separation for tracks very simple. I can’t imagine how I have managed this far without the mpcx. Great buy for the money.

Now this bad boy is a workhorse times ten! Not enough space to speak on all the beautiful features! First to start the standalone workflow is incredible, just plug it up and turn it on and get to work. Then if you really want to take advantage of more powerful features connect the device to your computer and really take advantage of the 2.3 software! The touch screen feature which allows you to edit and select functions with the touch of your fingers makes this the best drum machine workflow ever period!!!! The stock sounds that come with the unit out the box will inspire you to make your next hit in no time. The pads, q-links, armrest, and knobs are super high quality, and all come in handy. At first I was overwhelmed with the options and sounds given with MPC X but it soon became second nature manuevering with this as my central hub for working on music production. Plugging in guitars and mics and even my vinyl player at the same time made music all the more easier to create and share. You can literally make your entire songs on here with all your favorite plugins loaded up an SD card or an external hard drive. Definitely recommend adding this workhorse to your studio!

The unit so far seems solid.. the timing seems tight and syncing up external midi gear seems just as tight.
The workflow is pretty slick. The looper section is a great addition.. you can come up with some very creative ideas with the looper. My favorite thing is I'll lay a rhythm either beat box or with some sort of vocal percussion under the main beat and have it playing in the background to add something.. something to the beat. It's all about vibe or energy of the track and doing little stuff in the background adds to that.if I could add one more feature is more audio tracks in standalone mode. Maybe even direct hard disk streaming of audio.. that would elevate this unit to the next level.

Wish I had one of these. I would make soulplucking music that would touch peoples heart it is clearly a top notch product with interfaced beat pad and a display so you can visualize what your doing as well as by ear return right back into that demo or master piece you've been working on I personally have not owned this product but I have been playing music for 18 years and I play guitar, ukalele, and harmonica but I love rapping and doing all mediums of music and I feel with this product or as simalar I could move on from any blockade I feel in my recording and mastering abilities

This machine is almost perfect to be honest. I use it in standalone or software mode. The audio interface sounds great for sampling. I just plug my outputs direct to the monitors and get a great sound. The grid in standalone mode is a dream. Plus it has 8 outputs. Been wishing for this since I had my Mpc 1000. I get pretty low latency also on my pc laptop with the Mpc X. And it works perfect with Pro Tools. It also has a nice selection of drum samples and you can audition each sample.The touch screen is easy to touch just like a tablet. Im loving this Mpc X. I would really suggest buying this machine if you need a standalone or controller with software.

Hardware sequencing, yay!!! Not only a silly piano roll editor, but also event listing! Not only touch screen, but tons of knobs and buttons. Pads and O leds!
MIDI syncing to any computer or even an iPad (Auria) is tight and rock solid, both as Master and Slave, MID clock, or MTC! I mean really solid!
Audio recording is high quality and effect processing power is ridiculously powerful.
(Too few effect patches, though!)
If I could only have one piece of gear ever, that'd be it. Tactile controls, 4 audio ins and 8 outs, two midi ins and 4 MIDI outs, USB 3, etc.
I do not use it with a computer, I just use it as my central hardware sequencer with a bunch of hard synths and drum machines, etc., but I MIDI pretty much everything, for instance vocoder MODULATOR signals (VOCAL PHRASES)and its carrier MIDI, guitar effects patch changes, so everything, and it's smooth!
Why 4 starts, then? All "presets" are Hip Hop and EDM nonsense, for "loopers". But you can load (or sample) whatever you need.

This is the mother of all MPC’s. Rock solid sequencer. No deep menu diving. There is a button for almost every function. Allows me to just focus on making music.
The only drawback is the MPC Software. Akai needs help in that area...It’s not very intuitive.
I use the MPCX in Standalone Mode and I couldn’t be happier.

I really love this MPC! It’s one of the best thing to came out. When I got it home I Opened it up and with the work. Man my beats sounded better than they have ever did. I will not go anywhere else but American Music Supply. The mpc x is one of the best drum machines I seen on the market in years. It's a stand alone . Meaning you can plug instruments or your microphone in the mpcx and start recording. No computer needed. At American Music supply you can call there very knowledgeable staff if you have any questions on your purchase. Please do yourself a favor if you are a Hiphop producer look into getting the MPC X . If you don't have the money there are plenty of payment options.

Had it for six months and I received a defective unit. Akai customer service was very responsive when they sent me a replacement unit. However the replacement unit may be defective as well because of a recent firmware update. It is a great unit. The downside is the updates may cause a defect in your unit... I don’t want my money back I just want a unit that works and stable!!

If you are on the fence about getting the MPC-X you shouldn't be. This piece of gear truly is the centerpiece of a studio.
I have had a lot of Akai gear throughout the years, Akai Professional has outdone themselves with this X. Ease of use and workability, if you are new it may take a day or two to get it. When you do though.... Never looking back. Straight Bangers. Get the payment plan, invest in yourself you won't regret it!

I started making beats with the MPC 2000XL than I switched over to the Roland MV-8800 for a few years. Then I bought the MPC Renaissance in 2014. Now that I've been using the MPC X. I am amazed by it. Akai created a beast, I love the mpc X everything, I always wanted to do and faster is a breeze with the MPC X... It arrived one day sooner than expected in great condition. I went from 8 track reel to reel to ADATs to computer recording, but the best and most creative I had ever been was using a Forat (Linn 9000). This is the closest to that experience I've had since. While I do sometimes make electronic music, I'm a guitarist and I wanted something to arrange with that wasn't a desktop mac/PC... I have come to the conclusion that I prefer a stand-alone, dedicated unit.
Pros: Self contained, no distractions. You're using the MPC, you're not checking email (or the clock, there isn't one). Just you and your work. Pads feel great, lots of I/O, feels well built for the most part, looper is cool. Workflow is great overall.
Cons: When I sample using audio trigger, there's a transient at the start. Did a factory reset within two hours of owning (MPC 4k did that all the time, why I sold it) but hasn't since updating OS. Factory sounds are pretty weak IMO and taking up a lot of HD space. Effects are limited and many aren't beat sync'd (weird).

I have owned the MPC 2000xl, the MPC 2000 and I have played with many other MPCs this by far is the best MPC yet! Soon as I opened it up and turn it on I was able to load up a kid and get started immediately! The capabilities with this thing are amazing and it has speeded up my workflow incredibly! I love my MPC X I wouldn't trade it for the world

I have the MPC Live as well and having been using it for about six months and Love it. I received my MPC X pre order yesterday and the workflow on this machine is insane! You get onboard dedicated buttons as well as control on the 10.1 inch touch screen. The tilt on the screen and wrist cushion make it very comfortable when making beats, chopping samples and sound designing. The choice between standalone or using the 2.0 software makes it convenient to get tracks started right away then finish it with your plugins in 2.0. I could go on all day on why you should definitely purchase this thing, it’s a good investment!
