Product Rating Product Review This is a VERY bare-bones sampler, but for the occasional vocal stab or to fill dead ear with a backing track, it's 100% stable and simple to use via either USB midi or the built in mini-din to MIDI adapter cables. Editing is best handled from the front panel, even if you do get started with the built in software, and you will do best if you hear what you're doing. The supplied software for renaming and converting your samples is hit and miss, but if you're capable of editing filenames to fit into 8 characters (is this really hard?) and can handle converting your files to fully trimmed lengths with your own loop points embedded, then you should have no issues using this unit. This last part is crucial, as feeding randomly downloaded or recorded audio into the sample pads won't provide the same ease of use as modern software samplers where you can simply isolate the part you want to use. The files must be pre-trimmed and any effects you want are best embedded in the sample, as well as complex enveloping and filtering. All you get here is 3 trigger types and a very basic reverb that has an audible number of delay lines. Set the verb to 1-2, equalize the volume between sample pads, assign midi information and you're off to the races!

Product Review Not so great with adding your own samples... I got this so I could trigger samples live, but it seems to have a problem with longer samples even if they are within the specs playable by the device...gonna have to upgrade to an SP404 or something.. It does play beats and loops from the AKAI library with ease and is easy to navigate.

Product Review This sampler caught my eye as I was browsing the website and I had to get it. As a somewhat beginner producer, I want to get my hands on as much tech as possible and this product is not only great, it's affordable! The instructions are pretty direct and there are already pre-loaded patches divided into 8-track kits which is really exciting. I've added my own samples, accessed through an SD card, and I'm in love! I can't wait to incorporate this into a group studio session or live performance!

Product Review I had my apprehension on this little unit, but it seemed to do what I needed... and I was not disappointed. I just wanted that would sit on my keyboards and fire off some sample here and there during my live sets. and it does just that. I have been bouncing down small WAV samples out of pro-tools. (there are some online instruction on the best ways to convert WAVs to play as samples on the Akai site.) And voila! just like that, I have added a bunch of cool little samples to enhance our performances. I have not had it long, so cannot tell you how the mechanics hold up... it is pretty lightweight... but I am guessing, if handled with care, it will last a good while.

Product Review Great product for the entry-level and seasoned vet. Size allows for great portability. SD card slot allows for freedom from tethering with a computer for sounds if you're on the move. My son loves it!

Product Review I've been using it for simple vocal/dialogue sample playback which it's fine for, if you can get your samples to work. Granted I haven't put in much time with it, but it's a playback device and should probably be as easy as old cassette players, but maybe that's just me. The onboard effects/parameters are easy enough to use. I haven't updagted to the stereo samples yet. Like most, it's been an issue of consistent sample uploading. With that said I'd say look into the MPX16 as it seems to have taken care of a lot of issues and it's a standalone sampler as well..

Product Review I have a Roland sampler and is it great. I needed this for very small basic PA applications, opening music, national anthem and some sound effects. It says it allows for 30mb of samples at one time...I thought per pad, but total, EVEN with the 32GB SD card! I tried to log 2 samples each 5mb and it told me "sample too large." Then to top it off, you can't even turn off the velocity of the pads or shut the sound off of a sample by hitting the pad again. You have to wait until the sample fully plays and ends, if you trigger something else both will play...it was maddening! If I could give this minus 10 stars, I would.
