I got this for my 15 yr old and she LOVES it!! It’s just the right size, very light, has great sounds, and feels great too!! All we needed to add was a rug under it to keep pedals in place(which is standard for any trap kit) Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a great sounding electric drum set!

I've always wanted to try to play Drums since I was 10yo when my dad took me to a music hall and I snuck into the orchestra pit and sat down at a drum set... It felt natural to be on that throne. Unfortunately, my dad whisked me away and out of the pit and I never got back around to trying to play drums until recently. Now at 73yo and retired, I decided to get my own set and learn to play.
This Alesis Surge Drum Kit is perfect for me. It's compact and light and fits comfortably in my study. The module has a lot of features and the drum pads and cymbals have a good feel to them. The module is easy to program your own custom kits and when connected to a pair of 80 watt drum amps, this drum kit sounds like the real deal.
I am happy I finally got around to buying this drum set and highly recommend it.

This kit is really awesome. It's like the nitro. Only better. I love how the snare is 10" the only thing I don't like about it is how the Toms and snare hook on the mounts. The mounts have to be straight up. Like a real kit. But I like the way the turbo and nitro pads mounted better. Other than that. I love it.

Not only did American Musical allow for payments on these drums the speediness of the delivery blew my mind. I received the set two days before I thought I would!! The product itself is incredible! The feel of the drum mesh is amazing, the set is sturdy but can also be folded up a bit for travel. LOVE that I can program my own sounds into it. It’s perfect! Let the playing begin! This kit is miles better than the nitro mesh for several reasons. The first is the 10” snare which may not seem like much from the 8” that the nitro mesh has but trust me, it alone is worth it. Not only that, the rest of the toms is dual zone which allows for rim shots. The kick is also much larger allowing you to install a double kick pedal with no issues. The cymbals can also all be choked. The stand feels much more premium and sturdy. It also sits higher than the nitro mesh. The only thing that is left to be desired is, a better drum module. It is essentially the same as the nitro mesh. The sounds of the drums arent bad but they are not good either. A simple fix if you have ez drummer or whatever on pc. Or you could upgrade the module to a better one later down the line. All in all, i am absolutely satisfied with this kit and for another 170$ on top of the nitro mesh, it is absolutely worth it.

Very responsive kit. The mesh heads really give u good solid hit and plenty of bounce back for faster rolls. Sounds great through an amp or through a main speaker. Lots of options for sounds preloaded with the ability to bank more. Would highly recommend. Great kit for gigging bands. Quick setup and no tuning. Lol.

I initially purchased this as a practice kit. But it became an incredibly viable option for some of the smaller live gigs I play.
After reading some reviews in regard to durability and sound, I was reluctant; but I bought it anyway and I'm glad that I did.
Setup took roughly 15 minutes. I turned it on and started playing. Played for about 3 hours straight, no complaints, in fact I was impressed given how much this kit actually costed.
After some tweaking, this kit can be made to sound quite well. It also supports a double bass pedal.
It folds up nicely for storage or transport, which is invaluable to me.
As for durability, I don't play like a caveman, but I have leaned into it quite a bit and there are no signs of anything breaking anytime soon.
The few things I strongly recommend with this kit are to:
A)Take an hour to really feel out the settings, the sound of each pad can be changed and adjusted in many ways(drum/cymbal type, pitch, reverb, volume)
B)Use sticks a size lighter than you normally would, wood tipped seems more responsive.
C)Use plastic beaters for the kick drum.
D)If you play with a speaker(s), definitely use an eq to get a fuller sound. Using a monitor makes it sound cheap like any other kit would.

My first e-kit. Easy to set up(took about an hour). Very impressed with the quality and feel of the build. I haven't played in about 4yrs, and this kit put the fire back in me already. Nice and quiet to play with headphones, and heart thumping through the PA system.

Wow, the quality of the pads, construction and the module is really great. Very easy to set up too! The included module sounds great honestly, and even better when used with some software like addictive drums or superior drummer. And the bass pad is more than big enough to fit your favorite double pedal! (i use mine with a tama iron cobra) What are you waiting for? grab this kit :)

The hardware package is very nice and even comes with free sticks and a decent kick pedal.
The sound library is basic at best, but you will not get realistic drum sounds until you spend thousands anyway.
Really shines as a midi controller for DAW plugins.
I would recommend that you really asses your needs before going to the more expensive Alesis kits.
This one is perfect with the dual zone tom pads.

I haven't set behind a kit in close to 30 years! I finally broke down and ordered this kit. I'm amazed by the response you get from the mesh heads. Almost feels like the real deal! With all the kits and everything that you can do with this unit for the price is amazing! I ran it through a 20 watt 8 inch stage right little amp for a few days till I got the Alesis Strike Pro 2000 watt amp and it sounded great on the little amp. But when you hook it up to the Strike Pro, than everything changes! Than you get the bass! Yes the bass that shakes the neighbors walls! I will say that when I first set behind it and started playing, that a flood of memories and emotions came over me as 30 years ago I walked away from music. This kit brought back many memories of my youth and the memories of when I was younger that how the small town I grew up in had to listen to me practice and rock out at home. Now my neighbors get to hear and old man relive is youth! If your needing a good practice kit or just starting out on this journey, than this is a kit for you! AMS's payment plans makes it easy to start out or like me relive some great memories.

Everything functions as it should. Assembly Instructions lacking. I have had this for 3 weeks and I am beginner and find this was the best place to start for me falling between the Nitro and the Command I think the Surge is the best fit. I like all the different Sounds(Voices) you can assign to the kit and Dual zone for the Toms and the Snare add to the options available. 24 Preset Kits and 16 Custom. For a beginner I need nothing more to start.

My grandson is 12 years old and loves his electronic drum set. My oldest son who is 22 plays them when my grandson is not around. He is a professional drummer who has played for many groups and has taken lessons with the best teachers in Pennsylvania and California. With the right speaker, it has all of the sounds and effects of a professional drum set. The best part was that there was no need to tune the drums with a drum key.....just adjust the electronic box attached as he was ready to go. I also purchased the earphones and sticks to go with it. What a blessing to know that they both can play drums and I can still watch my Netflix in peace and most of all, no complaints from neighbors. The best part is that it's a good fit for his bedroom and he can easily adjust the position of the set with it's moving frame. I have purchased a few items from your company previously, but I couldn't have purchased a better gift. My grandson said it was better than playing video games. Wow, that was the whole idea of me getting him the drum set. Did I mention the earphones....well, the sound is so pristine, you can close your eyes and imagine you are at a concert. Great products! I have purchased many things online, but nothing with as great of quality and affordable pricing as American Musical. I couldn't have obtained this for my grandson if it wasn't for the payment options. Thank you so much for taking a chance on me.

This is a really great drumset. We have a small home studio, and it is very convenient for our space. It has a very rich and realistic sound bank. It's great for professionals and beginners alike. The Surge drum kit is awesome for the money!! Mesh heads are so much better than the old rubber heads and feel just like authentic drum heads! The bounce of the stick and the sensitivity of the mesh is simply AMAZING! You get a ton of onboard sounds and backing tracks to play along with through headphones or an amplifier.. plus plug ur phone into the module and play along with your fave tunes! I live in an RV and the Surge kit takes up very little room, and when I’m not playing, I loosen the end rack posts and fold the kit together for more space!! Get these... you’ll LOVE them for the quality and most importantly for the price! Ty Alexis and AMS for offering these!! AMS has these to me in just TWO DAYS....Unreal!!

First, I'm not a drummer, I'm a bass player, vocalist, and sound engineer.
I bought this set for my practice space/studio. So far, five drummers have played this kit. They are all impressed with the Bang-for-the-buck factor. Primarily, though, they tell me they like the feel. A couple of grumbles about the cymbals "not feeling metallic enough", but it certainly didn't appear to affect their playing.
The drum tones available are pretty impressive, too.
I never intended to use them for recording, but I had to give them a shot. Last weekend, we tracked four songs. I had no trouble getting the sounds I needed to build a solid, dynamic drum mix.
Are there better kits out there? Absolutely. For five beans? I doubt it.

Amazing product! We purchased the Alesis Electronic Kit for our 13 yo son who is autistic. He loves music and we wanted to help cultivate that interest. We could not have chosen a better product! Not only does the Alesis Mesh Kit allow him to create and record his masterpieces, it allows him to actually see exactly which drums he used at playback. This feature is amazing. The sound of each strike is accurate and crystal clear. Every sound is realistic and you do not feel you’ve been cheated with computerized sounds. The accuracy of each strike is awesome and crisp. He plays quietly in his room due to the mesh and that is a plus for all parents! He has replaced time spent on his game console with time on his Alesis! He loves it and we do too! One of our best investments yet!

This is a wonderful kit for beginner and intermediate drummers. Fast response, sensitivity is spot on, has lots of features and adjustability that usually come on higher priced kits. Very sturdy and stable once you set it up. Once unpacked, I was playing within a half hour. However, I couldn't give it the full 5 stars because of the kick drum. The sensor is located at the lower portion of the mesh head. This forced me to cut the beater rod shorter in order to reach the bottom of the mesh without the other end hitting my toes or the pedal. The kick mesh also seems to show some wear after a short time, so I placed a pedal patch to help with that. Otherwise this is a great kit and I'm very satisfied!

Well I gotta say this kit is better than what I had before but only because of the mesh heads, my hands no longer hurt from hitting hard rubber pads :) the dual zones are cool, plus I was able to add cymbals from my old kit to this so thats cool, I know people complained about double hits, I found if the mesh is too tight it tends to double hit, so loosening seemed to really limit that. there is quite a bit of cross talk thou which sucks. and the hi hat is really limited.but all in all its still fun to play. All in all not a bad kit the price is ehh. But with 12 low payments I can over look that.

Has good feel and a variety of sounds. It can be a little tricky tuning the sounds and volume to your liking but you can get it there. The only major issue with me was the lack of a true amp output. If you want to play through a amplifier, you need to use a headphone adapter.

for the price this is a great kit. this replaced an old DM5 kit and has the alesis quality that I've come to expect through the years. a mesh head kit for $500? YEP!
shipping was fast and arrived well packaged. I'd like to take a moment to add the I contacted American Musical customer support to inquire about price matching - I had spotted the kit on Amazon from Alesis for $100.00 less. the rep took the time to look at the amazon link and discussed with his manager. while AM wasn't able to price match I do applaud customer service for at least looking into my inquiry. I'll do more business with AM

I had somewhat of a challenge putting that together. I do love a challenge, and it was for my son for his birthday, so we both put it together. now mind you, my son is not musically inclined, but I did get there set to get him off the video games for a while. as we know most kids are doing that these days I want to get him into something that he can be more creative with. I thought a drum set will be one of the easiest things for boys. for now it is working out so hopefully I can get him off the video game for a while and stay with the musical world. lol, I know good luck to me huh! Lol

It’s a great drum kit and it does everything I could ever want the only issue that I have is when you hit the snare hard it starts to slip a little and you can’t tighten it any more than it is cause I think it might break but I have fixed the issue other than that it’s a great electronic drum kit

Great for practicing and does ok at small gigs. For some reason the kick drum doesn’t seem to get very loud with headphones in, even with the volume all the way up, and I’m not sure why that is. Other than that it’s a good kit.

You can not beat the price for this type of mesh kit. Just started drumming and this system seemed perfect for the situation! the mesh is very responsive and quite!! using with headphones and a basic PA system I found here as well! I differently recommend this system if your are just starting out due to the great practice patterns the system comes with!!

bought this for my son for his apartment and college dorm room. Can practice with headphones and not disturb anyone. Played through a pa system and this thing rocks! Has great acoustic drum sounds, we were both pretty impressed! He loves it! Very good quality!

Wow! Stock drum kits sound great. Very little tweaking needed and the tweaking is very easy. Simple set up/break down. Great sound and feel right of the box at $500! Less than 10 minutes. Highly recommend.
