Product Rating Product Review I have been using an Apogee Element for the past year but needed more inputs and outputs. After weighing out my options for adding ADAT expansion like the Presonus DP88 or Audient ASP 880, I opted for the Discrete 8 which I now use with the Element as an Aggregate device in OS X and everything is functioning and sounding great. I had read mixed reviews on Antelope products but was able to put most negative reviews in their proper context and did plenty of research and felt confident in my purchase. I qualified for the Premium FX package at the time of my purchase and have been extremely impressed with the EQs and compressors in particular. The Liverpool, Impresser, Gyratec, and Lang are my initial favorites. I like that there are some unique emulations and using built in FGPA means no taxing my computer's CPU. I've been enjoying printing tracks with FX when I record, it's more like using hardware and leads me to committing to sounds earlier in the recording process. As far as the hardware is concerned, the mic pre's on this interface sound awesome. I've got some decent outboard pre's (Phoenix Audio, Chandler, Aphex) that sound great, but if all I had was the Discrete 8 I have no doubt that I could make great recordings; plenty of gain, clean but still with some weight (similar to the underrated Aphex). The AD conversion is what really impresses me most. I recorded a song recently just using the Antelope pre's/converters and it's a noticeable difference from the Apogee. I like the Apogee but there's a bump in the low end which can make mixes become muddy unless EQ cuts are being made. The Antelope is definitely a cleaner conversion that stacks better across a mix and requires less EQing when mixing.. Also, I've been clocking the Apogee from the Antelope and it's tightened up the DA slightly which confirms the superior clocking of Antelope. The only negative I would say is the Launcher/Control Panel which can be a bit quirky at times losing connection with the interface (yet the interface is still connected to the DAW) but is easy to reset. One thing I noticed is disabling my WiFi and/or using my iPhone as a hotspot while recording seemed to prevent this and the latest firmware update has seemed to minimize this as well. Certainly not a dealbreaker for me and I did contact support early on and they were extremely helpful and responsive. All in all, a very impressive interface with a lot of features that sounds great. Consider me a fan and I don't think this will be my last Antelope purchase. As always props to AMS for the fast shipping and the industry's best payment plan options!

Product Review I was actually only looking for a professional modeling mic that can do high end mic modeling in realtime and and by doing research Antelope had what wanted and more. The Discrete 8 audio interface had a special bundle deal with the "Edge Solo" mic I wanted. I'm so happy I got this. So pleased with the sound of the mic and the modeling settings. Regarding this interface, men it sounds amazing, and it has 8 fully console grade mic preamps and super high end quality converters! It turn my home studio into a beast. It comes with the basic fx realtime great sounding vintage EQ's, Compressor, Guitar Amps plugins . I bought 8 months prior a fast Motu interface that I was very happy with and was not planning to buy a new interface, but the Edge Solo modeling mic combo with the Discrete 8 couldn't be beat. If you are looking for that console sound and great modeling mic options this is al you need.

Product Review Preamps and sound clarity are amazing, 5 stars for that. The authorization and control panel scheme is a bit quirky, but functional. The routing, once you wrap your head around it, is extremely flexible. One thing you have to realize is that the control panel is logging into the Discrete 8 over TCP/IP. That sounds weird, but you are making adjustments in the device itself, it's not just settings in an app. The last settings used remain on the device, including all of your routing, even if you turn off the computer and power off the device. For me, coming from Presonus Studio 192, this makes my life much easier, I can leave my furnace, er I mean workstation off and still play with my other gear thru the interface. ADAT, you can use all 16 channels even with the workstation off. You can control the device with the buttons up front, however it's limited. That said, all your mixer volume levels are stuck where you left them until you go back in on the computer. Should've had RJ45

Product Review after trying various interfaces over the last few years I think I've settled for the dynamic range and clarity of Antelope. I suggest trating a room and getting this interface before upgrading you monitors as this interface seemed to upgrade my monitors.
